Did anyone else get pregnant with withdrawal method?

It feels impossible although I suppose it's not. DH and I used withdrawal but I'm talking minutes before ejaculation, not just before. It seems so unlikely that it's happened but I'm pregnant. Did anyone else get pregnant this way?

Sperm is prsent in pre-cum, those little droplets that are in the tip well before ejaculation. So yes, it is very likely. Withdrawal is really only a method of contraception you use if you want to get pregnant.

I wish you well for whatever you decide from here.

CurlewKate · 02/11/2024 08:33

Yes, it it possible.

Are you in time for the MAP?

ethelredonagoodday · 02/11/2024 08:34

It's definitely possible. Many years ago I got a severe telling off from a doctor for using this method. And the silly thing is, I knew it wasn't reliable!

Changingplace · 02/11/2024 08:37

It’s not a method of contraception, yes you can definitely get pregnant this way and many people do. Do you want to be pregnant? If not, arrange contraceptives before having sex again.

Can you get the MAP if you’re in time right now?

Boobygravy · 02/11/2024 08:37

My dm, six times!

Good Catholic and all that.

Withdrawal method is not contraception. It’s Russian roulette. Eventually the loaded gun will go off.

pumpkinpice · 02/11/2024 08:38

@CurlewKate no, I'm about 10 weeks, but it just seems surreal because it was minutes before ejaculation and I didn't think it was possible due to this.

@Changingplace no, I'm roughly 10 weeks but it feels impossible and that it can't actually be true.

Kindly, did you never have any sex education? It’s not a form of contraception, why did you think it was? Did your partner think the same?

Are you happy to be pregnant now it’s happened? How does your husband feel?

FloofPaws · 02/11/2024 08:40

Yes, sorry but withdrawal really isnt contraception

If you’re happy to continue the pregnancy all good.
If not please rethink your contraception.

Coconutter24 · 02/11/2024 08:42

Withdrawal method should only be used if you’re not bothered if you end up pregnant, it’s 80% effective so if you’re adamant a pregnancy isn’t wanted it’s not the correct contraception.

taggy321 · 02/11/2024 08:42

To be fair that is pretty unlucky if it was minutes before.
Hope you're ok!

HoppingPavlova · 02/11/2024 08:45

Sex Ed. Sex Ed. It should have covered this.

pumpkinpice · 02/11/2024 08:45

I would understand if it was just before but minutes just feels like it's crazy. I'm fine, shocked but fine.

No, I didn’t. I just got pregnant while using condoms, the pill and a coil (different pregnancies)
Respectfully, the question now, is not “how the heck did that happen”, it’s “what should I do next”. You need to decide whether you WANT to have a baby, and that’s a huge decision that you need to make very quickly. Do you have a supportive partner? Have you told him that you are pregnant? You have options, at this point in time, which range from a termination, to adoption, to keeping the baby and going it alone/ co-parenting, to keeping the baby as a couple. I hope you have some support to help you make the right decision for you.

pumpkinpice · 02/11/2024 08:46

@Changingplace not really, we didn't do contraception at school (very Catholic) and I thought that minutes before ejaculation would be safe and didn't think anything of it until my periods stopped.

Sailawaygirl · 02/11/2024 08:49

I think it depends on the guy! As pp said above sometimes seamen is present in pre ejaculate fluid. I've used withdrawal for 10 yrs plus knowing we would be ok with a 'happy accident but we had to properly 'try' for a baby when we wanted to start family properly!

No form of contraception is 100% reliable. Just some are better then others

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 02/11/2024 08:51

As the old saying goes:

what do they call people who use the withdrawal method?
parents.

OchAyeTheN00 · 02/11/2024 09:18

My 9yo is walking proof that it is not to be used as contraception.

Not all men have sperm in the pre-cum

Maybe not, but you’d never know unless you risked it, so it’s a bit of a pointless thing really.

BlackOrangeFrog · 02/11/2024 09:34

Wow, you had unprotected sex and got pregnant... shocker.

Not all men have sperm in the pre-cum

I'm sure I read that a percentage of men have sperm in their pre-cum but as pp said you wouldn't know if your partner was one of them until the withdrawal method didn't work 😬. Fwiw we used withdrawal method between DC and I didn't get pregnant. First time there wasn't withdrawal I did though!

lollydu · 02/11/2024 10:00

Haha yes! It took about 18 months but I was using natural cycles and not even having sex on red days and I still got pregnant. It's definitely not something I would recommend if a baby would be the end of the world for you. We were going to start trying in the next 6 months to a year anyway so no harm done for us. Definitely not a good reliable form of contraception, we did literally EVERYTHING by the book, we wouldn't even be intimate on red days and pull out every time. My daughter is 5 now and I have a coil in!

Ruffpuff · 02/11/2024 10:02

Got pregnant as the condom slipped off half way through, though, ahem, it was the second round in a short space of time. I didn’t take MAP as I thought it would be fine as there was no finishing.

I’m 7 weeks pregnant now. Luckily we’d decided that we were going to start trying in about 10 months or so…it’s just come early for us!
