Did the location of your placenta change from one pregnancy to the next?

For those who've had more than one pregnancy, was the placenta in the same-ish location in each pregnancy? i.e. did you have an anterior placenta in one pregnancy but a posterior placenta in the next? (Or any other combination?)

[Just asking because I had an anterior placenta in my first pregnancy and with a C-section scar now, am a bit anxious about having an anterior placenta again (which would would put me at greater risk for placenta praevia/accreta).]

I'm pregnant with my third and this is the first time I've had an anterior placenta! I imagine it's just a random thing since the placenta is a brand new organ each time you're pregnant?

JamNittyGritty · 30/01/2024 22:46

No, anterior with first, can’t remember with the second but definitely not anterior

lioneggs · 30/01/2024 22:58

Yes! Anterior placenta with my first, also had a c section. 2nd pregnancy now and have a posterior. The movements are WILD so different from my first!

AuntPru · 30/01/2024 23:01

First time, posterior, had an ELCS. Second time anterior, over the CS scar initially (anxious wait to rule out accreta), all good (but another ELCS)

whiteboardking · 30/01/2024 23:15

No idea. No one has ever mentioned this

wlv12 · 30/01/2024 23:17

Posterior first time, anterior 2nd time - both vaginal deliveries

Garman · 30/01/2024 23:18

Third pregnancy was the first time I had a low lying placenta, because of previous csections.

BestZebbie · 30/01/2024 23:18

It should be fairly random, as it is just where that specific egg physically settles, not something you spontaneously grow on your own (which would be expected to be similar each time).

Alloveragain3 · 30/01/2024 23:21

First time posterior.
Emcs
Second time anterior.
It was low lying the 2nd time round but had moved up by 20 weeks.

dullandgrey · 30/01/2024 23:25

First posterior, second anterior, both emcs

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/01/2024 23:29

First posterior, second anterior.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 30/01/2024 23:31

First anterior, second posterior.

MushroomQueen · 30/01/2024 23:32

Yes, DC1 was anterior, DC2 was posterior and DC3 posterior. It was a big difference in how much I could feel the baby move. But totally random where it was.

NewYearNewMeMamma · 30/01/2024 23:40

Baby #1 - posterior / natural
Baby #2 - posterior / natural
Baby #3 - anterior / natural
Baby #4 - posterior / emcs

Gloryloroliesjo · 30/01/2024 23:44

Am guessing that first pregnancy was anterior..couldn’t feel my baby until 24 weeks and placenta placement wasn’t a thing in early 90s !! Second and third I definitely felt the goal kicks by about 16 weeks!

runbackhome · 30/01/2024 23:46

Anterior and back to back for both of mine. Awkward little buggers.

DappledThings · 30/01/2024 23:47

I have no idea. Is there a way round that's generally less problematic? If so I assume it was that both times. It wasn't ever mentioned.

Dyra · 30/01/2024 23:57

Posterior with first, vaginal delivery.
Anterior with second, emergency C-section. Baby had been breech, but turned head down. But he remained back to back, then deflexed his head in labour, got stuck, and that was that.

LuckyMum1989 · 30/01/2024 23:58

Posterior first time and anterior placenta this time (30weeks) xx

blackpanth · 30/01/2024 23:59

Posterior with first and anterior with second. Might as well have been Posterior because movements were the same and felt second baba at 12 weeks

JessicaPeach · 31/01/2024 00:00

Posterior first time then with my twins one was posterior and one anterior. My placentas fused together during that pregnancy, it was absolutely enormous.

Itsallthelittlethings · 31/01/2024 00:02

Anterior first, posterior second.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2024 00:19

I've had three babies and haven't a clue where the placenta was for any of them, other than it wasn't anywhere awkward as all were vaginal births.

pinkpanther84 · 31/01/2024 00:42

Anterior first posterior second

Nursemumma92 · 31/01/2024 05:04

Posterior first, anterior second.
