Just wondering what nappies you have found to be the best?

I personally think that when the baby is newborn just go for cheap and cheerful. They have so many nappy changes that the quality is not so important.
I always used pampers when they were older but after having a grandchild in the past few years I genuinely think the supermarket alternatives are just as good.
I can remember buying really expensive eco friendly nappies for my youngest and he had the most horrendous nappy rash …23 years ago.

Blue2020 · 24/02/2025 19:48

It will vary, you will find some are better than others for your baby.

We started off with boots, then Mamia in the early days.

DS was a super soaker. We found the Mamia until about size 4 worked the best for us.

I even bought 25-30 totsbots to be reusable but timed it badly where he would leak a lot and need a change every 1-2hrs max. So I have stored the totsbots nappies in the hope maybe they can be used with the next baby.

When he moved to size 4 he had a period of leaking a lot regardless of brand. I think it timed with him crawling and being very active. Then we moved on to Tescos nappies for the duration of size 4-5 and they worked really well to stop the leaks.

Now he’s just moved on to pull ups/pants at 22 months to aim to transition him to potty training. So I have gone back to Mamia for these, found them the best so far at a reasonable cost.

@cheseandme That's what I've been thinking and the amount they go through each day.
Goodness that's not good is it? You'd think eco friendly nappies would be good and not cause nappy rash.

i used to say aldi but my baby woke up with a few wet sleepsuits so hmm.But had no issues with asda always been reliable and asda brand nappy cream good for prevention.Just a little dab each day and no rashes so far

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 19:53

@Blue2020 It's been 8 years since I've been looking at the different nappies. I used pampers and mamia nappies.
I've seen totsbots, that's good to know about Tesco nappies. I've looked at Morrisons brand today and Pura nappies.
I remember using mamia pull ups for our son and too found them really good and reasonable.

@rosydreams That's good to know about Asda nappies, there's so many to look at and good to know about their nappy cream. Been 8 years since I've looked at nappies. 🙂

Pampers for us. They fit my babies’ shape perfectly and meant we never had a leak or a poo explosion, and the stamp scheme was brilliant. What we spent in nappies we probably saved in washing and new clothes! And stress.

We also didn’t use nappy rash cream and never got any rashes.

WickWood · 24/02/2025 19:59

We use mamia and pampers, they've worked well for us, but interestingly as @Blue2020 found, now we're in size 4 I've noticed a few leaks. He's only 4 (almost 5) months so no crawling yet but there's been a few leaks when the nappy is hardly wet.

I was gifted some pura nappies and tried one then never again, I hated the feel of them and donated the rest. I think they are quite individual how they fit on your baby depending on their proportions!

DappledThings · 24/02/2025 20:00

Never found any difference between any of them. Always just bought the own brand of whatever supermarket I happened to be in. Got given a load of Pampers when a friend's baby moved up a size quicker than she expected and she passed them on to me. All the same.

Hall84 · 24/02/2025 20:02

Aldi when she was small but as she got bigger and more active the best for us were Rascal & Friends, you used to only get them at Tesco but might have changed now.

hereismydog · 24/02/2025 20:03

We use Aldi mainly, but we have used and liked the Morrisons ones too. Lidl nappies leaked through a couple of times so I wouldn’t use those again! Pampers were great when we picked some up whilst out as we’d forgotten to repack the changing bag before leaving the house, but too expensive to use as our regular brand while we’re still going through about 15 nappies a day 😂

SarahLHs · 24/02/2025 20:04

We've always used Asda's ones and found them great. The only bad ones we've used were Sainsbury's but that was 4 years ago so they could have improved.

stockpilingallthecheese · 24/02/2025 20:04

We always used Sainsbury's and still do, zero issues or leaks 2 years in

Futureyorkshirelass · 24/02/2025 20:07

Really does depend on baby! Baby number 1 we used reusables exclusively for ages and then switched to lidl ones at night time when baby started sleeping through and doing mega wees! Baby number 2 got horrendous nappy rash so I switched to kit and kin to ease my conscience, but there was so much conflicting information about whether they actually are more environmentally friendly so ended up just using the Lidl ones all the time. Might be some trial and error!

MegTheForgetfulCat · 24/02/2025 20:09

I think it must depend on individual babies' body proportions and, er, bodily functions, as we've never noticed much difference between different brands of disposable nappy. The ones with the pocket at the top that claims to stop them leaking out the top are useless - if it's going to leak out the top the pocket does nothing!

The best wipes though are washable terry cloth ones, sooo much better than disposables. I just bung them in a quick 15 minute cycle with some Dettol detergent as a prewash on their own to remove the solids and kill the bugs, and then wash as normal with the next load.

user593 · 24/02/2025 20:19

We used Kit & Kin for DC1 and then Naty pull ups when he was older. The Kit & Kin did leak from time to time but no nappy rash (although DC1 has very clear skin in general). For DC2 we’ve used Peachies, no leaks, no nappy rash (and DC2 would be more prone to it). I’ll switch to Naty pull ups again when he’s a bit older.

GloriousBlue · 24/02/2025 20:20

Tesco for us.
However DD started to wet through at about 9 months, so at night time we use Pampers pull ups

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:31

@MegTheForgetfulCat I've seen reusable wipes which would come in handy and save money.
Like you say even the nappies with the protective pocket at the back aren't going to stop an poo explosion.

tulipsunday · 24/02/2025 20:32

We like the pura ones no leaks

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:34

@GloriousBlue I remember we moved on to pampers pull ups and found them handy when our son got bigger.

@tulipsunday I was looking at Pura nappies and wipes today.

@user593 I've been looking at those brands today, it's been a while since I've looked at nappies and the different ones.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:39

@Futureyorkshirelass There's different ones to when I last looked at nappies 8 years ago and the differences between them. I like the idea of ones that help prevent nappy rash, keep wetness away if possible etc.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 24/02/2025 20:41

At the beginning we used aldi and pampers. As baby got older we found pampers were between the sizes of aldi nappies so when baby was starting to get too big for the aldi size down but too small for the next aldi size, the pampers of the smaller size would fit perfectly.

Once got longer stretches overnight without nappy changes we used pampers + absorbency ones. Aldi nappies are like £3.79 a pack, every so often pampers end up on offer for £4.50 a pack on offer so I'd stock up on pampers then and use the app to save the vouchers for money off the jumbo packs and get the + absorbency ones of those as they only did them in the jumbos for the pants.

We swapped from nappies to nappy pants around 7 months when baby learned to crawl. It was so much easier 😅

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:41

@stockpilingallthecheese That's good to know about Sainsbury's nappies 👍
