msdynamo try Bio Oil. It's fab!!!

msdynamo · 05/05/2008 08:53

Thanks johnworf I'll give it a go. Off for a few days down to Somerset for a bit of pampering. See you all when I get back.

sophiesmiles · 05/05/2008 11:10

Hi oldtimerfulltimer, any chance of having your email address?

jeanjeannie · 05/05/2008 12:30

fruitbowl.....wot, no parachuting....?! good lord have you no sense of adventure! Seriously - Good luck for weds...scan AND birthday. I LOVED turning 40 - I'd just met dp the month before....and i'm only 2.5 years into 4th decade and having a ball SOOOO much better than my 30s, which were very disappointing! Well done hedgepig for rounding up 40 somethings lost on slow-moving threads!

sharbee am liking the sound of you hubbie very much

Now a beauty journalist mate of mine tells be bio oil is good for stretch marks - and better still is Argan Oil. Apparently you can cook with it but also great for beauty purposes. Maybe worth a try - she's a hot-shot in the world of beauty...so i'm assuming she knows what she's talking about!!!

Been to B&Q...bank holiday nightmare

mrsjupiter · 05/05/2008 12:32

msdynamo I've also heard bio oil is good and it smells lovely (I use it fairly regularly as I have scarily dry skin in places), but not sure if it's supposed to work as a preventive measure or if it helps once you've got the scars. I did read an article recently (Q&A with a dermatologist) that said it's not possible to prevent stretch marks. Having said that, I'm still rubbing it on my belly now just in case!

The almond oil from L'Occitane also claims to help with stretch marks.

I have a thyroidectomy scar and was recommended to break vitamin E capsules into cream and rub it into the scar, I did it and I have to say it's in pretty good shape. The capsules have a liquid inside them and I just used to cut the capsules and then mix the liquid into my favourite cream with a chopstick.

I have subsequently had confirmation of the Vitamin E thing from a VERY reliable source. During my bed rest I watched four series (yes four) of Nip/Tuck. It's a seriously twisted series, but the doctors kept mentioning rubbing vitamin E into scars - what greater validation do you need!

johnworf · 05/05/2008 13:59

I'm not sure that anything really prevents stretch marks as the dermis that breaks down is layers and layers deep beneath the surface. I think if you're gonna get them, then you will (ask your mother if she got them, they do say it's genetic).

I think that treatments such as Vitamin E and Bio Oil etc are great once you already have them (make them fade) but other than that, keep your fingers crossed you're not one of us unlucky gals who get them

jeanjeannie · 05/05/2008 14:15

I reckon you're right...it's a question of luck. I've put nothing on my bump except a bit of moisturiser after a bath and not a sign of any marks at 35 weeks. But my mother....she's covered in them. If only I was so lucky in avoiding cellulite...gggrrrr

johnworf · 05/05/2008 14:20

Yeah jeanjeannie I put alsorts on mine years ago and I still look like I'm wearing corduroy knickers !!!

johnworf · 06/05/2008 06:57

Well ladies, it's scan day for me today. Mixed thoughts and a little apprehension. It's not until this afternoon so will try not to think about it until then.

At least I'll be able to post what flavour it is

jeanjeannie · 06/05/2008 08:43

Hi johnworf - will think of you I'm sure all will be fine....but I think we all understand that feeling of apprehension. Keep us posted...and let us know the flavour!

jeanjeannie · 06/05/2008 08:46

didoreth.......any news yet? Sorry if there's not and you're sick to the back teeth of being asked in real life

pwcbird · 06/05/2008 08:54

Good Luck johnworf... will be thinking of you and waiting to hear.

Just as an aside - isn't it lovely when the sun shines?

mrsjupiter · 06/05/2008 09:12

I'll keep my legs crossed for you johnworf. Look forward to hearing good news.

Babycakes had to look up spd as had never heard of it - that does not sound like fun! Really impressed that you're able to work. I'm finding all this resting exhausting - no joke. I feel tired all the time and can't seem to concentrate. I'm doing a diploma in executive coaching that I have a lot of reading for and I can't put my mind to it.

