Slipped down some stairs, am I screwed? 11 weeks

I'm a bit shaken up, I've just slipped a few steps and landed smack on my bum. My arse hurts but I just can't believe how stupid it is.

I'm only 11 weeks tomorrow...is this it now? Should I just brace for bleeding? 😔 Should I bother the midwife with this?

No, your baby is still absolutely tiny and well protected by your body. Considering you didn't even land on your bump I think you'll be fine.

KenIsAnAccessory · 02/12/2024 11:56

Most likely everything will be fine. Baby is tucked in your pelvis and very well protected at this stage, and your placenta is only just staying to take over. Try not to worry. Hope you're not too bruised!

DreadPirateRobots · 02/12/2024 11:57

Of course not. How would the human race ever have reproduced if a small fall that didn't even injure you could end a pregnancy? A healthy pregnancy cannot be "shaken loose" or damaged in any way from routine activity, including falling over. The only things that can dislodge a healthy, developing pregnancy are surgery or powerful drugs.

Your pregnancy will not suffer the slightest.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/12/2024 11:58

I tripped over a kerb at 16 weeks with DTs. Went down flat on my belly. Randomly an ambulance passed at the same time and they stopped. They reassured me all would be fine and it was. Hope you don't hurt too much.

SometimesCalmPerson · 02/12/2024 12:02

Your baby is still very well cushioned and protected, you will be fine. If you want reassurance though, speak to your midwife.

MabelMaybe · 02/12/2024 12:03

I slid over on ice at a similar point. The foetus is now 15 and was just fine.

Adamsapple89 · 02/12/2024 12:04

You feel on your arse why would you be writing off your pregnancy and cancelling midwife apps ? Relax you’re fine

GalacticTowelMaster · 02/12/2024 12:13

I did exactly this, so hard I had a dark black bruise on my bum where I landed. Baby was absolutely fine, I did phone the midwife at the time and she wasn't concerned. Said baby well cushioned in there. (Ds now 9 btw!)

OptimisticRealist2024 · 02/12/2024 12:30

Thanks everyone - my first pregnancy ended in a MMC and I'm a bit of a worrier with this second one. I just feel like a real prat and I think I was a bit overcome, I'm very emotional at the moment and don't have anyone I can really ask for reassurance.

Hi lovely, I was exactly the same as you. Had a MMC and then in the following pregnancy slid down the stairs at 16 weeks pregnant on Christmas Day.... that pretty much ruined the day for me! I was constantly thinking that I'd ruined it all. That baby is now 2 and currently trying to dive down an indoor slide head first 🤦🏼‍♀️. Try not to panic too much, I know easier said than done 🧡

jaffacake25 · 02/12/2024 14:11

I had similar but at 5 ish weeks pregnant, all okay although I was very bruised and in a lot of pain for weeks after, I'd get yourself checked over, and maybe just for your peace of mind I'd speak to the midwife / doctor but I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine congratulations xxx

GridlockonMain · 02/12/2024 14:20

Please don’t worry - your baby is so well protected in there, this won’t have done damage.

I had a slip in my kitchen at 10 weeks and landed on my belly and my midwife was totally unfazed when I called her. The only thing she asked is my blood type because there can be some (treatable) complication arising if your blood type is negative and your baby’s positive or something like that - you might need an anti-D injection or something? As you can tell I can’t remember exactly the details so I would call your midwife just to check what she says, but honestly this isn’t something to worry about as far as your baby is concerned.

Do look after yourself though - you will likely be a bit sore and shaken up. Take it easy and let yourself rest ❤️

Chypre · 02/12/2024 15:20

Nah, I've landed on my tailbone badly while rushing to 12 week scan. Scan was fine, baby is still fine, tailbone on the other hand - still sore weeks later.

sel2223 · 02/12/2024 15:29

No, that's not it OP. As others have said, your baby is very well protected in there.

In my first pregnancy I fell down the stairs at 13 weeks, the night before flying and I badly bruised my coccyx - that was an awful flight for me but baby was fine, she's now 4.

This pregnancy I've had low BP and lots of issues with dizziness and feeling faint. I've fallen a couple of times and did actually pass out on one occasion around 18 weeks Baby is fine.

PainterInPeril · 02/12/2024 15:36

My mother fell whilst pregnant with my sister (and like you, she had suffered a miscarriage before). My sister is 42 and fine.
Said sister (again, like you) slipped down the stairs whilst pregnant but my niece is now 18 and fine. Although, my sister still trouble with her coccyx.
Please don't worry, easier said than done I know! I hope you have a good pregnancy and a healthy little one at the end of it. 🤗💐

CrispAppleStrudels · 02/12/2024 15:38

I did that at 16w with DD2 and she's now a healthy 8month old. I didn't even need to have the anti-D. But as pp have said, it's worth phoning and checking if you are RH Neg just in case, as I'm not sure at what point you have to start thinking about that.

OptimisticRealist2024 · 02/12/2024 15:47

Thanks all, feel much better having read that many babies survived (@cornishgirlatheart did it accidentally lead to an adrenaline junkie baby?! 😂)

@CrispAppleStrudels have just dug out my ancient blood donor card and I'm ORh+ so hopefully nothing I need to think about?

Feeling very silly now, but reassured. Thanks everyone ❤️ Don't think my arse will let me forget this anytime soon though, corker of a bruise! 😑

No you will be fine!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/12/2024 16:52

I fell down a sodding hill when I was heavily pregnant and limped sobbing into a hospital at the bottom. Everything was fine and he is now an adult. With a normal shaped head, too!

Yes, total adrenaline junkie. She has second child energy 😅🤣

Coco9910 · 02/12/2024 17:50

I fully sell down the stairs at about 8 / 9 weeks pregnant and everything was fine. They are so small and cushioned at 11 weeks. You will probably just have a sore bum! Hope you’re okay!

user2848502016 · 02/12/2024 21:20

More than likely you'll be absolutely fine. At 11 weeks your baby is still tiny and your uterus is still inside your pelvic cavity so well protected.
I fell on my bum in snow when i was about 24 weeks and was completely fine

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 02/12/2024 21:28

I fell off a kerb and Landed right on my bump at around 30 weeks. I was terrified. My good friend was pregnant at the same time and suffered a loss so I automatically thought the worst. Your emotions are heightened and you are worried due to your loss and that is 100% understandable. I did go for a checkup as I convinced myself there would be an issue but like everyone has said, the midwife told me that babies are very well protected in there. My baby was fine and is almost 10 now. My mum fell down an escalator when she was approx 4 months pregnant with my sister. Passed out and down she went. Luckily we were meeting my grand parents so they minded us while she was taken for a checkup. My sister is almost 40 now. Try not to worry, your little peanut should be just fine x

Blue2020 · 02/12/2024 21:47

I did this a few weeks ago at 16 weeks pregnant, I also worried for a while too. I have since felt some movements from 18-20weeks. I have the 20 week scan on Wednesday so hoping it’s all ok.

I slipped down the last 4-5 stairs due to my footing. Hit my bum on the final stair which is concrete. It hurt for a while and the next day too.

Do you have a scan coming up at 12 weeks? Can help to reassure you?

Fingers crossed for your scan today! I felt so much better after reading the posts I've told myself there's no point worrying. 😊 No bleeding, still quite a painful bruise but I'll take that over worst case scenario! My scan is in 2 weeks so just needed to get it out of my brain, I think -- DH and I decided not to get any private scans this time because the scanxiety is just worse for me.

(Needless to say I'm now chastened by the stairs and now descend them at a glacial pace so as not to anger the gravity gods!)
