Hi!

So I've been in and out of hospital and due to preeclampsia I'm being induced or possibly having a Csection on Saturday, today when I went for a growth scan they said she is only 5lbs 3oz she's gonna be a tiny girl! (I know these scans aren't always accurate) but basically I was just wondering if you had babies around these weights, what size clothes fit your baby and which size nappies? We have a few tiny baby bits and I think 1 packet of size 0 nappies but I'm just thinking if we may possibly need more?

Any help is appreciated ☺️ x

Tiny baby is probs what your looking for.

OK So I've just checked the asda website - they now have a size called up to 6lb rather than tiny baby.

Lollyloup81 · 01/11/2023 15:35

Hi Op, my little girl was born 4 months ago weighing 5lb14 at 38+1, so probably similar to yours at the 37 week mark!

We used tiny baby clothes for a couple of weeks and we got Tesco size 0 nappies.
I'd get 2/3 packs of nappies and about 6 babygrows and vests, then you might find she fits newborn quite quickly.

I found the Tesco newborn clothes quote small, and sainsburys so good for babies who start in tiny baby.

Hope all goes well! I have to say I loved having a tiny baby 🥰

Fleur405 · 01/11/2023 15:36

I’d say take a couple of options. I had multiple growth scans (all with a consultant) that consistently said baby would be less than 6 pounds at full term. She was 8lb 6 at 39 weeks (!) and the nappies and clothes we had taken to the hospital were all too small for her!

Maraudingmarauders · 01/11/2023 15:36

I would go for more size 0 nappies, and possibly some premature size nappies. My boy was 7lb 8oz and wore size 0 for a week.

Mrsjayy · 01/11/2023 15:38

Hi both mine were 5lLbish I would get a couple of packets of the prem nappies to start I bought a few prem vests etc and just went from there. My youngest is 26 so I'm not sure how clothes will be sized now but I bought 3-6lLbs clothes.

TakeMe2Insanity · 01/11/2023 15:39

Tiny baby size and it could well be that tiny clothes are big. You’ll probably find if you have a sling thats a clip on type eg ergo etc the baby will be below the safe weight so it’s good to get a wrap sling as they fit the baby’s size. It takes a bit of practice but you’ll love being hands free! Good luck with everything.

My DD was 5lbs 12oz at 38w. You will def need more size 0 nappies. We had to buy some emergency tiny baby stuff as we didnt have any and that was fine. Agree with @Lollyloup81 that Tesco baby stuff is on the small size so a good option. M&S is really generous so if you buy M&S tiny baby, you might even find that is a bit big!

We couldnt use any of our slings or sleep bags for a while as they were too big as well so also worth maybe buying a small size grobag for bedtimes etc.

I had pregnancy hypertension and DD was basically always a size behind her age until she was around 1yr and then she caught up. The beauty of this is if you have lots of newborn stuff already, it could potentially last you quite a while.

Good luck!

DS was 5lb 8oz when he was born at 37w on the dot back in May. Tiny Baby is the size you’re looking for- he was in those for a few weeks before he “graduated” to Newborn.

I was scanned weekly from like 32w or so so knew he was likely to be snack sized, but he was bigger than predicted. They’d thought he would be sub-5lb.

MuchTooTired · 01/11/2023 16:00

My babies had a scan at 34/35 weeks and were measuring around 4lb higher ounces, and were born at 36+5 weighing 6lb 6 and 7lb 3. They were in slightly smaller newborn clothes and just normal newborn clothes (that were too big for them, but their delivery was a surprise also due to pe) and they wore size 0 nappies for the first couple of weeks.

They caught up in size pretty quickly, and went into 3-6m clothing around 3m old.

Good luck!

InTheRainOnATrain · 01/11/2023 16:05

Well I was told DS would be 6lbs, based on fortnightly scans with a fetal medicine consultant, so stocked up on all the tiny baby stuff and out he came at 8lbs3 and went straight into 0-3 months! I’d only brought one of that size to the hospital so swiftly had to send DH home for more. So my advice would be get all the sizes but keep receipts!

Wishingawaymylife · 01/11/2023 16:07

OP I would get just one packet of the tiny nappies and a handful of tiny babygrows. Your baby is going to be dainty but that won’t last, so please don’t spend a fortune on things that will last a week and are guaranteed to get poo stains on!
you don’t say how you’re feeding her, breast milk takes a wee while to get going so they usually drop a bit at first then start to fill out. Formula fed often start packing the timber on straight away, but either way the rate they grow is absolutely shocking!
so if I were you I’d get a bundle of tiny baby sleepsuits and vests and just buy all the pretty and fancy stuff at the normal newborn to 3 months because she’ll be in them in no time. Also to add confusion, one of mine was very low birthweight ( healthy and born on due date - just skinny) but was ridiculously long so she fitted ordinary newborn stuff but it was baggy and her arms would sometimes get trapped in the torso after sliding them out the sleeves so I had to watch out for that. So if you or Dad are very tall you might be surprised that little miss can hold her own in a standard newborn onesie. Good luck!

