Im here at almost 8 weeks at 8am rudely woken up by my cats and I’m trying to eat a banana yet every single time I swallow it I feel like I need to vomit effectively immediately. Do I vomit and have I vomited yet? No not at all. While I’m scared of vomiting being sick is so much better than this nausea feeling. I’m confused on why people want to go through this so much.

OP posts:

I dont think people want to go through the nausea and other symptoms, but unfortunately to get through to the other side where you have a baby it's something that people (on the most part) endure as best they can whilst also getting as much help as they can to cope with it. I don't think it's that people don't talk about it, probably just that we're not so tuned in to people talking about it until we're experiencing it ourselves.

Sorry you're feeling so rubbish, I've had constant nausea as well and it's so miserable. Hopefully it won't last too long.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/08/2024 08:51

Yes the nausea, activated by sometimes just the thought of cooking smells.
i wasn’t expecting the farting too.

Mrsttcno1 · 18/08/2024 08:56

The sickness was probably the worst for me, especially in the first trimester. Any strong smell used to trigger mine even our reed diffusers and fabric softener etc so we had to basically starve the house of any smells for 10 weeks😂 worth it now though to have a lovely healthy baby!

Also the just spontaneously wetting myself in the last half of the third trimester was a treat🤣

delilabell · 18/08/2024 08:59

Constipation in the first trimester. Awful 😖.

I hope the nausea passes soon for you.

MigGril · 18/08/2024 09:01

Stop eating banana, eat ginger biscuits. With proper ginger in them, much better for nausea and also peppermint tea.

I felt sick from morning till night for 28 bloody weeks. Who said it was just the first trimester lied.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/08/2024 09:03

The nausea combined with the acute sense of smell. A friend described it as being Like a poisoned dog 🤣

User236792 · 18/08/2024 09:04

My last “morning” [haha] sickness vomit was on the day I gave birth. So, yeah, it’s a bit shit. There’s meds which help a bit if it gets too bad.

Happiestwhen · 18/08/2024 09:05

Omg all the smells got to me so bad. I couldn't stand the smell of dry laundry (weirdly I was ok with wet laundry) so I couldn't go through and sort it. It made me wretch so badly. We had laundry everywhere until dh finally gave in and started doing it. All I could smell from restaurants and pubs was a greasy stench. With my first I was sick morning noon and night. It's tough going. Solidarity to all those in that stage.

bubbletubble · 18/08/2024 09:09

Heartburn so bad that I threw up even if I drank a sip of water (thank god I was prescribed omeprazole)! But the absolute worst was pregnancy insomnia. Literally slept in 20 minute stints from about 4 months, averaging about 3 hours actual sleep a night. It was really awful when people used to say to me wait till the baby is here then you'll know what tired is but I don't think people realised how little sleep I was getting. I was a walking zombie for months.

I was thankfully blessed with a very chilled baby who was an amazing sleeper so I was less knackered when I had a newborn then when I was pregnant!

LuxeBiscuit · 18/08/2024 09:12

Sorry the nausea has hit you OP - I was vomiting daily for weeks.

But I do think these things are talked about. There must be thousands of posts on Mumsnet about first trimester morning sickness, fatigue etc.

Travel bands on my wrist helped with the motion sickness feeling and ginger tea was also helpful.

User7567 · 18/08/2024 09:14

I’m unsure whether first trimester sickness or third trimester acid reflux is worse. I was prepared for the first, but no one warned me about the latter.

Morporkia · 18/08/2024 09:30

I had morning, afternoon, evening and wake me up in the middle of the night sickness with both my pregnancies. Worse with my first. I'd be driving and have to pull over to be sick. Luckily my DB was an airline steward and got me a megapack of sickbags, so I didn't have to spew out of my car. Then the heartburn (I carried around a mega bottle of gaviscon everywhere i went) then when my milk came in, the titpain..oh my God! I couldn't bear the air around me being moved, cabbage leaves worked for about 30 seconds, until my milk soaked and heated the leaves, at which point I was still in pain and smelled of my great grannies house!

MidnightPatrol · 18/08/2024 09:35

I all sorts of bizarre ones.

The most debilitating were:

  • I had a couple of episodes of pelvic girdle pain where I physically could not stand up.
  • Just everything around sleep after about seven months
  • carpal tunnel syndrome which meant I couldn’t use my hands for various things (most critically pulling up my trousers)
  • Heartburn. And the various times it would hit you eg waking you up at night.
longdistanceclaraclara · 18/08/2024 09:36

They are talked about, widely?

