I need inspiration: baby boy coming home outfit

What have you got for your coming home outfit for your baby boy?

I haven’t found anything I like, I have been looking for a blue-ish babygrow and matching hat set, but haven’t had any luck and I only have 9 days to go until his arrival! …

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

This!

But OP wants a special outfit. So how is this helpful. Why rain on someone's parade. She's not dumb. She knows baby will likely poo or sick on it.

Why can't you let her have a nice thing?

How about this cute Peter rabbit number from Vinted?

Don't get the obsession with special coming home outfits

A babygro. That is all babies need or should be wearing for at least the first few months. They just need to be comfortable.

A babygrow. - no suggestions of pattern or design. Comes across snarky (but may not have been intended).

OP said she wanted inspiration and said she’s looking for babygrows. Nothing out there or impractical - just something nice to mark the occasion of bringing home her new baby. If that’s not something you wanted to engage in, there was no need to comment.

I think it's acceptable to discuss/challenge the premise of the question on any thread.

We live in a world where parents feel a lot of pressure to look perfect - is that helpful for new parents?

mondaytosunday · 22/10/2023 07:30

Aww so cute! I'm trying to remember what I put mine in! I think my boy was in a blue onesie with turtles on - no hat as middle of a heat wave. My little girl wore a second hand white one with a collar with a pink edge to it. So tiny! Not really they were both about 10lbs at birth but seemed tiny 👶!

Parker231 · 22/10/2023 07:33

DT’s came home in white and red babygros. I had a pack of a dozen each with a different colour pattern on. They lived in babygros until they were about nine months so wore their coming home outfit many times.

I wouldn't bother. Chances are he'll be sick on it or have a poo explosion requiring an outfit change before you walk out the hospital door. Don't get the obsession with special coming home outfits

This! Never heard of coning home outfit. Wish I had that confidence, I won’t believe I’ll be taking a baby home until it happens

fungibletoken · 22/10/2023 07:44

If you live near a Morrisons, ours had some lovely sets in this week along those exact lines - i.e. the basics bits done really nicely, in blue, yellow etc.

If the outfit is really important to you and you don't yet know baby's size then it may be worth buying a couple of sizes to make sure it fits. Only you know if you can be bothered to deal with the minor faff of returning the other one with a newborn, though 😉

All the best for the end of the pregnancy and a safe arrival!

I took something similar for my first baby.

After three days and nights of no sleep in hospital and a long and exhausting labour, I took one look at something which required fastening up the back and wanted to cry. He came home in an ordinary sleepsuit with poppers and looked gorgeous, and the lovely outfit was wrestled on him by someone else a few days later for photos.

OP I would honestly just pack loads of vests, sleepsuits, and a cute cardi and hat and not put any pressure on yourself. The coming-home outfit isn’t actually as big a thing as you think it will be. By the time you’re discharged you are just desperate to get home to your own bed, your own bathroom and normal food.

I'm so happy for you, I never quite managed a successful "going home" outfit and I've had loads of attempts by now, DC have either been wildly early so caught off guard or didn't fit the ones I'd bought and it was an asda dash 😂

Many congratulations on your beautiful baby boy, all the best for labour 💙

Nothing cuter than a newborn in a plain white baby grow.

To honest all mine have come home in whatever is left in the hospital bag and doubt number 4 will be any different! The hospital will tell you you are getting discharged and you'll likely still be there 8 hours later waiting for the paperwork to be completed so by then any special outfit has either been thrown up on or shat on anyway😂

Whataretheodds · 22/10/2023 08:16

When I read the thread title I was going to suggest a pumpkin suit!

nrrf · 22/10/2023 08:23

I hope you find something lovely!
If you end up getting a little hat just remember to take it off in the car on the way home (didn’t know this with my first!)

PensionPuzzle · 22/10/2023 08:24

Just coming to comment that people sometimes forget about M&S and John Lewis when looking for nice baby clothes (including baby grows!) so either could be well worth a look.

We didn't know DD1s sex so had a lovely pink and blue footless romper from JL to come home (heatwave baby). We were all packed up and about two steps down the corridor when she had a giant meconium poo and we had to ask if we could go back to our bay on the ward to sort her out 😂

suspiciousmums · 22/10/2023 08:25

I’ve gotten all three of my girls going home outfits from Morrisons nutmeg range, they do the most beautiful clothes! I’ve had two prem babies and they also have a tiny baby range so all the beautiful clothes have been small enough to fit my babies which is another plus

PensionPuzzle · 22/10/2023 08:26

And DD2 came back in one of our favourite babygrows from DD1 in anticipation of a similar poo disaster, which to be fair didn't happen in the end. She had plenty of her own outfits at home but once bitten, twice shy and all that.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 22/10/2023 08:30

I would pick something easy to put on in case you are exhausted or find it tricky to dress them (everything about newborns can be terrifying if you haven’t had one before). Jojo had some nice born in 20xx ones and we also had a white one with little grey elephants. The newborn size swamped DD initially though. I also wouldn’t spend too much as you don’t know exactly what size they will be. And they look adorable in pretty much anything. We ended up using one given by a family member that lives far away and couldn’t be with us in person.

happylittlesloth · 22/10/2023 08:32

If you go into hospital to have a baby and you aren't expecting complications you will need to bring clothes for baby. One of these might as well be cute and what you are hoping to take the baby home in.

Isiteverevenreallyover · 22/10/2023 08:34

This thread has made me really broody!

So much this!

After getting through the birth and following complications I was so happy just to get home with us both safe and well.

None of the clothes I had fit, I had to send my mum out for some premature sized clothes and had gone through all the ones she could find by the time we finally made it home. I can't remember what I put her in, but it was likely whatever i had that was clean ablnd it probably didn't fit.

The idea of a special coming home outfit feels really wrong to me. A mixture of naivety, tempting fate and treating the baby like an accessory.

I would just get some nice comfy babygros, and not worry about which ones he wears at what time.

Boozlebammed · 22/10/2023 08:42

Mine both came home in the same outfit, a little knitted suit from Vertbaudet. But French sizing is tiny so size up a size from what you would buy in UK sizes. M&S and Jojo Maman Bebe usually have some lovely suits with matching hats.

maryberryslayers · 22/10/2023 08:46

Mine have both worn Jojo Maman Bebe babygrows and matching hats.

I also have a special blanket to pop over them once strapped in to their car seat which I used with both.

TheBirdintheCave · 22/10/2023 08:51

We bought a fox babygro and hat in newborn size from Jo Jo Maman Bebe but my son was too small for it 😂 He ended up coming home in a plain babygro from La Redoute I think as theirs were the smallest we had. He wore a cardigan and hat and booties that my grandma had knitted over the top 🥰
