Twins due 2024

Hi all. I’m 7 weeks pregnant with twins. I had an early scan due to a previous ectopic which revealed two growing babies with heartbeats. I’m looking to chat with other mums who are expecting twins or have had twins. I’ve read lots online but a lot the chat threads seem quite old. Is there anyone else out there? Thanks!
I have two DDs aged 7 and 4.

Hi @CB2805
I have to say I still don’t think it’s sunk in! Definitely lots of emotions, I’m quite irritable as well which my daughters are picking up on. They just want to be beside me all the time, which I understand, but I could use some space. I think because the house has been full all over Christmas I’ve not had time to really get to grips with it!
my 12 week scan will be 6th of Feb, feels like an age away but once school and work are back in full swing it shall probably fly by!

So glad I’ve found a twin thread. I’m currently just over 13 weeks pregnant with identical twins. I have a 13 and 10 year old already with my ex but this is 1st and 2nd baby for my current partner.
I was going to be classed as high risk anyway due to previous pre-e and HELLP syndrome with my eldest and them being delivered at 32 weeks
They have said they hope to get my to 36 weeks this time round, in regards to work I will take it 1 week at a time.
Im already struggling with spd pains but hoping that will settle down. Apart from that I’m just tired and hungry all the time. The 4am snacks are non negotiable

DilemmaWithTwins · 31/12/2023 22:44

Congratulations!
I have twins. Best thing everrrrrrr!
They're a handful and a blessing all at once.

Motherrr · 31/12/2023 22:53

Congrats on your twins! You have the benefit of not being a first time mum this time around so that will be good. We have boy girl twins age 2. Accept all help is good advice! The newborn stage is tough but you will be expecting that anyway. It will be good having your two older daughters to be able to help even if it's just holding a baby for a bit if they can do that? It will be a different experience having two but also will be amazing being a big family. Hope you carry them as long as possible! I went to 37 and 2

Lavender2016 · 01/01/2024 08:09

@MummyBear2519 - I started off having the munchies at 4am as well, this was before I knew it was twins. They can only be the size of a baked bean around now but my back and hips ache already

@DilemmaWithTwins - thank you! We have good family support around so hopefully in the early weeks I won’t be alone too often, and my hubby works from home

@Motherrr - the twins will be born around the start of the long summer holiday! My girls are already very helpful bless them, they are concerned that I’ve been so poorly. I think they will take very well to being big sisters

@Lavender2016 I had to eat every 4 hours the whole way through with my son or the hunger would cause me to double over in pain. Like I’ve never eaten before!
It was my birthday yesterday so I told my OH I needed a bigger piece of cake for all 3 of us lol
I already know the pram I’m getting but I will hold off buying anything until maybe 24 weeks?
I don’t want to leave it too late incase they make an early arrival like my daughter or I’m too big to do anything

STH1988 · 02/01/2024 11:30

@Lavender2016 Congratulations on your twins!
I am 31 weeks today with fraternal twins. Was a HUGE shock. The pregnancy was a breeze up until a few weeks ago and i'm feeling very heavy now/it's become a lot harder physically.
So nice to hear from all the other twin Mum's on here!

GeographyTeacher · 02/01/2024 21:45

Hey all. Just looking for a bit of reassurance.

We found out we were having twins at 6+6 a few weeks ago now. One twin was measuring 7, the other 7+2. We have another scan booked for the weekend as we couldn’t wait until the NHS one which will be almost 13 weeks and is 3 weeks away.

I’m just so worried that something is wrong. I feel like the intensity of my main symptoms has faded (sore boobs, hunger and exhaustion) and I have moments where I don’t feel pregnant…let alone pregnant with twins. I’m not sure if I’m just getting used to feeling rough all the time or whether they are actually fading.

I had a MMC in the summer and my symptoms faded gradually over the weeks 8-12 but this does feel different to that, I’m still exhausted and still experiencing symptoms. Can anyone else relate? Any experiences similar to this? I feel like the loss I had in the summer is really impacting my ability to think straight….

Arnot · 03/01/2024 11:07

Hey all 👋🏻- jumping on this thread as I'm currently 21+6 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins. 🥰 These will be our first babies.

We aren't finding out the sex of the babies, leaving it as one true surprise! 😃 20 week scan went smoothly, see the consultant at 24 weeks and then will start purchasing all our bits and pieces. All very exciting 😊

STH1988 · 03/01/2024 11:40

Hi @GeographyTeacher
Congratulations!
I found out I was having twins around 7 weeks as well and one has always measured a few days ahead of the other!
As twin pregnancies go, I had hardly any symptoms - no nausea whatsoever, I was very tired in the first 12 weeks but that was really my only symptom. Everyone says with twins your symptoms will be heightened etc but really wasn't the case for me!
Having said that, I am now 31 weeks and REALLY feeling it! Hopefully a private scan will give you some reassurance. Have you had your booking in appointment yet?
All the best x

GeographyTeacher · 03/01/2024 17:49

Thank you @STH1988 for your reply.

it’s really reassuring to hear someone in a similar boat. I know that no 2 pregnancies are the same but I’ve been feeling mostly ok the last few weeks and it’s just got me worried. I know that a lot of women carrying twins are in the trenches from early on. I guess I should just enjoy this bit while it lasts.

Scan is Saturday when I will hopefully be 10 weeks and 3 weeks on from when we found out so really praying we see some growth and those hearts are still beating. Booking appointment was the morning before the scan we had and all very routine. They start talking about how you want to give birth and you’ve not even had a scan to really confirm you’re pregnant…I find it a bit weird!

