Currently 32 weeks pregnant, curious when others stopped driving

Last drove at 41 weeks to my 'you're overdue' appointment. It all depends on how you feel.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 20/12/2024 14:59

The day before I had my son.

Do you have to?

No, there are no official guidelines. I'm just curious as to when others have stopped

I have a 5 point harness in my car, so I may have had to stop if my bump had been any bigger!

DreadPirateRobots · 20/12/2024 15:31

Why would you stop? I drove whenever I needed to, before and after.

Autumn1990 · 20/12/2024 15:33

When the contractions started

thesugarbumfairy · 20/12/2024 15:33

I didn't at any point stop driving

MightySnail · 20/12/2024 15:35

Once the contractions were too strong so driving would have been dangerous.

I don't think you'll find many people who stopped driving OP. It's pretty unusual to be so huge you can't get behind the wheel! Maybe twin mums?

glassof · 20/12/2024 15:41

I didn't! I drove home sat on a towel when my waters went in the school playground at pick up 🙈 that was embarrassing!

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 20/12/2024 15:50

My first labour started with a shocking gush of my waters breaking, and a sharp contraction immediately.

So with my second and third babies I minimised driving from a week before due date and avoided motorways altogether. I had the luxury of this not being too inconvenient though!

HocusFord · 20/12/2024 20:11

What are the reasons you think you will stop? I didn’t first time and don’t intend to this time either.

Just curious. My MIL said I should stop soon but friends have said they didn't stop until just before birth

I drove right up until the birth.
I stopped cycling at 39 weeks, if that helps?

Do whatever you're comfortable with!

Chocolaterocketcake · 21/12/2024 12:51

On the day I gave birth, I drove to park with DS, played in park for a couple of hours, drove to my mums to drop DS off and then drove to my midwife appointment (where I was unexpectedly induced due to pre-eclampsia). I was 41+3.

ShyTealBiscuit · 21/12/2024 12:58

I didn't technically stop driving. Once I started maternity leave a couple of weeks before due date (was a waitress and just couldn't take being on my feet all day at the end) I didn't really need to drive. I chose to walk where I needed to go or my husband drove. I had really big bumps and driving was uncomfortable. I still drove if I had to though but hardly at all in the last 2 weeks.

Wek · 21/12/2024 12:59

I didn’t… just pushed my chair further back

You don’t have to stop at all. If you reach a point where you feel uncomfortable or you’re physically prevented from it then you can stop then, but I wouldn’t plan to stop until you need to. Seems mad to plan for something that’s totally unnecessary for most pregnant women!

ARichtGoodDram · 21/12/2024 13:19

27 weeks with my first pregnancy. It was twins. Couldn’t push the seat back any further and it not be difficult with pedals and control.

Then for the next two pregnancies (singletons) it was 35 and 34 weeks, for the same reasons.

my last I had to stop at 24 weeks as I was getting randomly timed seriously intense pains (like sudden doubled over in agony pains) and it wasn’t safe to be driving if that happened.

SJM1988 · 21/12/2024 13:20

I didnt stop. I unknownly drove in early labour as I thought it was just bad braxton hicks! Had my DS 6 hours later

LoveSandbanks · 21/12/2024 13:22

I drove while in early labour, then drove to drop son2 off, then drove myself home. Got home about 12:15pm ds3 was born around 4pm.

Why would you stop driving?

SauvignonBlanche · 21/12/2024 13:23

I drove when the contractions were still mild, would have stopped if they’d been any stronger.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 21/12/2024 13:24

I'm very short - had to stop at around 38 weeks because I had to put my seat so far back to accommodate my bump that I couldn't get the clutch all the way down.

tb4122 · 21/12/2024 13:25

I drove myself to and from hospital to get checked out when my waters broke but labour hadn't started. It never occurred to me that I had to stop.

Criteria16 · 21/12/2024 13:25

I drove myself to the hospital, alone, for a c-section of twins. I drove again from about a week after, as nobody told me I couldn't and when I found out I was already 6 weeks past c-section!!!

Zonder · 21/12/2024 13:27

When I gave birth for about 4 weeks.
