Anyone here in a similar position? I'm feeling a bit of an odd one out on forums now where I don't feel pregnant pregnant and I don't feel infertile infertile, and thought I'd see if others were in the same, tentative situation. I don't feel like I'm ready to join the main May 2024 gang until I'm more confident this will continue.

I'm only 4 weeks 5 days :/

@thislittlebird I am 15 weeks today, and all my clothes still fit perfectly.
It helps that most were bought when I was a bit heavier, and then I lost 3kg since I got pregnant. So even jeans are absolutely fine, if a bit warm (as it is still summer temps here!)

The only exercise I do is walk to work. 25 minutes downhill! But not if its too hot, as that would cause my blood pressure to drop and I dont need to pass out on the way to work! 😂

IVFAlone · 12/10/2023 13:00

@Doughnut89 - I do have therapy every week but it's so hard talking to someone that hasn't been through the process of IVF or even having a child! I feel a little bit stupid coming on here with every little problem but I take comfort in knowing if I could offer someone reassurance on here, I would so hopefully others feel the same. x

KG1244 · 12/10/2023 13:29

@IVFAlone Don’t ever feel stupid. It’s a really tough process and we’re all here to support one another ❤️

CazzyM1983 · 12/10/2023 14:31

Dating scan done! Wow it was such a better experience than my 7 week one with clinic. Baby doing somersaults and had hiccups! I was like ummm is that seizures or hiccups 🤦‍♀️ typical me thinking the worst lol
Everything looking good! Such a relief and such a magical experience 🩷 I was mesmerised watching the screen while they did their measurements and checks.
Feel like a proper proud mum!
im defo going to have to get a private scan done. I can’t wait til December to see the little squidge again! that’s so far away!
wow it feels really real now. I can’t quite believe it!

@IVFAlone don‘t feel stupid. Ivf is brutal and I don’t care what anyone says, if you haven’t had it then you have no idea.
Don’t feel silly for writing on here. We are all here to help each other! None of us know what we are doing, we are all stressing and we all have had our arses kicked and there really is no proper support for ivf mamas. It’s lonely and hard! We have to all stick together! Sending you big hugs xxx

CazzyM1983 · 12/10/2023 14:41

@IVFAlone are you able to change your therapist? I think it’s really important you have one you feel understands you?

I had a few therapists and I struggled for a while to find one that got me and I felt comfortable with.
Did you have ivf thru nhs or private? Our clinic had a counsellor we can access? Could you contact your clinic or ivf services to ask for a counsellor that knows about fertility stuff?

TheBirdintheCave · 12/10/2023 14:51

@CazzyM1983 Hooray! Congrats on having a wonderful scan :D

I just got my booking in appointment and I'll be 11+4. 11+4! Just ridiculous.

Misty84 · 12/10/2023 14:59

@CazzyM1983 Congrats on a successful scan!
I’m also going to get a private scan as there’s no way I can wait 2 whole months between NHS ones!!!😱 We’ll get one at 16 weeks and find out the gender at that point, sooo excited!

@IVFAlone Sounds like you may need a different therapist ❤️

Doughnut89 · 12/10/2023 20:09

@IVFAlone definitely don’t feel stupid. It is a really scary process. Like @CazzyM1983 and @Misty84 suggested, maybe you should try and find another therapist? I also had a couple of therapists until I found one who really suited me and has helped a lot. She hasn’t been through IVF but she does have children so she understands pregnancy desks etc. But I just find her techniques to help me reassure myself really work.

@CazzyM1983 thats wonderful news on your dating scan 😊 it’s such an incredible feeling when you see them move isn’t it?

I actually have two scans within the next month 😂 on the 24th Oct and one on the 8th Nov so I’m definitely going to get lots of opportunities to see the baby

Jpos · 12/10/2023 20:37

I'm a bit behind all really, but the updates are reassuring and will guide me as I get there - hopefully! 7 wk scan on Tuesday and really cannot wait just to have some confirmation of what's going on inside to check things are ok. Still testing positive so just keeping my fingers crossed all looks good, but reckon I'll be counting down the days til the next one too! It is so hard with the effort gone through by us all to get to this point, and I've never got this far so feeling positive. Keep sharing, never feel daft, there's most likely a few of us who are either feeling it have felt the same xx

ASGIRC · 12/10/2023 20:42

@Jpos just putting it out there, your life will now be a permanent countdown until the next scan! LOL
Your viability scan, then your 12 week scan, then the gender scan, then the 20 week scan...

