Is anyone having the covid booster?

I've had all of the previous covid vaccines/boosters and now have had a text
From my GP that I am entitled to the new covid booster.

I'm not an anti vaxxer at all and have already had my flu vaccine this pregnancy but for
Some reason I feel uneasy about having the covid one.

What are peoples general thoughts on having the jab during pregnancy? I'm 16 weeks.

I had the covid booster In my first pregnancy, waiting to hear if I’ll get it this pregnancy.

With my first, I was a little paranoid and wanted to wait until I was 24 weeks but my cardiologist and pregnancy consultant reminded me that I was getting it due to now knowing how unwell I’d be with covid and encouraged me to get it sooner. I got it at 19 weeks and everything was fine. I wasn’t unwell and my baby was completely fine. Sadly I got covid when my little one was 2 weeks old but she didn’t catch it and was okay.

im not as far along this time but will accept it when it’s offered.

Personally no - and I've refused all offers.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer by any means and get all that I'm entitled to, but the covid. I had the first two and having previously never had any period or fertility issues, I found it very strange that straight after the second booster I had no periods for 4 months and once they did finally come back and I started TTC, I miscarried. And then had a molar pregnancy.

I'm not saying they're definitely related, it could all just be co-incidental as after all, most women suffer with some kind of fertility issues as some point in their life - but it's certainly put me off the covid vaccine and whenever I have been offered it during this pregnancy I have declined and explained why and every midwife I've seen has just said "ok, that's fine".

Not a risk I want to take, personally.

I felt the same when I was pregnant with my second, I was a little anxious about it but after getting a lot of advice and reading on the NHS website I felt much better about having it than not - the risk of becoming seriously unwell if I caught it and potentially harming the baby was enough for me to go ahead and have it. Everything was absolutely fine after but of course you must trust your gut and do what you feel is best for you x

CrispAppleStrudels · 18/09/2023 08:17

Had it with my first pregnancy in 2021, planning on getting it with this pregnancy as well. Especially as we've had family members who have just tested positive so it certainly seems like it is doing the rounds again.

TheBirdintheCave · 18/09/2023 08:26

We had Covid the month before I got pregnant with this one so I'm not going to bother for now as, hopefully, we currently have antibodies to the new variant.

Growlybear83 · 18/09/2023 08:40

I'm having mine this afternoon. I know so many people who are getting really ill from COVID recently. I've also noticed a lot more people wearing masks in the supermarket etc in the last couple of weeks.

I had two Covid vaccines in my last pregnancy, and everything was fine. I did really research but was really worried about the research that was coming out at the time about Covid increasing the risk of placental problems, so went ahead.

This time around I've had Covid already during the pregnancy, so I'm guessing I have some antibodies. Which is lucky as I haven't been offered the booster yet.

Following as currently pregnant and weighing it up.

Definitely not an anti-Vaxxer, had all the other covid jabs, will get the flu jab and had the whooping cough jab.

I’ve also never had covid despite DH getting it twice so might take my chances

ThomasinaLivesHere · 18/09/2023 10:01

I had the two covid jabs before and never had issues but I think I’m just getting the whooping cough and flu vaccine during pregnancy.

Phos · 18/09/2023 10:03

No. I don't know if I'll even bother with the flu jab - I never had one until I was 31 (offered when I was pregnant) and I'd never got flu before despite working in London and riding the germ factory each day.

I'm not an anti vaxxer at all but I won't just have them unless I think they're absolutely necessary. I only had the covid one in the first place because I wanted to go on holiday.

Iamnotastick · 18/09/2023 10:26

I had my booster last Autumn and dont think I qualify for the next round.

But one thing that did give me pause is i recently had to have an ECG and on related notes it listed my covid jab history. I wonder why thats relevant?

redteapot · 18/09/2023 10:32

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and have just booked my booster for Wednesday. I had Covid in early pregnancy so I'm probably ok with the antibodies for a while but both times I've had Covid previously it has really wiped me out, so I'd rather avoid being that ill when I have a newborn to look after if I have chance to.

I also wonder why every time I have an ante-natal clinic appointment, when they're doing the blood pressure, weight checks etc - they ask if I've had my whooping cough and then ask how many covid jabs I've had in total. Why would the amount I've had be notable information? I find it a really odd question and wonder the reason behind it....

Ttcmumma · 18/09/2023 20:37

@Iamnotastick there has been a rise in unknown heart attack rates since the covid jabs. People who didn't have a history of heart issues, young people etc. May just be a coincidence they don't have enough evidence yet. A youtuber I've watched for years had a heart attack in January, he's 27 with no previous heart issues. Only happened after vaccination. Tho that being said, didn't the wrestler bray wyatt die of heart related covid (not booster, actual covid) issues at only 36. Maybe they want to see the relevance of heart issues with and without covid vaccinations?

Un7breakable · 18/09/2023 22:03

I'm getting it. Everything I've read suggests it's safe.

PickledScrump · 19/09/2023 08:37

Absolutely not. I had my second in the peak of all the main covid restrictions and was constantly told there was no increased risk to me or baby then. Now pregnant with my third and this time there’s no masks or testing or any precautions, midwives have said there’s no longer advice for pregnant women to get any boosters anymore. I’m not anti vax at all, I’ve had the whooping cough vaccine already, but I really don’t think the covid booster is necessary, effective or fully tested yet.

Tippexy · 20/09/2023 16:48

I also know someone who works in the Pfizer lab and she said don't ever get it in pregnancy, there was no testing or evidence that it was safe before it was widely advertised as being the thing to do in pregnancy.

This is utter bullshit. No vaccine or medicines are trialled on pregnant women, for obvious reasons. What a surprise that the scaremongering posts are back again.

Tippexy · 20/09/2023 16:50

I really don’t think the covid booster is necessary, effective or fully tested yet.

Tell me you know literally nothing about science or medical trials without telling me you know literally nothing about science or medical trials. I recommend you read the book ‘Vaxxers.’

Nelbert19 · 20/09/2023 16:57

I’m a medical consultant and had my covid vax last week at 17 weeks pregnant.

I mention my job just in case anyone worries medical professionals are keeping vaccine risks secret (Why on earth would we do that??)

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 20/09/2023 17:06

I had my first and second covid vaccines at 12 and 20 weeks pregnant. Baby was fine and as a toddler isn’t showing anything that we would seek a referral for.

morelippy · 20/09/2023 17:31

I'm not eligible but if I was I would have it. I think need immunity is important to keep it under control

PercytheParkKeepershedgehog · 20/09/2023 17:46

Well I currently have covid and I would not fucking recommend catching it. This variant is awful. I don’t think I have a particularly bad case because I don’t have any respiratory symptoms but fuck me the fatigue and muscle pain is something else. I have basically spent 3 days lying down feeling too weak to do anything but scroll mumsnet. I haven’t even had the energy to make myself proper lunches (partner has been feeding us in the evenings) and have lived off fruit and yogurts. Feeling like this while heavily pregnant or with a newborn to look after would be doubly hellish so vote get the vaccine OP.
And yes, I had all my vaccines when they were been offered/requires so may have been hit harder if I had refused those too.

jolaylasofia · 20/09/2023 17:56

i had first vaccine a month before conceiving and 2nd and booster during pregnancy. since had covid twice. baby had it at 4 months and didn't even have a temperature- just tested positive

RomaniIteDomum · 20/09/2023 17:56

37 weeks here and absolutely not having it as I am one of those women who had unexpected period changes following vaccination (various problems, including going from a 28 day cycle to a 34 day one)

I'm not an anti-Vaxxer but if something affects my body in a way it's not supposed to then I'm going to avoid it in future.
