Evening all,

I'll be finding out the sex of my baby in a couple of weeks and I'm very excited. To help pass the time I'd like to live vicariously through you!

Please share your stories of when you found out if you were having a boy/girl. How did you feel? How did you tell your family? Did you have any inclinations beforehand?

Did it make your pregnancy feel any more "real"?

Thanks

First time at 20 week scan snd as my husband already had two boys he was hoping for a girl. It was a boy. First thing he said as we left: 'there's always next time'! I was 41 at the time so no guarantee of that!
Second time we were both expecting it to be a boy so when technician asked if we wanted to know my husband said 'it's a boy right'? The tech said 'I didn't say that'. My husband had him repeat twice that it was a girl. 👶. And they both fall squarely on the stereotype of boy being boisterous snd loud and busy and she is quiet and studious. Both opinionated though!

And while it didn't make the pregnancy more real I felt it made my babies feel like people and we chose their names etc.

I only found out once and really regretted it for the rest of the pregnancy.

Would you be willing to share why you regretted finding out?

Do not bother with "sneak peek", 99.9% accuracy my arse!

NIPT is only 99% and it’s the most accurate test there is, who do they think they’re kidding with 99.99% 🤣

I found out both times. I was so desperate to know!! I was incredibly excited before each scan.
With my first I had a slight preference for a girl simply because we're a very male heavy family so it would be a novelty to have a girl. It was a girl and we were all pleased, including both sides of the family. I think finding out the sex made it all seem more real and exciting.
With my second I had a preference for a boy. I love little boys, have two younger brothers I've always mothered. Obviously I would have been delighted with another girl too.
I actually found out earlier than expected. I went for a 12 week scan but had got the dates wrong (due to having a normal period whilst pregnant!) and was actually 16 weeks. The sonographer could see it was a boy.
I was so happy! Both times I'd got my preference but I want to emphasise I would have been equally happy with two boys or two girls.

I had had 3 very vivid dreams before my first that told me baby was a boy and he was (found out at 20 week scan). I didn't have a preference, but my dh really wanted a boy and so it was great to see how happy he was. It felt like a surprise but also not because of the dreams I'd had!

I've had dreams of both! I sway from "I would put money on a girl" to "I am convinced it's a boy" every few weeks 🤭

I will find out In less than two weeks but I must admit I'm enjoying the excitement of guessing and being in that "limbo" period

@HelgaPatakisDiary For me, it felt like knowing what was in a gift before I opened it. A bit deflating. I see that others may feel differently.

NorthCliffs · 11/11/2023 20:40

Sonographer: A boy.
Me: Are you sure?
Sonographer: Definitely!
Husband: Beams with pride.
🙄

I have 5 children and was able to find out with the last 4 at the 20 week scan. The first 4 were boys so when the lady said it was a girl for my 5th child, I literally let out a little scream and she asked me if I had won a bet 😂. I couldn't believe it and was on cloud nine for the rest of the pregnancy and even got butterflies in my belly for the first few months after she was born when I changed her nappy or hung out pink clothes on the line. I never thought it would happen and feel blessed to experience having sons and a daughter

OldTinHat · 11/11/2023 21:15

DC1 was at birth but I knew he was going to be a boy anyway, just knew.

DC2, decided to ask at the scan for practicalities sake (clothes etc as there would be just 18m between them). Again, knew he was a boy but at the scan XH was wrestling with DC1 as the nurse said it was another boy. We got in the car to go home and I asked him how he felt about another son and he was so shocked! He didn't even hear the announcement because DC1 was being a pest!

That's a good way of putting it, totally understand that

All these stories have made me smile but this one especially

With DD we had no idea at all, but were leaning towards boy as a guess. We were very surprised when the sonographer said girl! After she was born, DH said "she's so beautiful!" and I told him to double check she was actually a girl Grin

With DS I knew he was a boy. I know it's 50/50 but I was convinced. Plus DD (3 at the time) insisted she was going to have a little brother before she even knew I was pregnant! She just would not entertain the idea of a sister at all. We told her she was going to be a big sister after the 20wk scan and she said she knew it would be a boy. (She'd also asked me if I was pregnant before I found out.)

The sonographer laughed when scanning and said "well, you can tell that's a boy, can't you!" and DH and I solemnly agreed. Then privately agreed that neither of us had any idea what we were looking at on the screen at the time. His scan picture looked identical to DD's in the end! Definitely a boy, though.

prayforthecottransfer · 12/11/2023 10:48

With my DD, I did the sneak peek in a clinic at 10 weeks pregnant because I'd had a mmc before without knowing and I wanted to know the sex of this baby. It was also end of February 2020, so I timed it well without knowing the world would be locked down a mere few weeks later!

With my second, my DS, we had a scan at 16 weeks and let off a cannon between my DH, DD and me, which we filmed to send to family members.

I already had a son, I’d had several losses and was 16 weeks with twins. I went to the check up by myself not anticipating being told so early but the Dr let me know I was expecting twin girls. My (now ex)H was so disappointed that he didn’t speak to me for a week.
