Hi @Yourowgirl - that’s annoying that you feel under scrutiny if he seems happy and healthy. Ours was a similar weight at birth and dropped from just below the 91st percentile at birth to 50th percentile at six weeks and seems to have stayed there (we got him weighed today and he is eight weeks tomorrow). Health visitor said we can just continue to monitor him but didn’t seem overly concerned - just suggested I might consider one of their breastfeeding groups to check latch etc. She also said it’s quite common for large babies to drop percentiles.

Mum2b2024 · 18/07/2024 15:41

To anyone who had a C-section, have you done a scar massage before? I looked online about it but when I asked the doctor they didn't say I had to do it so I just wondered. Thanks. Hope everyone is getting on okay. I see some babies had their jabs. Mine had theirs this week and wasn't too bad. I'm glad at the beginning of the week as it's quite warm here now!

Yourowgirl · 18/07/2024 17:51

Thanks @PeppedUp that's interesting. At one visit the HV said bigger babies can drop down to a different percentile and settle there, but by the next weigh she said I have until Friday to try and get him to the weight they would expect by now for a baby that was 9lb at birth. Will see how it goes and try not to get stressed about it!

SarahB88 · 18/07/2024 21:09

@Mum2b2024 I’m attending an online scar care session soon that’s run by someone local to me. She does scar therapy too so I’m going to book a session with her as she teaches you how to massage for your individual scar and help with the lymphatic drainage. She recommends being 8 weeks post section before starting massage. I’ve had a good look at my scar but not done anything other than clean it, it’s 9 weeks tomorrow that my daughter was born.

She had her jabs on Tuesday, we’ve been having a terrible time since. She’s been so unsettled. She’s slept fine at night but it’s been impossible to get her to sleep during the day, she’s finally having a decent sleep on me now so who knows what she’s going to be like overnight now 🙄

We have her tongue tie assessment tomorrow so hoping she’s feeling a bit better for it.

Sa11yCinnamon · 20/07/2024 05:23

@Mum2b2024 I have an appointment next week with a massage therapist who does scar therapy, waiting til after my 6 week check at the GP (which is actually at 7.5 weeks).

If you use instagram, the @csectionuk account has loads of resources including massage.

How’s everyone doing?! How quickly is time flying! Has anyone else’s baby had tongue tie?

My little girl had a tongue tie. No one in the hospital noticed, it was the health visitor who pointed out. It was quite significant so we had it snipped about two weeks ago. Wasn't nice but she looks so much better for it and can stick her little tongue out now she has started smiling!

SarahB88 · 20/07/2024 21:45

Didn’t get a chance to update, my little girls been referred to surgery to get her tongue snipped so we’ll be getting that done on Monday 29th ☺️

Yourowgirl · 23/07/2024 09:35

Just to update on my situation: Hopefully like many things with new babies it will turn out to be nothing to worry about. When he was weighed on Friday he had gained 170g in four days, so going up quickly and we've been advised to reduce the number of formula supplements now and keep going to get him weighed with the Infant feeding team weekly. Fingers crossed he gets to a point that they're happy they don't need to keep monitoring as regularly. My mother's instinct is telling me he is healthy and just isn't going to be as heavy as he was when he was born percentile-wise.
Hope everyone else with issues is feeling well supported, and that all got through the hot spell ok!

SarahB88 · 23/07/2024 10:12

@Yourowgirl trust your gut! I’m the same with my girl, she was born 50th percentile but dropped to 10th. She seems to have now settled at 25th and is tracking along that line for a few weeks now, it would be a bit of a stretch to get her back in the 50th I think. Sounds like you’re getting on really well!!

FirstTim3Mummy · 28/07/2024 09:51

Postpartum bleeding, when did yours stop and were you FF or bf baby?

When did you get your first period (formula feeders) and how long did it last?

I had c section and formula feed baby. Post partum bleeding to 4.5 weeks. Ovulated a week later and then had my first period at 6 weeks which lasted 2.5 weeks! Having to see doctor tomorrow as this isn't normal
Period app says I'm due my next period any day! I've only just stopped the first one!

I also got sterilised during c section not sure this has any relevance

!

TheBirdintheCave · 28/07/2024 10:20

Post partum bleeding had stopped by four weeks post birth. I got my period eight weeks after she was born.

