I think I might be pregnant 10 weeks pp

I’m 10 weeks pp, I started having sex again pretty soon after which was unprotected but dh did pull out, I then started the pill at 3 weeks pp, & took my first period at 5 weeks pp, I use the flo app & according to it my period is now 8 days late , my last period was the 14th September, I’m not thinking too much of this as maybe my period are just regulating themselves after a baby & the pill could also be the reason.

but I definitely have symptoms exactly like the ones I had when I found out with my baby. The day before I found out I was pregnant I had painful cramping in my left side , last night I had this. Also about a week before I found out I had a random emotional breakdown & last night I was the exact same, this only happened twice in my life, before I found out I was pregnant with dh and last night. Before I found out with dh I also had insomnia for some reason I could not for the life of me switch off , last night I was the EXACT same could not sleep even tho baby sleeps through the night.

I don’t know, I’m convinced. But I suppose this means I would have fell pregnant on the pill? Am I being crazy? I would like to add the first week of using the pill we used condoms to let the pill kick in.

I can’t take a test until tonight which I will, so I’ll update , I am so scared , I would be so disappointed to be honest .

I have been meaning to test for a few days now because I just have a feeling but I’m TOO scared to see those 2 lines pop up.

suppose I’m posting this for support IF I am…

is it likely? My head is all over the place atm

@MargotBamborough

well I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree. :)

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:05

@LylaLee well it’s definitely something I wasn’t aware of.

but no, my mom was never on any form of antibiotics at the time she got pregnant or the weeks leading up to it

You know this for certain how? If you didn't know to ask.

Well you can disagree with science if you want to, but nothing I have said on this thread (apart from it being very unlikely that the OP is pregnant) is an opinion.

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:12

@LylaLee because im sat with my mother right now if you’re so curious?😂
@MargotBamborough as i said before my own experiences and plenty others say otherwise. You’re entitled to your own opinions as am I:)

rainbowstardrops · 21/10/2023 14:13

You'll only know (probably) when you take a test.

LylaLee · 21/10/2023 14:14

Incorrect storage (e.g. on a sunny windowsill); Had a dodgy sandwich, plus a runny tummy; was convinced they took it, when actually they didn't (sometimes I'm certain I did my Duolingo, but it turns out that I didn't).
= pill does not work.

There are actual space ships which blow up due to human error. People make mistakes all the time.

It's so, so easy to make a mistake with the pill.

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:16

@LylaLee which I haven’t disputed.

not once have I said ALL women take it consistently, or that ALL women follow the instructions to a T.

So, neither of you knew that antibiotics stop the pill working (because you said you didn't know. And if you're close enough to talk about her conception stories, she sure as hell would have warned you that antibiotics cancel the pill.)

But even so, she remembers that she wasn't prescribed antibiotics 20 years ago, or however long. (She could probably actually check her NHS record).

Lots of people don't know that if you have an upset stomach, then for the rest of that month you use condoms.

But she remembers that she didn't have a runny tummy, in June 1997.

But you seem convinced that your mother was the magical exception who took it perfectly, but beat the odds.

MargotBamborough · 21/10/2023 14:23

@selly29 This is a helpful explanation of how the pill works.

Note that when taken correctly it stops you from ovulating, and that when you have a 7 day break you have a "period-like bleed". Not a period.

Note also the large gap between its effectiveness with perfect use (over 99% and ghr manufacturers are not allowed to say 100%), and its effectiveness with typical use (92%, which is actually quite low).

92% with typical use means 8 out of 100 women having regular sex for a year will get pregnant. Not all of the other 92 would get pregnant even if they used no contraception at all. Some of those women will have fertility problems or may even be menopausal.

The "typical use" figure explains why so many women get pregnant when on the pill.

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:24

@LylaLee why would she randomly warn me antibiotics cancel out the pill when she didn’t take any?
But confused why you would assume 20 years? My brother was born a few weeks ago. My mom is in her 40’s.

I think the point @LylaLee is making is that it is rather odd that you didn't know antibiotics reduce the pill's effectiveness but you apparently do know for sure that your mother wasn't taking antibiotics at the relevant time.