And thats if you dont book any private ones in the meantime!

@IVFAlone dont feel stupid! Everyone has doubts, and it is nice to get some reassurance from other people feeling the same!

Jpos · 12/10/2023 21:01

@ASGIRC yes, I can see this will be me 😁 want to try to enjoy it along the way, but not believing it yet. 🤷🤞

ASGIRC · 12/10/2023 21:09

@Jpos not gonna lie, not really enjoying it yet... Not in an anxiety way, but with the symptoms as well... I just don't feel ME.
They have eased a bit in the second T, which is nice (I have even been able to cook again, which I hadn't done since week 6 or 7!), but I'm kinda wishing my life away 🤣 I just want the next scan, then the next one, then the next one, etc, here NOW. And then baby! (though I am absolutely terrified of giving birth, but that's for another time)

But time does drag less after the 7 week scan. It doesn't go FAST, but it drags less! :)

CazzyM1983 · 12/10/2023 21:42

@ASGIRC im defo not enjoying it yet. Today I was randomly violently sick right before my scan. I was like, oh yey, another thing lol.

i know what you mean by wishing ur life away. Hadn’t thought of it like that but that’s exactly what I’m doing 😂

ASGIRC · 12/10/2023 21:48

@CazzyM1983 I have my gender scan next Friday. I wish tomorrow was next Friday! And then it's like 5 or 6 weeks until my 20 week anatomy one, with a midwife appointment in between.

I never thought I would enjoy pregnancy.
But I also never thought it would be... This! You know what I mean?

Obviously, I'm really happy that I'm pregnant and that it seems to be going well so far, but at the same time, 9 months is still a long time! 🤣🤣
Less than 6 to go for me, and that's what I'm focusing on!! 16 weeks, here I come!

I'm glad your scan went well!!! Another milestone ticked!!

thislittlebird · 13/10/2023 10:02

@ASGIRC interesting, how have you lost weight since pregnancy? I lost weight between Feb and July, about 6 or 6.5kg. I've already gained a few pounds but I have been eating very often, my main symptom has been excessive hunger. I'm not moving enough this week really. I felt unwell for a couple of days and then autumn kicked and I've stayed home. Need to try to do something today.

I also hate wishing my life away, I don't have enough of it left to be doing that!

@CazzyM1983 glad to hear the dating scan went well! Did they change your EDD?

@Misty84 @TheBirdintheCave so 13/14 weeks by the sound of it for tight clothes. I wonder how height and shape impacts things, I'm short at 5'1.

Did not enjoy waking up at 4.50am feeling sick this morning. I'm not being sick so far, just feeling sick and being very hungry most days.

TheBirdintheCave · 13/10/2023 10:08

I'm 5'3" so not much taller than you and was a size six before I had my son. RIP 25" waist 😅

Misty84 · 13/10/2023 10:10

@thislittlebird Im 5’10! 🙃

@ASGIRC I agree that time drags slightly less after the first scan!

ASGIRC · 13/10/2023 10:13

@thislittlebird my main symptom was lack of appetite and food aversions! So I would sit there.... hungry... not being able to eat anything, because nothing sounded nice, and most things made me gag.

Obviously, I ate, but not a lot. I couldnt even think about cooking or eating leftovers!

This has eased a bit now. I still have a lack of appetite, but most of the food aversions are gone. So finding something to eat is easier. But I just dont feel like eating much of anything...

I love food, when Im a "normal" person! 😂All I do is think about my next meal! This has not been true for the past 3 months...

So I lost weight, and while I have stopped losing, I have maintained it.

And I agree with the wishing the life away! I also dont have enough of it left to be wishing it away!!! 😂😂

ASGIRC · 13/10/2023 10:16

TheBirdintheCave · 13/10/2023 10:08

I'm 5'3" so not much taller than you and was a size six before I had my son. RIP 25" waist 😅

Oh man!!!! how old were you?

