Started with Pura they were the only ones we could find that went small enough for our little one and then pampers as we'd got some freebies but they gave her hideous nappy rash and we're now team Lidl all the way never had a sniff of nappy rash or leaks at all!!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:43

@FlyingHighFlyingLow There's so many different ones to when I last looked at nappies 8 years ago. I've just downloaded the pampers app.
I remember moving onto the nappy pants and they did come in handy, especially to get on and off 😄

Unpopular opinion, but honestly reusable

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 20:45

@JollyHostess101 I've looked at Pura nappies today and their wipes. I know Lidl have got awards for their nappies which is good and it's good to know no nappy rash with them either 👍

@intrepidgiraffe I've been looking into resuable nappies and the different ones there are.

@MegTheForgetfulCat I've seen reusable wipes which would come in handy and save money.
Like you say even the nappies with the protective pocket at the back aren't going to stop an poo explosion.

I'd recommend them whichever type of nappies you use. You rarely need more than 2 or 3 to clean up even after a really messy nappy. We have a set of white ones for nappy changes and coloured ones that we use for faces and hands at mealtimes/out and about.

WorthySnail · 24/02/2025 20:56

Pampers. Haven’t had many leaks and fit well. Often on offer too!

intrepidgiraffe · 24/02/2025 20:57

It's not all or nothing with reusables - but I find them much more reliable for containing poo - have never had a blow out with them whereas when we've used disposable this has been a problem, especially in the early days.

They need changing more regularly ime for wees - but if you're changing every 3 hours anyway they're as reliable I find.

Recommend the nappy lady website for lots of guides etc on how they work.

Main benefit is I've saved a fortune financially - and I never have the issue of running out of nappies.

Cookiedough123 · 24/02/2025 20:57

At the beginning we mainly used pampers. As he started to get older I started to include mamia (Aldi) and pampers for bed time. He also started to leak at around 7/8 months so I use the pampers pull up premium protection nappies. I’ve found Asda/lidl nappies smell as soon as they have a wee. I haven’t tried any other nappies except them four!

Wipes I’ve tried sooo many. The best I’ve found are aqua wipes the brownish colour pack. They are really wet! My favourite though are the Tesco Fred and Flo wipes. They are wet and don’t get stuck when you pull them. If I can’t get to Tesco I manage with Aldi wipes. A lot of the others like the harmonie and Huggies wipes make my own face go red so don’t use them on baby. And the Asda ones get stuck together in a clump!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 22:22

@MegTheForgetfulCat that's a good idea, having separate ones for nappies and then faces and hands.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 24/02/2025 22:25

@Cookiedough123 I remember using the pampers pull up ones once our son got to the stage where he'd wriggle getting nappy changes and the pull up ones were easier to put on.
I like the Tesco wipes and used to use aldi ones as well.

@intrepidgiraffe I'll have a look at the website you recommended for the resuable nappies. Certainly sounds like they are good to use as well.

@WorthySnail I remember using pampers with my son. I've downloaded the pampers app too. I've seen them on offer a few times when I've been out and about.

@WickWood I remember using pampers and mamia nappies for my son, then using the pull up ones when he became more wriggly. There's so many different ones now isn't there.

ShyCrab · 25/02/2025 06:41

I’ve tried a few different ones and found the Lidl and Asda ones to be very good. I did try Sainsbury’s and Tesco but she used to leak a lot. Since she was about 7 months we’ve done pampers overnight and she has never leaked.

GJMJ · 25/02/2025 06:46

Hi, my daughter wears Aldi pull-ups during the day but pampers 6+ at night, never leaked x

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/02/2025 09:37

@ShyCrab That's good to know about Lidl and Aldi nappies. There's so many different ones now compared to when I last looked at nappies eight years ago with my son.

OP posts:
Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/02/2025 09:39

@GJMJ I remember using Aldi pull ups with my son when he started wriggling round and found them to be great and then pampers when those sizes became a bit tight.

I really rate Morrisons own nappies, only use them for my 1 year old son.

My daughter has very sensitive skin and reacted to Aldi, Sainsbury's and Asda. She was fine in Morrisons for up to 6 hours before chance of getting sore so used Pampers overnight, and still use the pull ups just on a night now.

Do you know what you're having? I have found with my little boy he's sized up much quicker despite being a lower centile/weight than my daughter, I think due to the space needed for his boy bits. So wouldn't over bulk buy each size if having another boy.

I'm so glad he's got less sensitive skin as Morrisons are much cheaper than Pampers! Also don't need to use Aveeno wash stuff and moisturiser for him either so that saves a bomb too. Basically if their skin is okay I wouldn't use Pampers just for the sake of it.
But if going for cheaper nappies then forking out loads on nappy creams and metanium, etc then might not make sense economically and another brand even Pampers might be more cost effective.

InTheWild · 25/02/2025 10:13

Honestly, I’ve found all the brands to be good. We used pampers on dc 1 when she was a baby, but we switched to supermarket brands 4/5 months later.

The only leakage we have ever had was a couple of times when the nappy hasn’t been on properly or they were slightly too big!

I use Aldi, Asda and the Morrisons own brand. All good, no issues with any, they do the same job imo. Like a pp said, we switched to nappy pants quite early on, when dcs started crawling (between 5/6 months old) I find them better.

remaininghopeful23 · 25/02/2025 11:38

Tesco Fred & Flo are the only ones that ever suited DS. Tried them all. Leaked constantly in aldi. Pampers never fit right. I wouldn't recommend stocking up, I did this on advice of friends that aldi were the best in the business, left with loads unused. I think people don't realise it's less to do with quality as they're all quite good, but a lot of it comes down to baby's shape for the fit so it's sometimes trial and error.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/02/2025 12:30

@Ihatewinding I'm having a boy, I've seen some nappies were they have a cut out for the umbilical cord.

OP posts:
Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/02/2025 12:32

@InTheWild I remember using pampers at first, then Aldi nappy pants when wriggling began. I've seen nappies where they have the cut out for the umbilical cord.

OP posts:
Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/02/2025 12:35

@remaininghopeful23 That's true, depends all on their size and shape. I did get a free pack of pampers in the Emma diary bag and was looking at a couple of different brands yesterday whilst out. Like you say it's good not to bulk buy as might end up with unused ones.

Pampers are without a doubt the best, but so so expensive. We use them at nighttime as they don't leak. We use a Sainsbury's nappy pants during the day as they are really good. Unfortunately not good enough for overnight in my experience but save us a fortune for during the day.
