Eeek I’m 42 and there seems to be an unplanned second baby on the way

Just reaching out for some human contact here as not ready to tell anyone in real life yet!

DS is 16 months. I had him naturally after being declared unable to have kids by three different doctors! So I haven’t really been worried about being slightly hit and miss with the pill - you can’t win the lottery twice right??

But after a few months without periods (normal for me) something made me buy a pregnancy test. Which I did this morning.

And It’s positive. I managed to get an appointment for an ultrasound this afternoon ( living abroad so don’t have the NHS hoops and delays thank goodness).

But now I’m terrified. Life is already hard. I work full time from home so start my work day at 4am so that I get plenty of time with miracle baby #1.

How could it work? Where is new baby supposed to sleep? I won’t have enough hands. Or hours. I don’t want to neglect DS1.

And I’m old!!! I’m 42!!!

Eeek.

I was 43 when I had my second (had first at 40) it’s so hard but also the best thing I have ever done.

nearlyautumntime · 20/08/2024 06:58

Sorry, forgot to say congratulations!

llamalines · 20/08/2024 07:03

Congratulations!

Can new baby sleep in with you?

We had a 3 sided cot which attached to the bed, it was great.

Twinklefloss · 20/08/2024 07:12

Do you live with the father of the baby? From what you’ve described it sounds like you’re single which would be challenging!

Twinklefloss · 20/08/2024 07:13

And also congratulations on another miracle baby!

TokyoSushi · 20/08/2024 07:15

Congratulations! You're going to be just fine.

I already feel exactly like that - I can’t imagine what having two feet’s like!!! I’ll be the walking dead!

thank you for sharing your experience!

counting the minutes until the scan this afternoon!

Yeah I’m with the father of both… he’ll go bonkers 😂😂. I have his support for everything else in life so I guess we’ll figure it out!!

Zonder · 20/08/2024 07:23

Congratulations!

All the best for the scan.

Two is definitely harder work but so worth it! My two have been great pals all their lives and in many ways having two made life easier as they did entertain each other a lot. They still do actually, and they're 16 and 18 now.

hotpotlover · 20/08/2024 07:27

Awww, how wonderful xx Massive congratulations

I'm 37 and have 3 kids (4 years, 2 1/2 and 8 months). I'm feeling broody and considering trying for a 4th next year 😂

Raininginparadise2 · 20/08/2024 07:27

Congratulations OP. One of life's pleasant surprises! Best wishes x

RedRobyn2021 · 20/08/2024 07:27

Congratulations this is amazing ♥️

I'm pregnant with my second, I'm a bit younger and it was planned but I have the same worries! So I think it's fairly normal

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 20/08/2024 07:54

What lovely news. Having a second baby won't mean your first child is neglected with your time. They might miss out if you had another 10 children, but 1 more will be fine.

itzthTtimeGib · 20/08/2024 07:56

Congratulations!

On the WFH-feasibility thing, why wouldn’t you use childcare?

Thank you and wishing you the very best if you go for number 4. You’re braver than me but clearly a tougher cookie too!!!

Two cots and you will manage.
Ikea is your friend, with its inexpensive children’s range, they are great value for money.
😊

Thank you!

I do use child care! But I try to do the minimum needed so that I can run my business. I’m lucky I have the choice to choose my hours which allows me to have time with little one every day.

Last time I was able to work (literally) until I went into labour.. then had two weeks off. Then was part time for three months… but that was because I had an easy pregnancy and easy baby. No guarantees for this time!!

Congratulations! You'll make it work 🥰 just like I'm sure when you were pregnant the first time you think 'how will I get this done when I have a baby here' 'what am I going to do when they reduce their naps down?' ...but you do, you just work around them and find a new way to make things work! :)

Same here. First the week I turned 41, second at 43. Now I am 60 and really enjoying this stage of parenting .

I'm 44 with a nearly three year old and found myself in similar circumstances (although my first child is a lot older). It's tough, I am very tired and feel like I've aged 10 years in the last three 😂 wouldn't change it though, she's a little ray of sunshine 😍

You can do it! Older mums rock! We are wise and calm and stubborn 😬

Haaboo · 20/08/2024 08:12

Thank you all for such a positive reaction. I’m going to go to work and try and think about something other than the scan that’s in 5 hours, 39 minutes and 20, 19, 18 seconds
😝😝🤭

You’re all fabulous 🥰🥰🥰🥰💖💖💖💖💖
