@LondonGirl1992 for an idea during pregnancy outside of NCT, do you have any prenatal yoga groups or similar near you? We have one that is a hybrid exercise and socialising session so I'm hoping I might meet some people there.

This is what I've done, we have a whatsapp group which isn't very active at the moment but I'm hoping will pick up as babies start arriving!

I’m currently sat on the couch, I can’t sleep or even lie down as - bit rank, sorry - I can’t stop burping 🙈 in desperation I took another two omeprazole (on top of two this morning) but they’ve not helped at all. Does anyone have any tips? It’s been getting gradually worse and worse.

@Sa11yCinnamon for me almonds help, worth a try.

Judethepud · 04/04/2024 22:56

@Sa11yCinnamon I have to sleep propped up, I have 3 pillows and another under ny body so I basically sleep half sitting up. Also being careful not too eat too late, eat too much and avoiding triggering foods. For me that's things like dairy, chocolate, tomato or garlic based foods, spice etc. Renees and gaviscon on top of the omeprazole can be helpful and bicarbonate soda with water.

bit of an obvious one but have you tried cold milk?
omeprazoles been a god send for me 🙏

Sa11yCinnamon · 05/04/2024 09:41

@Athena1984 @Judethepud @nh93 thank you for the tips! Will try almonds and cold milk, am already not eating too late and avoiding anything too rich or spicy. Yesterday I took two omeprazole before breakfast and one before dinner, and a couple of Rennie's after dinner and that seemed to work better too so will continue with that and hope the worst may be over! I don't tend to take much medication so that feels like loads but it's not for long now.

Thank you for your messages of support a while back when I was feeling sorry for myself! They were much appreciated xx

I've had acid reflux for years - runs in the family - and it's the absolute worst.

Some things I've found helpful outside of prescription or OTC medicines are drinking tonic water or as-hot-as-you-can- bear-it-without-burning-yourself chamomile tea. I've also heard almond milk is good, but it's not one I've tried.

I've found mint to be a trigger, so I avoid the teas, capsules etc. Also avoid anything too rich, especially dairy and also pastry (😪) delicious, delicious pastry is the absolute worst for me.

https://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Acid-Reflux-Naturally word of warning I noticed one of the suggestions is licorice root, so they're not all pregnancy friendly xx

Acid reflux, sometimes called heartburn or GERD, is a common condition that millions of people experience. When acid from your stomach enters your esophagus, it causes a burning pain in your abdomen or chest. This can be pretty...

@nh93 I'm also starting some batch cooking for the postpartum period...
I made some bone broth which turned into a bit of a nightmare because I got overexcited and got too many bones and then I didn't have the time and energy to cook all of them, so try not to overload yourself.
Also, tip, ask the butcher to cut the big ones in pieces, I struggled fitting them in the saucepan.

I also made some chicken broth, the basis of this recipe: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/mar/27/how-to-make-the-perfect-greek-avgolemono-soup-recipe-felicity-cloake because it tastes amazing and feels restorative.

If you have other ideas for nice recipes that freeze well, please recommend!!
We actually bought a small freezer on gumtree to fit in all the postpartum supplies...

@Colourfulflowers I would just not recommend the Thomson method course. I got spammed with it and finally bought it but the content is so badly organised that it's painful to watch!
It feels the lady is rambling about the same points with no structure, and she also feels very negative about some things ("everyone's advice is wrong, I'm the only one right").

It's 100 short videos and I think they could easily be 30 (or less) if she's been to the point and succinct.

I've heard good things about la leche league, they also have local FB groups.

I've never tried bone broth before so i'm hoping it's nice, i know the benefits are really good. thanks for the advice will definitely ask for smaller pieces.
so do i just ask the butchers for just bones or some with meat in so confused 😅 lol

this is is the recipe i saw on instagram not sure if link will work so il insert a screenshot of it.
I need to get a move on though, the easter holiday has been keeping me busy with the kids

Oh Omeprazole has been a total life saver for me, i know some ppl haven't had much relief but honestly it's so worth a try xx

Due May 2024? Part 3
LondonGirl1992 · 08/04/2024 12:37

After being SO positive throughout mentally, I had such a bad week last week! 🫣 I started my NCT course and hated it- it was only with 2 other couples and the lady running it was extremely anti-induction and pro home birth etc and it just didn’t align with anything I wanted to learn about. I actually rang this morning and asked to switch and they’ve said yes and we start a new one this evening which I’m so relieved about.

I also had to redo the diabetes test and was so sick all week! Just was a rubbish week.

so glad today is a new start, a fresh week and a week closer to meeting this little baby! It suddenly feels extremely real and close now doesn’t it?

is anyone else feeling uncomfortable when they walk/get up/sleep… I really am! 🤣

SarahB88 · 08/04/2024 14:39

@LondonGirl1992 I’m with you feeling uncomfortable! It feels like baby could come out at any moment the amount of pressure that’s going on 😂 I think I spend more time on the toilet than anywhere else at the moment too.

My sickness has returned in force which I’m not coping with particularly well. I’m back on cyclezine but still being sick every day but at least it’s limited to an amount that I can function. I’m looking at finishing up work a little bit early.

I’ve become extremely clingy to my poor partner as well, I just feel like he needs to be with me all the time! I don’t know if that’s a way of my body saying that labour is getting close or if I’m just an emotional wreck. He’s obviously being amazing but I feel sorry for him 🙈

On the plus side, my hospital bag is pretty much packed and my tens machine has arrived so I feel ready for labour.

