I did and never regretted it for a second. I loved knowing.

i did regret it

mollymawk · 11/03/2008 21:48

If you are not sure you want to (which I guess you are not since you are asking) then I would say don't.

Lizzylou · 11/03/2008 21:49

I meant that it was an anticlimax because we knew that "name" was due via c-section on x-date, so when we got the message that the baby was born, the whole, I don't know, mystery was gone. Of course we were glad of safe arrival of baby.
I was dying to know with both of mine (more so due to repeated scans at end of pg with DS2,which was just torturous), but was actually really, really glad that I didn't.

If you do decide to find out one of the ladies on my antenatal thread got the scan person to write it on a piece of paper which they put in a sealed envelope under their tree and opened xmas day.
So you can still make it really special.

No we didn't and I am pleased we didn't. I am also surprised so many people do find out though. I love the whole "if it's a boy we'll call it.. or if it's a girl then ...." All the specualtion is exciting in my opinion and part of the joy of being pg. Finding out would spoil it for me.

Heartmum2Jamie · 11/03/2008 22:21

I did find out with both of my boys. With ds1 we went private to find out, with ds2, I saw what looked eerily familiar and the tech told me it was another boy. I am now pregnanct again and don't want to know. I don't regret finding out with the boys, but this is going to be my last baby and I think a suprise would be nice.

chipmonkey · 11/03/2008 22:44

have found out this time I am expecting a 4th boy. I was upset as this was to be our last baby ( although a few minutes after I rang dh to tell him, he rang back and said we could try again, bless him!) I am glad I found out as I tend to get weepy and hormonal any time I have a baby and I really didn't need one other thing to be crying about after the birth!

Sometimes you do not get the chance some flap their bits around and you simply can't miss them others like this little one get stage fright and not only cross their legs quite firmly and trying to hide it's face behind a fibroid

With DS we didn't know. I asked the midwife who got to us 5 mins before he came out not to tell us and the only bit of his birth that went "to plan" was when DH told me we had a boy.

With DD We got them to write it on a little card and put it in an envelope. Then we went out for a posh lunch and opened it with a glass of champagne -

Both lovely ways to find out.

damdaffs · 12/03/2008 06:50

baby might have other ideas on the day of your scan; i was desperate to find out with my first but she had her legs all wrapped up and the nurse couldnt see a thing - i was gutted!

MrsTittleMouse · 12/03/2008 08:46

Yes - we did and didn't regret it at all. DD didn't have a great arrival into the world and we were too concerned about her (and me) to have the "it's a girl!" moment at the birth - we were glad that we'd had it during the pregnancy.
