Did anyone have a predicted big baby... But they weren't?!

Every midwife that feels my tummy says oh, this baby's big!

I had a growth scan last week at 36 + 4 - measured 7lbs 3.

I'm also a bit scared of health complications for baby as they say abdomen circumference is off the charts, 99+% this prompted home glucose tests for me, but they've all come back normal range. I don't know what to expect 🤷‍♀️

I was told the night before having dd that she was at least 9 lb.
She was 6 lb 3 and tiny for her first year!

Yep, DD was huge apparently, additional scans, was told I defo had gestational diabetes she was so big (tested, I didn't, so yet more growth scans), under constant 'threat' of CS during labour due to her size etc etc.

When she was born she was bang on average on every measure they give you. She was so average as to be noteworthy in her averageness!

This… I was sent into the consultant on my 34 week scan (I can’t even remember why they gave me an extra one) because of my gigantic baby, he was sure I had GD - they had checked twice - early and around then and I did not… he was horrible though so it stuck with me.

She got stuck on the way out thanks to a ridge in my pelvis and not her gigantic 6.13lb self…

That said her femurs were over the 99th percentile on that scan and she’s now a leggy giant at 7 in her 9-10 clothes so they’ve not slowed down growing yet…

Me. My first DC was 8lb 8 so biggish. When I was pregnant I was told time and time again that DC 2 was going to be a whopper, 10-11lb. Came out 7lb 10.

AliasGrape · 09/10/2023 21:10

Yes - I was having additional scans anyway for other reasons but they told me DD was going to be 99th centile +, she was bang on average at 7lbs.

She did go up the centiles and has been just above the 90th since around 7 or 8 months though, for both height and weight, but has stayed on that curve consistently since then and is now 3.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/10/2023 21:12

Yes, they said DS would be 10lbs ish but he was 7.5lbs. I had the diabetes tests too but they came back fine. He was 15 bloody days late too (they wouldn’t induce me on a Sunday) so would have been even smaller if he’d come on time. He has always had a massive head though!

StorminanDcup · 09/10/2023 21:13

My first measured 99% for tummy and head the whole of 3rd trimester. I was under consultancy and they insisted on regular scanning due to concerns over size.
Baby was 8.11 so a decent size but wouldn’t be considered as huge or unusual!

jelly79 · 09/10/2023 21:15

Yes was measuring big throughout. Was recommended an induction at 39 weeks as would be 10lbs and likely to be a section if I waited longer.
The induction took 6 days and he was born day before due date at 8lbs 6 x

anybloodyname · 09/10/2023 21:20

They told my daughter she was having a very big baby boy .. possible induction

I told her that was wrong what do I know , I'm a nurse and have had 4 of the nuggets of my own

She went into labour naturally and delivered a beautiful dainty 6lb girl

LifeIsHardAlways · 09/10/2023 21:23

Yep my son was meant to be 10lbs+ and he was 7.5lbs 😂

Philandbill · 09/10/2023 21:25

Scan at 41 weeks. Told by confident sonographer baby would be at least 10lbs 4oz. Baby born less than 48 hrs later weighing 8lb 4oz. Showed how rubbish estimating weight is. When I had second DD ignored all scan weight info. DD2 weighed 8lb 4oz too. It's obviously the weight that I grow babies to 😀

Cismyfatarse · 09/10/2023 21:28

The opposite. Monitored for a tiny baby in only a drop of fluid. He came out surfing a wave at 8.7lbs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2023 21:40

Yes was told all
Preg I was having a big baby

Originally they got dates wrong as big

But a was ivf I knew excatly when implanted and preg

9/10lb I was told

Mini blondes was 7.3

Very glad wasn't 10

Hard enough getting her out. Imagine if 3lbs bigger

Shudders

Fizbosshoes · 09/10/2023 21:41

I'm really short and fairly slim. Through pregnancy I was measuring big and they said I might have to be induced. I can't remember what happened to change that but DD was born naturally at 40+3 and she was 7lb 12.

Mamabear345 · 09/10/2023 21:43

Was told baby was in the 87th percentile repeatedly by the NHS, and that she was going to be 9.5 lbs.
private scans showed 50th percentile.
i just ignored them all.. baby arrived 40+1 and weighed 7lbs 11oz

annlee3817 · 09/10/2023 21:45

Yes comments from the midwives on the induction ward that she would be big as my large my bump felt all baby. Growth scan predicted her to be 8lbs I think at 38 weeks, she was born at 39+5 weighing 7lbs 10. They'd been predicting a 9lber

On the flip side of that my friend was told she her DD would be 8lbs and she was 10lbs 4oz!

Passthecake30 · 09/10/2023 21:45

I was told I’d have a big one, but he just had a big head!😬 8lb 12, so not tiny but not gigantic

110APiccadilly · 09/10/2023 21:45

I had a predicted normal size baby who came out at well under 5lb at 38 weeks!

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 09/10/2023 21:48

My second and third were over 9lb and all the way through I was told my fourth would be well over 10lb. He was born at 39 weeks and was 8lb 4.

MercurialMargot · 09/10/2023 21:52

Oh I was told DD was tiny! Gosh we must continually scan you and tell you how subpar your placenta must be. You aren't nourishing that baby properly. We will monitor.

Ten bloody pounds.

anonimoxyz · 09/10/2023 21:54

Yep. They told me my last would be over 9lbs at a growth scan a few days before she was born and she was 5lbs13

ilovethecoldsideofapillow · 09/10/2023 21:54

37 weeks baby was weighing at 7lbs 4. I was induced at 40 weeks and birthed a 10lbs toddler. I'm 5ft 2 so that was an interesting labour.

OfMark87 · 09/10/2023 22:03

Yes - told my DS was going to be massive, was weighing 6lbs 9oz at 34 weeks.
Was having a c section anyway and he was born at 39 weeks and was 7lbs 14oz so pretty average 😂

Waves93 · 09/10/2023 22:59

They told me my daughter was going to be a big baby, told me to restrict calories/ not put on any more weight, so I basically was put on a diet!

estimated around 7- 8lbs at 36 week scan I had her a week later and she was 4lbs 13oz 🤦🏼‍♀️ felt awful like I'd starved her 🤣 she was perfectly healthy tho and is now an 8 year old drama queen 👸🏼

BEO · 10/10/2023 06:06

At what week do they start measuring your baby/bump?