How long did it last and was it heavier and painful? X

SarahB88 · 28/07/2024 16:16

Postpartum bleeding properly for a couple of weeks then some spotting for another couple of weeks. I lost a lot of blood during my op though so was told I might not bleed as much as I would expect. I also got my period when baby was about 8 weeks. I’m used to having quite painful periods but this one was fine and I’d said it was a regular flow. Lasted 4 days which is normal for me. I had quite short 26 day cycles before getting pregnant so I’ll be interested to see I fall back in to that cycle. I forgot to track the first one but will need to record the second one and take it from there as we might start trying again in a few months but that’s still a topic of discussion.

PeppedUp · 28/07/2024 18:36

@FirstTim3Mummy I wouldn’t be surprised if your app just predicts your period based on the first day of your last period and the average length of your cycle. If so, it might be wrong about when your next one will be?

I’m breastfeeding and don’t have my period yet. In terms of PP bleeding I had it for about four weeks although it was very light spotting for the last couple of weeks.

With my previous pregnancy, my cycle was very short and less painful when it came back and I also had a short luteal phase, which I think is why I had a couple of chemical pregnancies before this one stuck.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/07/2024 19:16

@FirstTim3Mummy It lasted six days and was heavier than usual but didn't hurt. In fact, I didn't even know it had started as I felt absolutely nothing.

nh93 · 30/07/2024 00:04

@FirstTim3Mummy my one lasted ages approx 6 weeks it kept stopping and starting, just when i thought i was finishing i would bleed heavy with clots, i was concerned at first but then finally stopped.
& i got my first period at 7 weeks was really heavy & painful (i usually get painful heavy periods) it lasted10 days. apparently all normal x

FirstTim3Mummy · 30/07/2024 08:59

I've had some swabs taken just to check for infection and going for some blood tests. Hopefully it's just my hormones settling down. With the added sterilisation maybe my hormones have gone a little crazy

Sa11yCinnamon · 01/08/2024 13:50

Does anyone have any tips for daytime naps? My wee one is sleeping well at night but getting really tired and cranky during the day. He's fighting sleep so hard and hates being put down. He's 8 and a half weeks now.

OP posts:
Yourowgirl · 01/08/2024 14:17

@Sa11yCinnamon mine is nearly 8 weeks and rubbish at naps too. Doesn't sleep anywhere near as much as the books say during the daytime. I put him on the boob for a bit then walk him around winding/rocking, slowly lower him into the crib (continuing to rock as I go) then keep my hand on his chest as he startles and make shh noises until he's back to sleep again. Doesn't always work but that seems to work for mine best. Unbelievable how many times he drops off but then is suddenly wide-eyed again within seconds. Thankful that I do get a few hours unbroken most nights. Good luck!

PeppedUp · 01/08/2024 15:02

@Sa11yCinnamon I think it’s pretty normal for this age. Mine is unpredictable - some days he’ll do a three-hour nap and other days he’ll just have lots of little 10-minute naps. He sleeps best in his buggy or Stokke newborn chair. A sling or my arms work too but I prefer something where I can get a break myself. Do you use a dummy? That’s helpful for us but he can wake up if it falls out.

Sa11yCinnamon · 01/08/2024 17:38

Thanks @Yourowgirl and @PeppedUp, that's really reassuring as I keep worrying I've done it all wrong and if he won't go down now he never will. I do use a dummy but it never stays in for very long. Even out in the pram or sling he'll wake up and scream, keep cutting walks short and rushing home 🫠 Hopefully it'll improve as he gets a bit bigger!

OP posts:
Yourowgirl · 02/08/2024 17:26

Every single time mine has fallen asleep on a walk he wakes up as soon as we get home, no matter how gentle and quiet I try to be! I've got used to any daytime nap for myself being a rare bonus! Let's hope they all settle soon. We are having better nights than a few weeks ago

Sa11yCinnamon · 03/08/2024 22:43

@Yourowgirl I had a daytime nap with him the day he had his jags, any other day I've no chance 😭 but he does make up for it at night tbf, I'd say I'm averaging 6-7 hours.

SarahB88 · 03/08/2024 23:52

We’re still contact napping during the day as it’s the only way she sleeps more than 30 mins. I don’t complain though because she’s an excellent night sleeper, we’re just up once between 3-4am then tend to get another solid stretch until 7.

I went out for a boozy lunch with some of my mum friends and left her with daddy. He did an amazing job and she took her bottle and slept when she was meant to 🥳

Waiting for the 4 month regression to hit us hard as she surely can’t stay good 🙈

TheBirdintheCave · 04/08/2024 06:17

@SarahB88 My son didn't have any regressions. We kept waiting for it to happen but it never did so it's definitely possible for a good sleeper to stay a good sleeper.

M is SO close to consistently sleeping through now. She makes it to 7 more often than not so when she randomly hits me with a 5.30/6 (like today!) I really feel it 😂