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:30

@MargotBamborough @LylaLee I’m sorry but when did the year 1997 come into this conversation and WHY?
my mom got pregnant with my brother LAST year. She can also look on her NHS record as to what antibiotics she was on LAST YEAR.

quite frankly neither of you know me or my mother and our life is none of your business, I actually don’t need to be explaining our own experiences to either of you when I was giving my own experiences to OP.

I made a wrong assumption about how long ago it was.

But many, many people who have unplanned pregnancies is because of antibiotics. It would be part of contraceptive discussions with your child. You didn't know. So she didn't tell you.

But since she's remembering whether she took antibiotics last year, she is more likely to remember than if it is years ago.

My point still stands. She most likely was in a situation which makes the pill not work (forgetting/medication/runny tummy) than being a medical anomaly.

APocketOfGooseFood · 21/10/2023 14:30

MargotBamborough · 21/10/2023 13:56

Statistically, the most likely explanation is that your mother did not actually take it properly, or that she vomited or took antibiotics which can stop it from working.

There are many, many women who will claim that they got pregnant whilst taking the pill perfectly. But statistically they can't all be in the 0.1%, which suggests that at least some of them are in denial or just don't want to admit that they're rubbish at taking their pill properly or they actually wanted to get pregnant.

I'm sorry you bled for five weeks but going on the pill does not regulate your periods. It stops your periods, because it stops you ovulating. The only reason it appears to "regulate your periods" is because you are taking a pill for three weeks which stops you from bleeding, and then you stop taking it for a week which makes you bleed, and then you take it again for another three weeks etc. It is not a period. It is a completely fake cycle which there is absolutely no need for you to be having. If you're not TTC and you don't mind being on the combined pill, you might as well run your packs together indefinitely and save yourself a ton of money on sanpro.

Edited

There is a very good reason to have a regular withdrawal bleed, and that is to guard against a higher risk of endometrial cancer, which all pre-menopausal women face if they never shed their womb lining. So for all your posturing (and your hectoring tone is superior, unnecessary and unlikely to impress anyone or make them do anything differently, I am afraid), you are, in fact, wrong in your assertion that it’s not necessary to have a withdrawal bleed (or period, which is the usual shorthand even among those of us mere mortals who fully understand how hormonal contraception works).

Some people would fall out with the sun an empty room!

Themselves not the sun 🤦🏼‍♀️

dementedpixie · 21/10/2023 14:34

It is not necessary to have a withdrawal bleed every month and you can run packets together so you have fewer 'periods' per year. It is not a real period and is a withdrawal bleed due to the reduction in hormones. You can also take a shorter break than 7 days; i have heard of 4 days being a good amount to take.

You were the one who started telling your and your mother's life story in this thread.

The only reason I picked up on it was because you were spreading misinformation.

If for whatever reason it is important to you to continue to believe that not all women taking the pill correctly stop ovulating, that taking the pill "regulates your periods", and that women getting pregnant despite taking the pill correctly is actually a thing that happens regularly, knock yourself out.

But it is also important to me to point out that these things are not actually true for the benefit of others who may be reading.

Cuthbertsrevenge · 21/10/2023 14:37

I always wonder whether people who completely derail a thread give a shit about the poor OP when they do it. Go and argue elsewhere FFS.

selly29 · 21/10/2023 14:38

as I said before, regardless if it’s a real bleed or a fake bleed it’s still a bleed. My own experiences do not reflect everyone else’s and everyone has their own views on contraceptive, how it has worked for them etc. i haven’t once stated all women take it correctly etc etc, I stated some people DO take it consistently and HAVE got pregnant. Whatever the reason. I don’t need condescending people @‘ing me correcting me on my own experiences and telling me what we WERE and WERENT doing at the time, making unnecessary assumptions and putting words into my mouth.

dementedpixie · 21/10/2023 14:40

@momkoul I very much doubt you are pregnant but can you come back and tel us what pill you are taking. If you're taking hormonal contraception then that you will not be having a natural cycle and may not fit your flo app.

Taking the pill consistently is only part of taking the pill correctly.

dementedpixie · 21/10/2023 14:45

@MargotBamborough and @selly29 you have both derailed the thread so I doubt the OP will come back