Somewhatchallenging · 01/11/2023 16:09

My DD2 was born full term at 5lb 5oz. We just used the baby grows and vests we’d had for DD1. We got the smallest “standard” nappies. Nothing labelled premie etc.

JollyHostess101 · 01/11/2023 16:11

My little girl was 5lbs 4 and born at 37 and 4!

tiny baby from Asda fitted the best and Lidl 0 nappies were the best and we tried almost all of them!!

soberfabulous · 01/11/2023 16:13

Hello Op.

Our daughter was born at 36 weeks and was 4 pounds. It was so hard to find rings that fitter, even tiny baby stuff hung off her.

Get the smallest nappies you can and you have to tighten them a lot.

Good luck! Tiny babies are such sweet little dolls.

Needmorelego · 01/11/2023 16:16

Congratulations 🙂
Mine was 5 pound 2. I had "helpfully" been advised not to bother with newborn size clothing ("they grow so quick") and just get size 0-3. Poor baby - the clothes were hilariously massive so a quick dash to the shops for Small Baby size was needed.
She's 15 now so some shops we bought from have gone but I see loads of beautiful clothes in Small Baby size in Sainsbury's, Asda and Primark.
I think she finally got to wear some of the 0-3 stuff at 6 months.
They might have changed a bit now but I always found Pampers nappies smaller than own brand ones so we would have started off with their size 0.

WhatInTheFuckery · 01/11/2023 16:17

My youngest was 5lbs 14. She was in tiny baby for around 1 month, when she was born she was in Next Tiny Baby (up to 5lbs) and then was in to Asda, Tesco etc which was up to 6lbs I think. SHe was in size 0 nappies for what felt like ages so I'd maybe get a few packs.

Corilee2806 · 01/11/2023 16:19

My daughter was 5lb at nearly 38 weeks! She was really dainty for a while so it was worth stocking up on size 0 nappies and tiny baby vests and sleepsuits, I remember having to send my parents out to get more vests! This was 5 years ago and tiny baby didn’t seem to be so widely available then but think there is more choice now.

as others say, in the event the scans aren’t accurate and she is bigger, keep receipts so you can exchange - up to 7lb and 1 month are really useful for petite babies as 0-3 is actually pretty big!

hope all goes well for you x

TravellingT · 01/11/2023 16:24

DD was born 5lb 4oz, she was in size 0 nappies for a while and tiny baby clothes- they were slightly too big for the first week but nothing unmanageable. Up to 6lb clothes aren't massively different to tiny baby, so don't seek them out if tiny baby is available.

The hospital will have prem baby nappies, so don't buy any just yet as you might not need them!

DD is now a bright, healthy and sturdy 5 year old, and thankfully has never shown signs of being prem (not behind in development or anything).

Best of luck with your birth xx

Same! Was told he'd be 5lb3 and he came out 6lb7. Luckily I'd took newborn not tiny baby sizes

Snugglemonkey · 01/11/2023 16:54

I would not buy too much at all. My first was born at 37 weeks and was 5lbs 4oz, but very long. So straight into 0-3 month vests and baby grows. Then my second was full term and 7lbs 10 oz but a short chubby wee thing who 0-3 flapped on. So we used the first size stuff eventually, but you might find you don't need the first size.

Snugglemonkey · 01/11/2023 16:55

Nappy wise, size 0 fitted both.

cecil2090 · 01/11/2023 21:50

Pampers do micro nappies (not sure if that's the same as size 0) which dd used when she was born at 5lb 12oz
Primark have good range of sizes for small babies and actually labels the sizes rather than just tiny baby so that might be a good place to look. I know some larger Tesco stores do premature clothes but not sure of the sizing x

looking4pup · 02/11/2023 05:48

Aw I was 3lb I wonder what my mum did 😂

IggyAce · 02/11/2023 05:54

My dd was born at 37weeks and was 6lb 2oz, some one gifted me a tiny baby outfit and it fitted her perfectly.

Elektra1 · 02/11/2023 06:01

I had a 5lb baby at 38 weeks and she wore Tiny Baby size for a month, then newborn. She was fine. Good luck for the birth!