I havent been a size 6 since my early 20s and I decided to quit smoking... and then substituted fags for FOOD! LOL

I am 5 2", currently between a size 10 and a size 12. Still wearing all my normal clothes comfortably.

thislittlebird · 13/10/2023 10:24

@TheBirdintheCave oh god, my waist was never that small so I've got no chance of having one after this! I've always been a size 10 but more like a 28/30 inch waist, not much definition in my torso! I've struggled with my weight a lot more since I hit very late 30s, in my 20s/most of 30s I was pretty stable, then between IVF, steroids and ageing I gained quite a bit and that's why I lost 6kg this year.

@Misty84 my friend who is your height was barely showing! People didn't even realise she was pregnant, and she was very, very slim, I have no idea where the baby hid.

@ASGIRC ok, that makes sense if you had aversions. Mine has been the opposite which is annoying after I spent some time losing weight this year and now I all I want to do is eat every hour. Going to do a low impact workout to make myself feel better about my morning croissant!

OP posts:
Misty84 · 13/10/2023 10:32

@thislittlebird I was a size 10/12 for most of my adult life but 35+ I’m size 14. Yeah I’m a bit shocked that already showing a bit. It’s not noticeable to anyone if I wear the right clothes. It just made anything that buttoned up at the waist (jeans/trousers) very uncomfortable!

Losing 6kg was incredible, well done!

My appetite is also enormous during this pregnancy 🤭

ASGIRC · 13/10/2023 10:32

@thislittlebird I had also been losing weight prior to pregnancy.

I put A LOT of weight on during lockdowns, as all I would do is eat and drink and not move!

So the past 2 years Ive been steadily losing it. Was also trying to lose as much as possible before IVF. But then the big loss happened after pregnancy.
Now I am hoping to not gain TOO much.

Low impact workout sounds like a great plan! And enjoy your croissant! you DO need to eat!!! 😊

KG1244 · 13/10/2023 11:24

So I haven’t actually gained any weight yet but the progesterone has made me very bloated so the majority of my clothes don’t fit. I don’t feel mentally ready to buy maternity clothes just yet so I’m going to try and just wear leggings for the next couple of weeks

thislittlebird · 13/10/2023 11:48

@Misty84 I was so pleased I'd lost the weight, but not loving how much I'm likely to gain during this if I keep eating tons! I've been a 12 in bottoms the last couple of years, can't remember if my regular jeans are a 10 but I'd guess 12, and that was with a stone in weight gained and lost. It's weird and i think it's a short person thing, but I put on weight but it doesn't increase my dress size much at all, but I do look fatter. It also seems to all go round my back and torso which I hate.

That's annoying about buttons because I'm very much a trousers/jeans woman, will see how it goes. I have some casual, cuffed joggers (not proper trackie bottoms!) that might stretch well.

@ASGIRC I weirdly lost weight in lockdown because I wasn't snacking in the office all day, seem to eat less at home, but most people say they gained. I felt like I needed to lose some for my own mental health/body image and in case my health was worse at a higher weight. And it probably was tbh, I have familial high cholesterol so do need to watch my food somewhat. Also had a diabetes scare after my indulgent birthday holiday, both my sisters are type 2 diabetic or pre-diabetic (they're a decade older).

I just did my workout, very happy I did it! It was fine, actually. I tried a pregnancy one a couple of weeks ago and it was boring. This one was good and didn't feel too strenuous at all, enjoyed the stretching at the end too. I used the same series of workouts when I was losing weight and I'm pleased they have low impact ones.

Don't worry, I'm definitely eating!!! I always have a good appetite but it's ridiculous at the moment. I eat and the I'm hungry right after. I'm trying to do little and often some days. Will go for a walk to the shop and post box soon, so at least I'm walking today!

@KG1244 how far along are you now?

OP posts:
KG1244 · 13/10/2023 11:58

@thislittlebird I’m 9+6. I think the only reason I haven’t gained weight is because I’ve been 🤢quite a lot