We’re having babies next month!!!

Athena1984 · 08/04/2024 15:15

@LondonGirl1992 I feel the same way, the instructor is telling us to say no inducing and interventions ( through BRAIN acronym) and recommends home birth. I understand that medical professionals may be too keen on inducing/ intervention to make sure the baby is delivered healthy and don't keep mums best interests but at saying no to inducing/interventions as per the NCT instructions seem like the other end of spectrum.

I am a bit lost as my baby is still measuring on the lower percentile(<10) :( and last week they said we should talk about inducing end of this month if the baby doesn't pick up growth in the next scan!!!!!

Any one has any idea why inducing soon is a better idea when staying in longer would make the baby put on more weight?

Emmacb82 · 08/04/2024 15:54

@Athena1984 Do they perhaps feel that maybe baby is not getting as many nutrients from the placenta as they should be therefore staying in there longer won’t actually benefit?

Feeling very uncomfortable here too. Not sleeping well either which isn’t helping. Going away for a couple of nights tomorrow so really need to be packing and sorting bits out but no motivation. Also getting a bit teary and emotional but I’ve been like this towards the end every pregnancy so think it’s just an anxiety thing.

Sa11yCinnamon · 08/04/2024 17:04

Sorry you had such a bad week @LondonGirl1992 and sorry to hear about your sickness @SarahB88!

@Athena1984 I think there are very slightly increased risks of complications for smaller babies - absolutely not trying to scare you, but they may just feel more comfortable monitoring them on the outside as it were. Please try not to panic, they'll be classed as full term at 37 weeks so maybe just a dainty wee thing.

I'm another one feeling really uncomfortable, actually quite painful at times. Sort of cramp/ligament pains, and if I lie in the same position in bed for too long it wakes me up so I move.

I'm honestly just ready for him to come now, but also in complete denial that he's an actual human being who'll be totally reliant on me and my partner to keep him alive!

Think I've got everything I need for my hospital bag now so I'm going to pack it this week, and having a very low key baby shower (a sprinkle, if you like) at the weekend. Eeeek!

Regarding bone broth, do you drink it straight or use it as a base for other meals? My partner is going to do the batch cooking and we recently bought an extra freezer so hoping that we’ll be able to get well stocked up.

@LondonGirl1992 I hated all the pressure to have an intervention, drug free birth with my first. I was very anxious given the birth stories of me and my half siblings and I wish people had been more respectful about my fears. I hope your next group is better.

nh93 · 08/04/2024 20:09

@Athena1984 sorry to hear about your baby's growth. my last baby we had a low papp a (blood flow and nutrients from the placenta wasn't going through properly) so i was induced early as he wasn't growing towards the end. i was also put on aspirin when they picked the issue up at my 20 week scan.
it was very worrying and we had lots of scans and also a scare when they said he's femur wasn't growing, but he's absolutely fine. he weighed just under 5 pounds and now he's trying to help his dad hoover with his toy dyson 🤣

I'm not sure the recipe i've seen it looks like a soup and you can just have on its own add some veggies to bulk it up?

Baby shower sounds fun, i'm planning to have a intimate small one too around 36 weeks. I've not had one before and this time i really want to make the most of our last baby 🥲 just hope i have the energy for it

Hope your one goes well enjoy! :)

Clarkey34 · 09/04/2024 06:48

Well I've had an eventful weekend, went in for reduced movement on Saturday, went in for monitoring on Sunday, then spent 5 & half hours there yesterday. They aren't happy with the blood flow reading to baby vs the size of her (she is measuring 7lb 5oz with 5 weeks to go)
So at the moment there is talk of her being evicted at 37 weeks.

I'm back in for bloods & monitoring today & back tomorrow for results & to see the consultant again.

I wasn't expecting that news yesterday, so I might be having an April baby instead of a May baby now.

Am I allowed to stay in the May thread? 🤣🤞

Nina7 · 09/04/2024 07:31

Oh @Clarkey34 , I hope all is goes well and of course you'll always belong in the May babies group as well!
It's all the unexpected things we've got no control over!

@Athena1984 when I first got pregnant, I was also thinking it's very probable I'll get induced early because of slow growth, it happened to many of my friends. As mentioned, it might be that the placenta efficiency slightly drops towards the end and they judge that it's better for the baby to come out a little bit earlier (usually 37 weeks) than waiting all the way to whenever it does come out.
In a friend of mine it hadn't been picked up so her little girl was so tiny when it came out at 40 weeks (or more) that it has to stay in an incubator for a couple of days. But the little girl is almost 3 yo now, totally healthy and adorable! So are toddlers of friends that had to be induced because the placenta wasn't coping... So try not to worry too much about it, even though it might sound scary.

I'm surprised about NCT being so pro in non-induction, our course teacher was very balanced.

I was in two minds about having one as my friends and I usually take the piss out of big fancy ones, but I want to see everyone before the baby comes (and I may never have a hen do so my only chance to be centre of attention, ha!) so I was just clear it's to be low key and mainly revolve around eating cake 😊

Thanks for letting me stay ladies 🤣

I'm not sure if I'm being honest.

I obviously just want her to be ok & if she needs to come out early then that's the best option. It has been a lot to take in & process.

I'm excited to meet her & be a family, but scared as she is my first & I don't know what to expect.

Completely mixed feelings at the moment.
