Meal before C section

Hi all
what meal would you all recommend or did you have the night before your C section? Family want to order in a takeaway but I don’t know if I need something a bit more sensible and healthy?!

Depends a bit on whether it’s a morning or afternoon list. Generally avoiding a big fatty meal is better as it takes longer to clear through the stomach. It’s not uncommon to vomit during section’s and yacking up a several-hours-old curry/pizza/fish & chips/whatever else probably wouldn’t be that nice!

Mushroo · 02/01/2024 19:45

Yeh I threw up after mine from the anesthetic - I’d eaten soup and I’m glad I hadn’t had anything more stodgy!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 02/01/2024 19:47

Something with lots of fibre...

Ewoklady · 02/01/2024 19:48

I would just have something plain and filling like a jacket potato or pasta and cheese

JoyOdell123 · 02/01/2024 19:49

I’d cook something at home to avoid risk of food poisoning!

Alwaystired2023 · 02/01/2024 19:49

Maybe have the takeaway the night before the night before iyswim

Moancup · 02/01/2024 19:50

I had a fried chicken burger at the pub next to the hospital. I was starving as I’d been nil by mouth before I got bumped from that day’s list.

EmilyMay89 · 02/01/2024 19:57

Definitely go for something with lots of fibre, you want all the help you can get when you need your first number 2 afterwards!!

Omma23 · 02/01/2024 20:00

I had sushi (vegetarian and meat or cooked fish based). Even though I ate A LOT of it, it felt light. It also has plenty of veggies, not greasy etc.

Motherofchickenslol · 02/01/2024 20:18

I was in hospital being induced but ended up with a section. I asked for bbq chicken and rice. I got chicken korma! Just remember if you are numb from the epidural you will poop and not be able to feel it. My poor partner had to clean me up afterwards! With baby wipes as the room I was in only had a bath and I couldn’t lift my legs high enough to get in. I was also sick but it was more acid than food. Good luck I am sure you will be fine whatever you decide.

SparkleyMud · 02/01/2024 20:21

My husband wanted us to have a curry but there was no chance I was risking have curry farts on the operating table.

Have something healthy and tastey.

Friendshipissue · 02/01/2024 20:27

I cried out of pain due to trapped wind and constipation after c-section, therefore nothing that would trigger any of those. Would recommend lots of fiber

NotARealWookiie · 02/01/2024 20:32

I would have something easy to digest. I had a c section last month and had quite a plain meal as I didn’t want to have an upset stomach in the morning - through anxiety and spice food.

Steer clear of anything that will make you gassy - the post c section trapped wind is horrid.

Take a peppermint tea bag in your hospital bag to help with digestion

HollyJollyRobin · 02/01/2024 20:33

Plain and simple like others have said! I started vomiting within an hour or my section and it lasted about 12 hours or so!

Quickredfox · 02/01/2024 20:33

They are going to be moving your intestines around. I don’t think you’d want a takeaway inside them when you do. Can you have afternoon tea with your family instead? Then something plain for dinner.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 02/01/2024 20:44

I was nil by mouth from 5am so got up and had two weetabix and 2 scrambled eggs on white bread

Babyboomtastic · 02/01/2024 20:55

First section (both planned) we went out for pizza and to the cinema the night before.

Second section we went out for a curry.

I didn't even feel slightly queasy during my sections thankfully and scoffed an entire box of millionaire shortbread within an hour of my seconds birth 😂

Teats4twins · 02/01/2024 21:11

I had a big cheese board which I thoroughly enjoyed but probably would have been better off with something lighter and healthier due to windy cramps after the section!

Ireallywantsomechips · 02/01/2024 21:57

I had a Chinese takeaway the night before mine. But it was my 2nd section so I knew I didn't suffer with nausea

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 02/01/2024 22:00

Went out for a fancy steak!

GreatGateauxsby · 02/01/2024 22:01

Having had a section and done this…
I suggest…

Eat early
Eat something delicious but a sensibly sized portion.

I had a really nice modern Turkish. Skewered meat dips and salads

we reserved a table from 6.30pm

i did not vom and had minimal trapped wind

StampOnTheGround · 02/01/2024 22:02

Another one who vomited after my C-section or possibly during, it's all a bit of a blur 😂

Scutterbug · 02/01/2024 22:04

I’ve had 4 sections and had takeaways the night before. I never vomited after my sections though and had curry after two of them!

ShowOfHands · 02/01/2024 22:05

I had Chinese takeaway and I don't regret it for a second. I didn't vomit though and had no problems with digestion afterwards.

Twimum23 · 02/01/2024 22:08

@Skyplatypus i had Chinese the night before mine but didn’t have section till 11.40pm the following night
