I think I might be pregnant 10 weeks pp

I’m 10 weeks pp, I started having sex again pretty soon after which was unprotected but dh did pull out, I then started the pill at 3 weeks pp, & took my first period at 5 weeks pp, I use the flo app & according to it my period is now 8 days late , my last period was the 14th September, I’m not thinking too much of this as maybe my period are just regulating themselves after a baby & the pill could also be the reason.

but I definitely have symptoms exactly like the ones I had when I found out with my baby. The day before I found out I was pregnant I had painful cramping in my left side , last night I had this. Also about a week before I found out I had a random emotional breakdown & last night I was the exact same, this only happened twice in my life, before I found out I was pregnant with dh and last night. Before I found out with dh I also had insomnia for some reason I could not for the life of me switch off , last night I was the EXACT same could not sleep even tho baby sleeps through the night.

I don’t know, I’m convinced. But I suppose this means I would have fell pregnant on the pill? Am I being crazy? I would like to add the first week of using the pill we used condoms to let the pill kick in.

I can’t take a test until tonight which I will, so I’ll update , I am so scared , I would be so disappointed to be honest .

I have been meaning to test for a few days now because I just have a feeling but I’m TOO scared to see those 2 lines pop up.

suppose I’m posting this for support IF I am…

is it likely? My head is all over the place atm

The 3 hour mini pills existed before the newer desogestrel pill (12 hour window) started being manufactured. Not everyone gets on with the desogestrel one so it gives other options. Desogestrel is not 100% at stopping ovulation either.

@MargotBamborough @LylaLee i think mumsnet needs to be tackling women who come on here and deliberately patronise and talk down to other women for sharing their own experiences. I didn’t come on here to be told my own experiences are incorrect, false assumptions made, that basically my GP must think im an idiot. And now to have the cheek to call me uneducated and ill informed when you literally know nothing about me or what I have myself been through in regards to contraception, gynaecology and children. Clearly other Pp’s have also proved that you are not 100% correct in what you’re saying.

Show me the thing I said which was incorrect?

Also, you insist your mum got pregnant despite taking the pill perfectly (on time/without conflicting medication/without gastrointestinal issues). I say that's unlikely.

I was offered the choice and took the 12 hour one in case I forgot. Which I have on occasion! Thankfully you then only need to take 2 normally to be back on track!

NoWordForFluffy · 21/10/2023 15:25

It's NOT less reliable. It creates a hostile environment designed to prevent implantation. It's still over 99% effective when taken correctly.

But it's more difficult to take it correctly. Which makes it less reliable in reality.

Have you got published stats on that?

Statistically, it's 99.9% likely to be untrue.

RandomMess · 21/10/2023 15:32

For some women the pill doesn't work even if taken correctly!

Your chances of getting pregnant without contraception aren't particularly high anyway. Some people (well couples) are seriously "very fertile".

My hormones don't react typically to the combined or mini pill, Mirena coil, HRT. There is a reason I was sterilised.

If you have to take it within a 3 hour window for it to be fully effective then clearly there's a lot more potential for fuck ups.

I suppose technically 0.1% is "some".

@LylaLee incorrect assumptions being the sarcasm you used whilst stating my mom couldn’t possibly remember if she was on antibiotics 20 years ago at the time of conception, making snarky remarks as to the closeness of my relationship with my mother to be discussing contraception. when you were infact wrong in both statements. I don’t understand why you’re so pressed. You state it’s unlikely, it’s not impossible.
as far as telling me my own experiences are incorrect- I mean that in regards to @MargotBamborough .
anyway im finished debating because you clearly refuse to acknowledge anyone else’s opinions or experiences if it disputes your own or your stats.
also as a PP said it’s not fair on OP.
@RandomMess my mom is opting for sterilisation too for this reason.

Yes, potentially. But what are the stats of people getting pregnant on each type of pill?

You take it as snarky if you want.

I was explaining.
(1) you didn't know that antibiotics can negate contraception - many people don't know this
(2) but at the same time you said you knew that this hadn't happened to your mother.
(3) if your mother knew to look out for this, then it would be something she would tell her daughter. You are clearly close enough to talk about her conceptions, so it's not that it's a prudish family that wouldn't talk.
(4) the logical conclusion is thus that your mother didn't know about antibiotic interaction.
(5) if she didn't know about antibiotic interaction, there's a good chance she didn't know about gastrointestinal impacts either.
(6) Conclusion: it was most likely her contraception failed for a standard reason. Not a mysterious one.