I used to walk the dog before work and puke several times along the way, that was nice. Stopped at about 14 weeks.

Then my SI joint fell apart at 18 weeks and I had to get signed off work.

Sat on the sofa for a few weeks with a bottle of gaviscon for company.

Ended up with an EMCS at 31 weeks.

I did not 'bloom' in pregnancy!

Singleandproud · 18/08/2024 09:38

I had HG and lost 25 lbs in 6 days and was hospitalised as extremely dehydrated. I was sick through the entire pregnancy and started it as a size 14 and was in size 8 jeans the week after giving birth.

I only have one child and despite loving being a mum and wanting more will not be putting myself through that again.

MillshakePickle · 18/08/2024 09:54

Let's see for me there was crippling all day sickness which lasted 31 weeks.

The random spotting.

The round ligament pain, if you stand or move too quickly.

Pelvic griddle pain

Lightening crotch

The discharge, oh my word, the discharge

The hyper sense of smell

The metallic penny taste that lasted the whole pregnancy

The extreme exhaustion

The spots and extra greasy hair

The need the pee every 3 and half minutes

The heartburn

Pregnancy farts that can peel paint off the walls

Off the charts libido

The roundness of pregnancy face and how puffy everything gets

Feeling like a beached whale for the last 6 weeks

Being out of breath walking up stairs when normally fit

Suddenly hating everything about H, from the way he smells to how he just existed near me. Or the fact that he was breathing.

As you can tell, I fucking loved pregnancy

junebirthdaygirl · 18/08/2024 09:54

I couldn't go into town as the smell of car fumes made me so sick..along with a million other smells at home. I couldn't stand tea or coffee but the minute the baby came tea was absolutely wonderful.
I couldn't stand for any length as my blood pressure was very low and l was constantly in a state of weakness. When l fell asleep it was like l was in a deep coma..l found it so difficult to resurface. It was a terrible tiredness that l never experienced before.
I didn't do well in pregnancy..3 times..but as soon as the baby appeared l was full of beans , so glad that awful feeling was over. Being pregnant felt like someone had injected poison into my system, everything was screaming against it. And it was the same when l went on the Pill l couldn't tolerate it. Wierd hormone stuff going on.

SouthwestSis · 18/08/2024 10:01

I don't know if it qualifies as a symptom but a side effect of pregnancy not well knkwn/talked about is gestational diabetes.
I hate it,
I hate the testing, how I always have to be meal planning/prepping, the extra appointments, mental energy, and having different choices about how my baby is delivered to try and reduce the risks to them. It sucks.

Vivaea · 18/08/2024 11:02

For me - restless leg syndrome. I didn't have it in my first pregnancy but have it now - sometimes I just can't get comfortable and thrash about in bed a lot.

veronicaaa · 18/08/2024 11:11

I had all day nausea/gagging throughout the 1st trimester ( no vomiting ), I lost weight as I could not eat. I am fairly active and felt incapacitated and totally bamboozled! I then was on bed rest for 7 weeks and got antenatal depression 😅. Now I am out of bed rest and only allowed to walk/yoga as exercise… and of course I am now getting pelvic pains as I lost all my muscle mass and now can’t actually walk (or sleep) 😂😂 … 3 months to go now, I love this baby, I swear!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/08/2024 11:13

But I do think these things are talked about. There must be thousands of posts on Mumsnet about first trimester morning sickness, fatigue etc.

I agree - all of these things suck, but they are absolutely talked about, at length, in great detail.

WhatMe123 · 18/08/2024 11:18

Piles at the end 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Thecatatnight · 18/08/2024 11:24

There are lots of undesirable pregnancy symptoms that maybe don’t get talked about that much but I would say nausea/ ‘morning’ sickness is talked about all the time!

lele2221 · 18/08/2024 11:33

I had nausea with both from 5 weeks until around 15 weeks. Horrendous it was, I could not go into a supermarket as I couldn't face looking at food. Went off meat for a while as the thought and smell made me sick. Oh and also suffered with sciatica which was worse than giving birth. The joys!

8lue8irds · 18/08/2024 11:33

Constipation
Restless leg syndrome (had never even heard of this before I got it)
Insomnia
Aversion to foods/smells
