Baby is still pretty small, can't kick hugely hard and you don't have feeling in most of your internal organs. There's a lot of places with no receptors. So if baby is kicking somewhere internally you can't feel, or if there is cushioning between the place baby is and where you can feel (e.g. placenta or body fat if you carry a bit extra around the stomach) then it will feel much gentler or not feel it at all.

I only felt baby when I was lying down focussing on it until mid-20 weeks. Now at 34 you can see baby rolling around even when I'm stood up 😅. But my baby is right out at the front, and I lost a lot of weight due to morning sickness. I'm only 1.5kg heavier than pre-pregnancy and my baby is over 3kg, never mind the placenta, amniotic fluid, blood volume etc. I have much less padding cushioning it than I would have done 😅
