I’ve become used to it but I never use them. I hate trying to work some out and some have multiple meanings that can take a few sentences to decide which they’re using. DF could mean father, friend, fiancΓ©. It’s really not much of a time save but it’s how it is here.

The benefit of DH is that it saves us from 'hubby' which is even more cringe!

ZenNudist · 18/05/2024 08:27

No one translates it as "dear". It's just the shorthand for husband daughter son etc. It's not cringe. I find it easier to type than son or daughter both of which take 3 taps on my phone rather than 2 and that's dependent on my auto type putting daughter up after "da". Husband is the same. 3 taps.

I don't bother with capitals usually.

It's also worth saving space in a post.

D anything on here makes me cringe. It’s so unnecessary, outdated and NAFF! It originated pre-smart phone and belongs in the past.

YESS! I started seeing weird combos aswell like DSS and DDS i don't even know anymore..

Can’t stand it. No quicker to use D than it is to write the actual word, especially with predictive text.

DDog and DCat make me cringe myself inside out. I've never succumbed to that! πŸ˜‚

Oh gosh ! I haven't seen that one yet πŸ˜‚

There was one the other day that was DHTB and it puzzled me for ages. I think it was β€˜dear husband to be’ but it’s so stupid. Especially when you get DXH for ex husband.

LOL just when i thought i'd heard it all on netmums lingo😭

Better than Little Man though Grin

LMMuffet · 18/05/2024 08:56

Agreed. It’s so twee. However as its use is so widespread on here, I use it to aid understanding. Still bothers me though!

I think MN was created a long time before Netmums.

testing987654321 · 18/05/2024 09:02

You'll soon get used to it. I love AIBU with the responses or YABU or YANBU. (In my head these are words said as eyeboo, yahboo or yanboo.)

And STBXH occurs quite a bit.

Any relationship problem is answered with LTB.

Mumsnet tends to use the convention of DD1 for oldest daughter, DD2 for the next etc. I've come across other sites where the number is an age, DS13 freaked me out at first!

Totally agree.

I don't think it's twee though because I think most of us who have been familiar with these forever don't actually read it as dear/darling.