I made an incorrect assumption about when your mother conceived and I acknowledged that.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/10/2023 15:37

Yes, potentially. But what are the stats of people getting pregnant on each type of pill?

Well, virtually nil on each type with perfect use.

But what is necessary to achieve "perfect use" varies between the different types.

I knew I couldn't trust myself to be in the "perfect use" group so I got an implant instead.

Did you read the NHS guidance I linked to? It says you can continue to run packs together until you bleed in which case you should stop for 4 days. If you disagree, take it up with the NHS.

Yes, you're right, the pill was designed to have a break and a bleed originally so women would 'trust' it,if I recall correctly. I was certainly told I could run it back to back 30 years ago by a lovely American GP who said it was common place on the States but not so much in the UK. I wouldn't have known had it not been for her.

OP, take a test,it's the only way you'll know as you had unprotected sex.

All2Well · 21/10/2023 16:53

It can definitely happen! My friend became pregnant 5 weeks post partum. One baby in Feb, another in Dec...now they're toddlers everyone things they're twins.

In my family we also have a lot of sibsets born in the same year or 15 months ish apart...including 3 in 15 months (one baby then a set of twins).

TwoBlueFish · 21/10/2023 17:01

It’s possible, my sister and I are 11.5 months apart which means my mum must have got pregnant at about 10 weeks postpartum. She was told you couldn’t get pregnant while breastfeeding 🤦🏻‍♀️. However she wasn’t on the pill and the pill is very effective when used correctly. NHS says you can get pregnant as little as 3 weeks after giving birth.

Groovee · 21/10/2023 17:04

My sister in law and her brother are 10 months apart.

Mary7241 · 21/10/2023 17:55

Also to those saying you don’t ovulate while breastfeeding - not the case. I’ve breast fed for over two years and am currently pregnant (planned) following nearly a year of ovulation testing. My periods came back super regularly around 6 weeks pp

Mariposista · 21/10/2023 18:11

Would it be baad news if you were pregnant OP? I'd personally have loved this - get the baby and toddler phase out the way quicker, but I know not everyone would want this. However it goes - good luck!

Yeah if the 2x childcare doesn't bankrupt you!

SecondUsername4me · 21/10/2023 18:25

That is true. Although a lot have that anyway having them 2/3 years apart. Or twins - blimey! It's such a shame childcare isn't more accessible, given how vital it is. I always alike it in some way to dentist charges - your teeth are part of your body and can make you really ill if they go wrong. Yet treatment for them is crippling, but a broken arm isn't. Same with nurseries - the kids need caring for, educating (as nurseries do) - just as they do when they are rising 5s.

SecondUsername4me · 21/10/2023 18:56

Yeah my second arrived just as dc1 started their 30 free hours at 3yo. Thankfully.

Drttc · 21/10/2023 19:43

My brother and sister are 7.5 months apart! Born in the same year! How that’s possible: Mum got pregnant within first 3 months pp then my sister was born premature at just 6 months gestation. It was very scary but she grew up into a healthy ‘normal’ woman (haha)!

FawnFrenchieMum · 22/10/2023 08:38

@momkoul have you managed to do a test?

momkoul · 02/11/2023 13:41

Hi everyone! Yes, I definitely know it's possible my brothers are 10 months apart...

I took a test the day I posted this and it was a BFN, I then took a test 4 days later and BFN, that would of been a week ago,

Still no sign of period , my last period was September 14th , that was my first period after baby.

New symptoms have arrived, insomnia (which was a first symptom with baby) & also extremely sensitive teeth, there sending me crazy!!! & the biggest obvious pregnancy symptom I have is nausea. The past 2 nights I have woke up out of my sleep with nausea and today I feel nauseous.

I HAVE to be pregnant!!! I will re-test later when I get a test.

Or does anyone know if the pill can cause nausea? Or maybe anemia? As I do have postpartum anemia. Im so scared I don't what I would do. I have every pregnancy symptom

(Also, the last pg test I took, I checked it yesterday (don't know why I still had it) and there was theeee faintest line, could possible be an indent tho.

Just updating for those who asked 🥰
