Travelling to Abu Dhabi, unmarried and 24 weeks pregnant

Hi all,

Myself and my partner would like to go away in February when I am approx 24 weeks pregnant. We want to go somewhere that is warm enough for a beach holiday and after a lovely experience in Abu Dhabi last year we were thinking it would be a nice place to return to. My only worry is that I’ll be showing quite a bit by then (I’m already visibly pregnant) and we are not married. I am also worried about healthcare.

Has anyone been whilst pregnant and do you have any advice?

Many thanks! 😊

Wear a wedding ring?

LetMeOut2021 · 22/12/2023 17:27

Just check the hotels will allow you to share a room with you not being married. I nearly booked a holiday in Turkey that didn’t.

Nadiedodsie · 22/12/2023 17:31

Thanks, it’s a Hilton hotel we are looking at so hoping that should be ok. I’ll double check!

@Stresa22 my concern would be medical treatment and whether they ask for proof of marriage. I’ve heard horror stories but also nothing that’s very recent

why risk it

DidIMakeaMistake · 22/12/2023 17:34

Canaries will be sunny in Feb.

bossybloss · 22/12/2023 17:35

It’s not worth it … don’t go!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 22/12/2023 17:35

Yes agree with above we went to Tenerife in January and was warm enough for pool and beach x

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/12/2023 17:37

I would go somewhere else

LetMeOut2021 · 22/12/2023 17:39

There’s nothing worse than being vulnerable and treated with disdain!!

LunaandLily · 22/12/2023 17:41

Tacky place to go on holiday. Is it really ethical to bolster the economy of a place where it’s illegal to be gay? Where slavery is legal? Why not look at the human rights record of the place first and then choose a different destination.

How’s that relevant to the OP?

Annon00 · 22/12/2023 17:42

It's really, really not a good idea. Go somewhere where the risks are much lower as others have suggested.

MooQuackNeigh · 22/12/2023 17:44

We are currently on the canary islands and it's lovely here. 21degrees and sunny. Warm enough to swim and it's nice and quiet out of season. Probably even better In a couple of months. No jet lag, most staff speak some English, food has been fantastic.

Hiddenvoice · 22/12/2023 17:46

I probably wouldn’t risk it and would look elsewhere.

WinterNamechange · 22/12/2023 17:48

If you are this worried about the trip before even booking it, then go somewhere else. How about the canaries?

Hatty65 · 22/12/2023 17:49

I wouldn't. I wouldn't go to any place where I knew they would find my personal circumstances and choices in life morally offensive and where it might cause issues for me.

Personally I agree with @LunaandLily . I can't conceive of ever choosing to go visit a place which treats human beings like they do. I don't care how much sunshine they have.

gotomomo · 22/12/2023 17:49

Canaries are a better bet - early 20's and good hospitals. Make sure you have a ghic card and insurance that knows you are pregnant

gotomomo · 22/12/2023 17:51

I refuse to even fly with Middle Eastern airlines. I have a conscience

TomeTome · 22/12/2023 17:52

Unless it’s changed massively I would say it was a very silly thing to do. Medically assuming you’ve got good insurance then fine but as a destination for gay or unmarried couples, absolutely not.

How’s that relevant to the OP?

Surely it’s relevant to anyone who is thinking of going to Abu Dhabi? Especially as some of the human rights issues are linked to the reasons the OP is concerned.

I would say it's not allowed if you read the link. I don't think I would venture somewhere unknown at 24 weeks tbh & would stick to somewhere in Europe. I don't think heat is great for unborn babies & what if you have complications?

megletthesecond · 22/12/2023 18:10

If this is real, No, don't be stupid. Give your head a wobble and go somewhere else.

Throwawayme · 22/12/2023 18:12

Don't be daft. Go somewhere else

Torganer · 22/12/2023 18:14

I can’t think of anything worse than going there for a holiday, but how would they know you aren’t married? I know friends that have been and haven’t had to show their marriage certificate?!
