Is it your first pregnancy?
It states on NHS website that if it’s your first baby you may not feel anything until up to 24 weeks.

TheShellBeach · 27/09/2023 14:39

Assuming it's your first pregnancy, that's completely normal.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 27/09/2023 14:42

Ask where your placenta is at 20 week scan. Especially if it is anterior it's really common not to feel anything until much later, and even then much reduced as its cushioning it.

PassMeTheCookies · 27/09/2023 15:05

I didn't feel DS in my first pregnancy until 24 weeks and that was one kick. I didn't feel him again until 26 weeks.

With DD in my second pregnancy, it was around 22 weeks when I felt her.

Limes2021 · 27/09/2023 15:27

Yes its my first

Baby is still really tiny, very common not to feel anything yet. If you haven’t felt anything by 24 weeks then mention it to your midwife. Placenta position and also baby’s position can affect it a lot. Even when you do start to feel movement it’s very normal not to feel regular or even daily movement until 28 weeks.

DuploTrain · 27/09/2023 15:47

I didn’t feel anything till 22 weeks with my first.

As pp said, it’s a good idea to ask where your placenta is when you have your 20 week scan. If it’s anterior (at the front) it makes it harder to feel movements until later on. Have you got your scan coming up soon?

Glitterb · 27/09/2023 16:08

I didn’t feel anything really until I was 23/24 weeks, except slight things that could easily be mistaken for tummy movements. I also had an anterior placenta which made it more difficult. I actually booked a private scan at 18 weeks because I was worried which is when I was told about the placenta positioning. On your next midwife appointment, definitely mention it.

KinderCat · 27/09/2023 17:04

To echo what others have said (as I could have written this exact post earlier in my pregnancy), it can be completely normal. At your point I felt very little, a feeling a but like gas was all I had but nothing close to what people described.

I didn't feel much till around 24-26 weeks. I also had a posterior placenta so no reason I shouldn't have other than she was positioned further back and clearly a bit gentle. All okay now and movements picked up.

I did end checking with midwife and triage for peace of mind as we had a lot of issues TTC. They were reassuring bit also told me it would only be a worry if nothing by 28 weeks.

It is a horrible worry OP so you have my sympathy x

All the best with it.
Wishing you well!

DuploTrain · 28/09/2023 14:38

Good luck, hopefully you’ll be more reassured after the scan.

TheShellBeach · 03/10/2023 11:53

Did you have your scan? I've been thinking of you.

Pregnancy always seems to be one worry after another, doesn't it?
I'm glad you saw the heartbeat though.

Could be several more weeks and totally normal.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 05/10/2023 12:00

@Limes2021 I had my first baby in Feb. I didn't feel her move until around 22/23weeks. I remember distinctly that my partner felt her move on October 8th. I'm sure baby will be wiggling around and keeping you awake in no time!

TheShellBeach · 15/10/2023 22:36

Hi OP. Have you felt your baby moving yet?

mrsed1987 · 15/10/2023 22:57

I was 22 weeks with my 1st before I felt anything. 14 weeks with my second so will be interested to see when I feel it this time (bit heavier also lol)

Limes2021 · 16/10/2023 18:51

Only some flutters felt three times, wasn’t even sure it was movement or not, 23 weeks today so not sure if anything wrong, starting to worry now

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 16/10/2023 18:58

Honestly you're fine. Your baby is still very small and fluttering is how women generally describe the first movements.

WithOneLook · 16/10/2023 19:00

I was almost 23 weeks before I felt my daughter move and it was a 'hmm that's different I wonder if that was her' I was in the bath at the time. Happened again a few days later and I wondered if I imagined it. Didn't feel really regular movements that I was sure of what was until about 26 weeks. I did have an anterior placenta.

Limes2021 · 16/10/2023 19:50

I have posterior placenta. Just makes me worried something is wrong, but 20 weeks scan was fine

Did you realise how tiny your baby still is, though?
6 inches long and 10 ounces in weight at 20 weeks.
