Son and daughter are just fine whats with darling son and darling daughter its a bit excessive if you ask meπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pumpkinspice44 · 17/05/2024 21:27

Yes I've never really understood the terminology on here. Especially when people are complaining and still referring to their awful husbands as 'DH' πŸ™ˆ

SherlockHomies · 17/05/2024 21:27

It's totally cringe but most of us succumb to it in the end 😬😁

SherlockHomies · 17/05/2024 21:28

DDog and DCat make me cringe myself inside out. I've never succumbed to that! πŸ˜‚

Ankylo · 17/05/2024 21:30

To shorten them I guess. And can't just shorten daughter to D as that means something else.

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 21:32

I find it daft.
It's not like we are charged per letter like the early text messages πŸ˜‚

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 21:32

@Ankylo what does "D" mean if it's on its own?

maudelovesharold · 17/05/2024 21:34

Bit puzzled about this being in β€˜Pregnancy’!

Trolleysaregoodforemployment · 17/05/2024 21:34

I like the shorthand. In all honesty usually on a thread there are bigger issues than 'dear'.

Ankylo · 17/05/2024 21:37

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 21:32

@Ankylo what does "D" mean if it's on its own?

Dick

alwaysverytired · 17/05/2024 21:38

I don't read it as 'dear daughter' to me it just means 'daughter' it's just online forum shorthand it's really not that deep.

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 21:41

@Ankylo see I didn't know that.
I suppose in a relevant sentence it would make sense and you would be able to figure it out ("my husband was being a D yesterday") but really - why not just type "dick"?
We aren't spies. We don't need to communicate in code.

remaininghopeful23 · 17/05/2024 21:48

I hate it too! I don't know what makes me feel strongly about it, I just really don't like it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It’s used more in the context of β€œshe loves the D”. It’s gen z (??) slang, not Mumsnet terminology.

lightinthebox · 17/05/2024 21:53

There was one the other day that was DHTB and it puzzled me for ages. I think it was β€˜dear husband to be’ but it’s so stupid. Especially when you get DXH for ex husband.

Kleptronic · 17/05/2024 21:57

We may not be spies, however the weather in Minsk is surprising for this time of year.

SharonEllis · 17/05/2024 21:58

I hate it too. DC is the one that irrationally winds me up the most!

ClaustrophobicKipper · 17/05/2024 21:58

I don't mind them. What I do mind is that it seems to be spreading! Abbreviations for multiple things, there was a post a few days ago I still have no idea what she meant as it was like trying to read alphabet soup

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 17/05/2024 22:02

I like it. It's like being in a club.

CelesteCunningham · 17/05/2024 22:03

It's just ancient internet shorthand. I don't read "dear/darling son/daughter", just "Dee Dee/Dee Ess". Other sites use LG/LB for little boy.

TripleESept24 · 18/05/2024 00:23

I agree and could never bring myself to use any of them. I don't shorten at all I say baby girl, and I say my partner

RaraRachael · 18/05/2024 00:50

I've always thought it was silly so never use it. I can type the actual words faster than faffing about with capital letters

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 18/05/2024 00:59

It makes me cringe as well.

I know. I'm just trying to figure out why it is DD. That is all I came up with. I don't know this for fact.

I just used LB on my last post here (on another thread)!

MaryFuckingFerguson · 18/05/2024 08:06

D anything on here makes me cringe. It’s so unnecessary, outdated and NAFF! It originated pre-smart phone and belongs in the past.
