Did anyone have a predicted big baby... But they weren't?!

Every midwife that feels my tummy says oh, this baby's big!

I had a growth scan last week at 36 + 4 - measured 7lbs 3.

I'm also a bit scared of health complications for baby as they say abdomen circumference is off the charts, 99+% this prompted home glucose tests for me, but they've all come back normal range. I don't know what to expect 🤷‍♀️

Notoriously inaccurate. Measured normally for both. Second was 10lb9 (ouch). Everyone I know who’s been predicted a large baby has ended up with smaller than predicted and smaller than my first who was 8lb13. In fact I think only one had a baby over 8lb.

Dc 2 - 11lbs 2 at 39 weeks, no warning even after a scan to see if she was breech 3 days beforehand. Everyone a bit shocked, including myself. Natural birth, a lot of rehab needed...

Under careful scrutiny with frequent scans for dc3 - elective section, "another big one!" etc: 8lbs 7 at 39 weeks + 2, so really not that big

I really don't think the tech is that accurate tbh, although they are now 13 and 9 so maybe it's better than it used to be

I had regular growth scans and all estimated baby to be big. I had my final scan at 38 weeks and they estimated her to be around 9lbs at that time, she was born at 38+4 and weighed only 5lbs!

Not myself but my mum was told I was going to be massive. All through labour she was told 'oh this baby's bum is huge' they told her over 10 pounds easy

Nope:

I was back to back and they were feeling my knees, I weighed 6 pounds on the dot.

Baby was predicted 8 pounds 4 at 36 weeks. Baby born at 38+6 weighing 7 pounds 12.

I had the opposite. Nobody said a word about baby being large and I birthed a 9lbs 11ozs bqby 😐

Anotheranxiousone · 10/10/2023 12:19

Yes me. Predicted 9.5lbs (for reference I’m 5ft 1 and weighed 7 stone 3 before pregnancy) but came out 10 days later at 7.7lbs!

My bump measured 90th centile throughout the pregnancy, then I had a scan days before my due date and showed measuring >4th centile and was pressured into having an induction for 'growth restriction' (despite my great reluctance that this was the case). He was born on his due date 7lb, 50th centile and I now have absolutely no trust in any of their growth estimates!
