Pregnant at 38 - how common?

It hasn't happened yet, just a thought. I know lots of people wait these days but would it be considered fairly normal or would I be an 'older mum' surrounded by much younger mums? I feel like statistics and circumstances and things cloud my judgement and now I can't figure out if it's normal or not...

My 10 closest friends are all 35-37 and so far those who have had children had them at:
29
31
32 (2nd child)
34 (2nd child)
34
35
37

And one is pregnant at 36. I was 34 as well. There may well be more children to come too, mid-late 30s would be seen as normal here.

It's completely normal and natural. Before contraception women often had babies in their 40s, they started younger and had bigger families that went right up up menopause. Where I live 1st or 2nd baby in late 30s/early 40s is very common and it is more more unusual to come across a mum who had their kids in their 20s. There's no right or wrong age, younger or older, both are perfectly normal and fine, it's just what's right for you.

In my NCT class, in Hampshire, as a group, we were 34, 37, 41, 41, 42, 45.

So you certainly won't be unusual. Few people with careers can afford to have babies any earlier. Good luck xx

38 years old to be pregnant is very common indeed and not old. I am pregnant at 42 and really wish I was 38!! 😂

If you're worried about feeling out of place, don't. I moved back to my hometown where it's more usual to have kids in your twenties than thirties and as a result, all the older mums seem to accidentally find each other, probably because we are less usual and have basic things in common - worked for a long time establishing a professional career, got married later than most, had kids close together because time was running out 😅

Having said that, at the school gates it's not a divide between old and young, it's between social and not. The mums that usually join in the chat are between 25 and 45.

Very normal. I’m about to have my second at 39 and every time I go for an appoint most of the other pregnant women look my age - quite a few look older.
