Reduced movements

Hi,
I’m 37+5 weeks pregnant and I’ve already been into hospital today at 11:00am for reduced movements. The hospital had me on the monitor for 15 minutes before they told me everything was ok. I was still concerned as she only moved twice on the monitor and she’s booked me in for a scan on Thursday at 1:30pm. However, I am still very concerned over babies movements, she still isn’t moving as much and definitely not as strong. I don’t feel like the right thing to do is to wait until Thursday as I have a deep down feeling that something is wrong. Would you say it’s acceptable to go back up to the hospital again today or wait until the morning?
I have severe anxiety and one of them is that I’m not coming home with baby and I’ve been out on medication for my anxiety. Any advice would be helpful!
thank you :)

Also to add, I’m getting very inconsistent but strong pains since coming home. Baby was not engaged in my appointment a week ago.

If you’re worried, go back to the hospital.
if you feel it’s not right in your gut then go back and say you’re still concerned. But be aware some hospitals will want to induce you if you have multiple episodes of reduced movements.
Good luck x

Anxietymummy · 17/06/2024 17:45

Thank you so much for the advice. I hate feeling like I’m being a pain but I’m just not happy at all. I’ll bare the induction in mind.

thanks again x

Trust your instinct- if you feel something's not right keep on pressing until they take you seriously. You are more in tune with the pregnancy than anyone else can be, so you are getting messages from your body whereas they're just looking at machines.
Trust yourself.

Anxietymummy · 17/06/2024 18:00

Thank you so much!
This baby is usually extremely active, I dont get a minute without feeling her usually so to be nearly 24 hours with very slight movement is just not ok for me. My anxiety is getting the better of me which is why I’m worried incase I’m just overreacting but even my partner thinks something isn’t right x

Trust your gut and go back op please don't mess around with reduced movements and the staff won't be funny with you going back 😊😊

sarahc336 · 17/06/2024 18:09

Also if you hear anyone saying things like "babies move less near labour, they move less when it's hot" it's not true, there's no reason a baby would move less often so please ignore any advice along those lines

TeaKitten · 17/06/2024 18:10

Absolutely go back OP, even if you go back tonight and then twice again tomorrow it’s the right thing to do and they’d rather see you every day and all be ok, than have you stay at home and it be the wrong call. Good luck OP!

dimsumfatsum · 17/06/2024 18:13

I had 9 episodes of RFM. 6 for DC2. Both pregnancies ended up in Emergency csections despite all ecg traces being 'beautiful' according to the midwives. Go in as many times as you need.

PoopingAllTheWay · 17/06/2024 18:15

Go back now!

Hope you are on your way.

Dont wait and dont take no for an answer and tell them you want more than 15 minutes on the monitor

Anxietymummy · 17/06/2024 18:43

Thank you all for all your advice.
this is baby number 3 and I had reduced movements with my other 2 but never to this extent, I was always happy as they’d go back to normal and everything was actually fine but it’s been nearly 24 hours now and it’s still not right for her. I just have a gut feeling that something is wrong
I’m going back up to the hospital now. I’ll keep you updated.

thank you all again x

Definitely go back, you’re not wasting anyone’s time and don’t let the midwives be funny about it. Please do keep us updated and good luck xx

twoandcooplease · 17/06/2024 19:27

Yes please let us know how you get in and don't worry you aren't wasting anyone's time
Good luck and I hope all is ok xx

Kiwi23 · 17/06/2024 19:39

if you feel unsure and baby still isn’t moving as much as normal go back it’s ten minuets for them to make sure everything is ok x

Misspacorabanne · 17/06/2024 19:40

Hi op, please don’t worry about being induced, or let it stop you from going in to be monitored. I had reduced movements towards the end of my pregnancy. After a few episodes I had to have daily monitoring, it wasn’t as bad as it sounds as I’m local to the hospital, and I had to go in each morning to be monitored, this continued until 39 weeks, this was the aim to get baby to 39 weeks and then I was induced, not ideal or nice but I knew my baby was ok. I’m glad I went it for monitoring. Don’t feel silly or like you’re wasting time, go back!! It’s not worth risking! Hope all goes well.

I hope you're OK OP. Reduced movement is so hard to pin down sometimes. Always better to check. A registrar said to me once " a baby might move differently to how it did, not less, towards delivery". At the time that confused me but after having the same experience with both of mine I think I got the idea.

TeaKitten · 17/06/2024 23:06

How did it go OP?

Lorelaigilless · 17/06/2024 23:34

Never, ever ignore RFM. You know your body and your baby best. Hope everything is okay OP

Anxietymummy · 18/06/2024 08:46

Hi everyone.
I ended up being in there for hours yesterday due to business and waiting for a doctor who’d been rushed into an emergency c section. They left me on the monitor longer and she moved a few more times but still not to the extent she does. The dr has booked me in for an urgent scan this morning to check amniotic fluid, the blood flow from the cord and check her weight. If anything is wrong then we will go straight for delivery, If I’m still unhappy, I need to call the assessment unit and speak to another doctor about plan of action of what to do. She did give me a sneak peak scan even though she couldn’t really tell me anything and I did see babies heart and seen her move which was reassuring but I still feel like she’s weaker. This morning I still haven’t really felt any movements like usual. Very slow, very little and very weak movements.

thank you everyone. I’ll keep you all updated after todays scan x

Hi OP. Reduced movements doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong but it's always better to be safe than sorry. I was induced for reduced movements and ended up having an emergency C-section because my baby wasn't in a great position. If I'd waited it out he might have got into a better position and been born vaginally but my gut tells me that something was wrong and he needed to come out (he was unexpectedly borderline low birth weight). Keep getting medical attention every time you feel something isn't right, and in the meantime try spinning babies exercises to try and get your baby into and stay in the correct position.

elliejjtiny · 18/06/2024 08:54

Glad you are being seen. I went in for bleeding at 36 weeks because I have had miscarriages before and bleeding in pregnancy always scares me, even late on. Bleeding turned out to be just my show but I also had an infection that I hadn't noticed which was rapidly turning into sepsis. The hospital would rather see loads of women and babies who are fine than not see someone who had a problem but didn't want to be a bother.

sarahc336 · 18/06/2024 12:25

Well done op, your the only voice your little one has so well done for standing up for them, hope all is ok

PoopingAllTheWay · 18/06/2024 18:59