Takenoprisoners · 06/05/2008 09:23

Good luck Johnworf - all the best for this afternoon and look forward to hearing from you later, TNPx

Thanks ladies for your best wishes. My spot is 3.15 with clinic afterwards so will post after tea.

On a different note, I've put all my washing out on the line now sunshine is here. How marvellous! Not sure if once again it's an age thing, but watching your whites flapping on the line (better with lovely white nappies or babygroes) gives me such a lovely feeling.

A bit like smelling a newly bathed babies hair....

pwcbird · 06/05/2008 10:15

Yes Yes! I have my sheets on the line as we speak. It is an age thing I'm sure as the girl next door (young mum not fab 40+ mums like us!) says 'oh I just put it all in the tumble'. But why - when it's sunny like this? My sheets will be fresh and glorious. And yes again to baby things. I did a white wash yesterday with all DS's little vests and my heart sang. Is that a bit sad??

jeanjeannie · 06/05/2008 10:31

SNAP! My whites are flapping in the breeze and little Miss dds vests look soooo cute! Got into bed last night and the bed sheets just smelt gorgeous after an afternoon in the sun. Yeah, it's probably an age thing.

On another note....dd has just discovered the joys of a beaten up , 2nd hand little tikes red and yellow car.......she's in love Watch out Lewis Hamilton..!!

Takenoprisoners · 06/05/2008 10:52

Ditto me - am about to hang out first load of the day. These youngsters and their tumble dryers - what is the world coming to!! I only ever use mine when I have to - they're so bleedin' expensive to run!

My DS2 has one of those little car, Jeanjeannie - it's 3rd hand now and ancient and still going strong & he LOVES it!

OP posts:
johnworf · 06/05/2008 12:25

Ah yes, I remember the lovely orange and yellow car (think it was officially 'the cosy coupe') that mine had. Seem to remember all three in it like the keystone cops.

Happy days!

OOh yes, lovely smell of sheets off the line

pwcbird · 06/05/2008 12:53

Just wanted to let you know that I have painted my toenails. The sun is out, the day is glorious. The flip flops have been found from the back of the wardrobe and I have painted my toenails.

jeanjeannie · 06/05/2008 13:05

pwcbird........you've painted your toenails!!! I'm sooo jealous...I've not seen mine for WEEKS Have told DP that he's going to have to take a crash course in beauty treatments before c-section...that's toes AND de-hairing...I'm not going through that dry pre- c-sction razor treatment again!!!

takenoprisoners I know..£££££ tumble dryers cost HOW MUCH??!!! Yep - my line is full to bursting! And with re-usables nappies as well....WHAH

mrsjupiter · 06/05/2008 13:35

I have a number of American friends where I live. They would all be horrified at the washing on the line conversation. At home they live in neighbourhoods where they have to sign a paper agreeing they won't hang out washing, paint their front door an unapproved colour and other things I can't remember.

It's flip flop weather pretty much nine months of the year here and (now don't scratch my eyes out) I can get a really good manicure and pedicure for a fiver. Prior to taking up sofa residence I used to go a couple of times a month. Makes a change from my London days when I got a pedicure in the summer and a manicure at Christmas!

For obvious reasons I've only been able to go once this year so far, so have had the nail painting conversation with my husband. He's quite willing in a mischievous way, but I do remember he did it for me once before and I had to remind him it wasn't Dulux.

jeanjeannie · 06/05/2008 13:55

mrsjupiter...you fascinate me....where in the world ARE you???!!! Forgive me if you've already said....and I'll blame baby-brain.

mrsjupiter · 06/05/2008 14:27

LOL jeanjeannie! Am I supposed to say? Don't want to break any rules of engagement. As I'm new to this I'll be guided by other more experienced users. Am happy to spill the beans if told it's ok.

Takenoprisoners · 06/05/2008 14:33

Tell us if you want to, MrsJ! I have an American friend who has a similar attitude to the washing - it is simply not allowed out on the line (even though her 'back yard' is completely hidden from view and backs onto forest) and whose husband forbids it as a sign of being really 'low class' . She is in upstate New York - are you???
