Just reaching out for some human contact here as not ready to tell anyone in real life yet!

DS is 16 months. I had him naturally after being declared unable to have kids by three different doctors! So I haven’t really been worried about being slightly hit and miss with the pill - you can’t win the lottery twice right??

But after a few months without periods (normal for me) something made me buy a pregnancy test. Which I did this morning.

And It’s positive. I managed to get an appointment for an ultrasound this afternoon ( living abroad so don’t have the NHS hoops and delays thank goodness).

But now I’m terrified. Life is already hard. I work full time from home so start my work day at 4am so that I get plenty of time with miracle baby #1.

How could it work? Where is new baby supposed to sleep? I won’t have enough hands. Or hours. I don’t want to neglect DS1.

And I’m old!!! I’m 42!!!

Eeek.

Youre the same age as me and I’d be delighted with a surprise like that! Although saying that I would probably be panicking if it was.

good luck with the scan

DifficultBloodyWoman · 20/08/2024 08:25

Congratulations! I’m in the same boat but I am <gulp> 45!

I went to see my GP about menopause symptoms and she referred me for an ultrasound. The sonographer clarified why I was there (menopause and fibroids) and then said she could see a gestational sac!

Like you, I already won the lottery - one DC who arrived after many losses. So I am not really holding my breath and kind of expecting a miscarriage at my next scan.

But wow! Congrats again, OP.

ShoehornSheryl · 20/08/2024 08:28

Ah congratulations x

safetyfreak · 20/08/2024 08:29

Congrats!

To be honest, it would be my worst nightmare but at 42 I will have a 20 year old and 10 year old. You already have a young child, so it makes sense to have another one close in age.

SquigglePigs · 20/08/2024 08:42

Best of luck and good wishes for your scan this afternoon OP. You have a supportive partner and sound excited so I'm sure you will be absolutely fine with a second!

DodoTired · 20/08/2024 08:44

Congratulations! I had my second when I was 42 :) eldest was 3.5

I found it easier to go from 1 to 2 than from 0 to 1, and less expensive as there are already things that you own. Except childcare 😩 but maybe you qualify for the 15 hours etc

good thing about 2 kids is that they will be able to entertain each other and play together

LoveHearts69 · 20/08/2024 08:49

I’m still in my (late) 30’s but I have the same age gap as you would have. It’s tiring but also so so rewarding. My youngest is 10 months now and they crawl around together giggling and have started playing together. In the car they pull faces at each other to make each other laugh and it’s really adorable. I co sleep with the little one and we plan to just move them into their siblings room once they’re about 1 as they’re the same gender and already bonded so well.

It is hard to start with and to juggle the attention with two but toddlers are adaptable and the really difficult newborn stage seems to go SO MUCH quicker the second time round, it’s crazy!

Also just think about future holidays, they’ll have a sibling to entertain them in the future while you can chill out! 😉 Good luck!

Cocothecoconut · 20/08/2024 09:04

Congratulations
i know someone who had a ( menopausal) no7 at your age

sel2223 · 20/08/2024 09:05

Congratulations OP, I could almost have written this post myself!

I recently found out I am pregnant with my second which was a complete surprise (our daughter is 4 and we had accepted it wasn't going to happen again for us as not even a sniff of a BFP in those 4 years). I am 41 now but will be 42 wheen I give birth (all going well).

We also live abroad, we run our own very busy business and I have absolutely no idea how we are going to do this but we're excited and I know we'll figure it out!

I've got an early scan tomorrow when I should be just over 8 weeks. Feeling a lot more anxious this time round and the nausea and tiredness has been worse. How are you feeling?

Congratulations to you too!!!!

Im feeling entirely not pregnant at the moment. But honestly I didn’t feel it last time until the fifth or sixth month when I started showing… it’s just the fear that’s got me this morning!!

wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!!!

I had my second at 43 and my first at 41. Youngest is off to Uni this year 😊

SpringKitten · 20/08/2024 09:43

I had my second age 43 - it has been a beautiful experience. Much easier pregnancy than my first, easier labour, established breastfeeding like a pro. My dc2 is now at school and I count my blessings every day. He is a very active child and has reintroduced me to cycling and hiking and Lego and I am a fitter happier mum because he’s in my life.

But yes - not gonna lie to you, it’s hard work and I know I have to stay fit so i can keep up with him.

Though having two kids makes parenting easier in many ways as you don’t have to provide all the entertainment yourself

good luck with the scan and give yourself time to adjust to the idea.

LumpyandBumps · 20/08/2024 13:23

I had my children aged 41 and 43. I actually had more energy during my pregnancies than many younger colleagues.
I also remember the midwife who called when I was dancing around the kitchen with my 21 month old and my second child over my shoulder saying something along the lines of ‘you are the same age as me, how can you be so lively’
Mine or now in their twenties. You can do this!

Haaboo · 20/08/2024 16:16

Thank you again everyone for your kind words and positive experiences. This morning I was utterly panic stricken. Now I’m a bit more “ahhhh” than “eek”.

scan done now. It’s very early so there’s a bit of wait and see to do now…

Wishing all of you and your families the very best, especially those lovely ladies who are currently pregnant! May your pregnancies be easy and your babies be superstars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much. And don’t worry I’m only human. My favourite thing in the world is to nap in the afternoon once job is done and baby napping!!

(New eek moment- I’ll have to stop calling DS1 the baby !!!!) 😂