When did things get ‘tougher’ for you? Xx

Lavender2016 · 03/01/2024 20:19

@GeographyTeacher
ive been finding my symptoms come and go. Almost one day on one day off! We had a scan around 7 weeks and one was measuring smaller. My sonographer was not concerned at all. My next scan isn’t until 6th of Feb which feels ahe’s away. I have the same worry about losing one of the twins, I try not to focus on it and the
most likely outcome will be everything will be OK.
I’ve been riding a rollercoaster of emotions!

STH1988 · 04/01/2024 09:40

@GeographyTeacher It's so funny how different every trust is, I have been trying to have the birth conversation for weeks and only in the past couple do I actually feel like they are entertaining it!

Hopefully Saturday they will be able to see what type of twins you are having too which is super exciting. Could they see at the 7 week scan if they share a sac or not?

I honestly felt like I breezed through up until about 28 weeks. The second trimester I felt the best I've ever felt! A bit of heartburn here and there but I've been sleeping well which I think makes a big difference.
As I've got bigger it's just got a lot more difficult physically in terms of how far I can walk/how much I can do and that I am finding frustrating and tiring. The weight of the bump has given me some pelvic and back pain as well but I bought a belly band which has made the world of difference.

Good luck for Saturday - keep us posted! x

User491 · 11/01/2024 11:19

Morning everyone,

Just found this group, I thought it would be useful to join a twins group 🥰

I'm 12+1 with twins. This is an ivf pregnancy, and I've had 3 scans already. The last one was private and both babies were looking healthy, but a little smaller than my dates.
I have an NHS scan on Tuesday which I cannot wait for. I'm desperate to know that they are both ok 🤞🏻
I've had fluctuating symptoms, the sickness stopped around 9 weeks and only had it very mild a couple of days since. Today I woke with a dreadful headache and feeling nauseous this morning. Seems to be passing now.

Long as all is well, be so nice to be part of this group for any advice and help 🥰

Lavender2016 · 21/01/2024 10:05

Hi all, how is everyone doing? I’ve been so anxious recently that my husband and I decided on a private scan. We saw our babies yesterday, Baby A measuring 10wks5days and baby B measuring 10wks3days ❤️
it was such a relief. The sonographer also measured the nuchal fluid and said it was looking good, however of course I understand that I won’t get a full screening until my NHS dating scan in a Few weeks.

@Lavender2016 so glad you have got the reassurance you needed. My due date was moved forward a week which I was shocked by.
I have my 16 week scan on Wednesday when I’m 16+5 and then will be having them every 2-3 weeks from then.
Really hoping we can find out the sex of them. Everyone has their bets on but we shall see. Just hope they are behaving themselves and sharing the placenta 😂.
I feel huge already so very worried for how much bigger I’m going to get in the next 20 weeks

CB2805 · 21/01/2024 11:26

Hi ladies so glad everyone’s scans going great🫶🏻
do you have a bump already?
im 14w and yes I’m bigger but I wouldn’t say that I got a bump?
also how much weight have you gain so far?
before pregnancy I was 59kg and now I’m measuring nearly 66kg. Not that I’m bothered but feeling a bit uncomfortable with my movings already and I think it’s a bit much for that early?

Lavender2016 · 21/01/2024 13:22

@MummyBear2519 thank you! We are going to book a private gender scan so our girls can come with us, I want them to feel involved with the process.

@CB2805 I’m already overweight so I’m really hoping I don’t gain too much at all!

OP posts:
Lavender2016 · 21/01/2024 13:22

@MummyBear2519 do you know what kind of twins you are having?
also do you mind sharing if you had the combined testing for downs/edwards/pataus?

OP posts:
MummyBear2519 · 21/01/2024 14:31

@Lavender2016 I’m having identical twins so share a placenta and sack but have their own pods within.
At risk of the twin to twin thing where one gets more nutrients than the other so lots of growth scans with a consultant.
I also had a previously pregnancy where I got PreE and HELLP, my daughter was born at 32 weeks so have a high risk midwife too.
Our goal is 36 weeks then a planned C-section.
I had the blood test down after my 12 week scan and the results were low risk

Toon92 · 21/01/2024 15:39

Hi!
I’m 25 weeks with IVF twins, they’re DCDA so own sacs. Started getting bits ready but not sure when to finish work! I’d always thought I’d want to go on as long as I could but I could genuinely finish now haha.
I’m getting heartburn and back pain but that’s about it, just starting to feel ready for them coming. Just under 12 weeks to go!

Lavender2016 · 22/01/2024 07:17

@Toon92 I have heard that being pregnant with twins means you may have to stop work earlier. I am trying to think about that now, I’m going to save my holiday so I can take a couple of weeks off before maternity leave starts. My work offers a scheme where parents can be fully paid if the babies are born before 37 weeks

Charlotte390 · 22/01/2024 09:23

Hi all, joining this thread tentatively as I found out I have MCMA twins last week at a 7 week scan! One had a much stronger heartbeat the the other so there's a chance one won't survive, we just have to wait which is extremely nerve-wracking!

I also had a MMC at 18+6 in August so I'm taking aspirin and heparin for borderline APS, so was already high risk. Now I'm just hoping that both twins do well and they find a membrane for a (very slightly) less stressful time!

So far feeling ok, just some nausea in the mornings and a little tired. No breast growth/tenderness which is worrying me slightly as I could barely lie down last time, but I read it's more normal second time round as they've already developed somewhat.

Due date was originally 2nd September but now anything could happen so trying to keep and open mind and my head screwed on...

Lavender2016 · 23/01/2024 09:30

@Charlotte390 thanks for sharing. I’ll
be keeping my fingers crossed for both your babies healthy growth. ❤️

OP posts:
MummyBear2519 · 23/01/2024 11:37

@Charlotte390 keeping everything crossed for you. At my private scan at 8 weeks the lady couldn’t say for sure she saw a membrane but by my 12 week scan it was definitely there
