One fallopian tube. How long did it take you to conceive?

I'm trying to decide when enough is enough of unsuccessfully trying to conceive naturally. Trying for approx 1 year and half (with laparoscopy in between)

I have one blocked fallopian tube with adhesions (No hydrosalpinx) and one open healthy tube.

Anyone in a similar situation - how long did it take you to conceive naturally if you did?

My sister in law lost her fallopian tube recently and is now trying again so while i don't know the answer I'm curious what responses you get

lavenderz · 12/09/2023 01:16

@NatMoz

Sorry to hear about your sister in law.

Hopefully others will come along and give us an idea! 😊

I've got 1 tube, stage 4 endo, and wonky ovaries due to endo adhesions and we had to have been trying for a year before being referred for IVF as had been told our chances were low for conceiving naturally, we tried! Our daughter is snoozing away happily beside me just now 💖 I would say a year as that's what our healthboard criteria is before they offer fertility support

MrsApplepants · 12/09/2023 04:37

I have only one ovary and one fallopian tube. Got pregnant first time trying. So a positive test 3 weeks later and baby girl 8 months or so after that! Hope that helps x

One fallopian tube here plus one dodgy ovary on same side which only occasionally threw out eggs. After a year of trying to conceive naturally, did IVF x 4 which resulted in 2 positive pregnancy tests.

I'm not sure you'll want my answer given your journey, but 2 months each time. Tube removed after an ectopic pregnancy.

ilikeeggs · 12/09/2023 06:25

6 months for me after losing a tube due to an ectopic pregnancy.

I have one fallopean tube (had one removed due to ectopic pregnancy)
I fell pregnant the month I stopped contraception.

Then fell pregnant again once I had stopped breastfeeding ds1 :)

Thank you - I am taking much longer then. I think it is looking like I'll be trying ivf next, I might see out the end of this year but I'm not holding much hope

18 months for a friend of mine. She was just about to start IVF when she fell, had even picked up her meds and everything.. don't give up hope!

poorbuthappy · 12/09/2023 10:49

6 months. And it was twins.

Spookymormonhelldream · 12/09/2023 11:18

6 months for the first pregnancy. I have one functioning ovary and one that was damaged by a cyst wrapped around it, then even more by the surgery to remove that cyst. Totally shrunken and useless. Anyway I now have 2 DCs 😊

zazasabore · 12/09/2023 11:22

After the birth of my first two children had an ectopic pregnancy - had one ovary and one fallopian tube removed. Had 5 more children including twins.

Coolblur · 12/09/2023 11:32

I lost one tube due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Conceived DS without assistance around 7 months later, though we weren't trying for some of that due to me recovering from surgery.
Prior to the ectopic I'd had a missed miscarriage which in hindsight may well have been an ectopic too.
It took 3 years to get to the point of successful pregnancy. So although I'll never know, I think losing that tube actually helped me to successfully have a child.

Is there treatment you could have on the issues that may help improve things?

MrsScotland · 12/09/2023 12:07

I haven't experienced this but just wanted to ask, have you spoken to your GP already? I can't remember exactly how long it took for my fertility referral appointment to come through but it was 4-6 months. Then I had some tests and had an IVF initial appointment. The fertility nurse then said it would be at least a 7 month waiting list (once I'd lost 2 stone). I actually conceived naturally two months after that appointment.

Just wanted to say it would be worth 'getting in the system' if you think you might need help next year, and in the meantime, keep trying and I hope it works out for you.

Also, if you haven't tried Preseed, it might be worth a go? We conceived on our second cycle of using it.

Same situation here, one working tube, stage 4 endo, several large fibroids, and it took over 2 years with a laparoscopy in between. After the surgery itself, it took us around 4 months (but there were additional 3 months when we couldn't TTC right after the surgery).

Lots of good luck to you OP! Flowers

Ttcmumma · 12/09/2023 14:39

My friend has one tube and fell pregnant twice, on the pill, without trying. I don't think it necessarily causes fertility issues, it may be something else stopping you or just bad luck that it's taking a while! Don't give up x

OnAir · 12/09/2023 14:43

4 months the first and second time, both unfortunately ended in losses then a year and a half after that I fell pregnant the third time. I'm now in my third trimester.

wooliemam · 12/09/2023 14:45

Hello; I had an ectopic sept 2020. Found out I was pregnant first week of December 2020.

My remaining tube was also clubbed so they were very surprised I fell pregnant. And when I had my first early scan, my ovary from the tubeless side was where the egg had come from! So it travelled to my remaining tube. Bodies are amazing really.

lavenderz · 13/09/2023 00:31

Thank you everyone - I am wondering now if there is potentially something else going on ie. Lack of progesterone, vitamin d or my thyroid?? Are these likely to be culprits ?

When I had two tubes it took me 5 cycles to conceive (conceived the first cycle I used the digital OPK which told me my high fertility days before the LH surge). That pregnancy was ectopic and I lost my right tube but kept both ovaries. This was 11 months ago.

I conceived again in April on the second cycle of trying with just the one tube which was a big surprise. That pregnancy was in the uterus (had a scan at 5 + 2 when I started bleeding before my planned scan at 5+4 to check it wasn't another ectopic). Unfortunately the bleeding was a miscarriage.

We're now TTC again and at the start of the TWW of cycle 3.

Mamadothehump · 13/09/2023 09:17

1 tube following a ruptured ectopic. Drunkenly forgot to use a condom ONCE (we were going to wait a bit longer to try again) and 2 weeks later I had a positive test but I realise I was extremely lucky.

Teaandchocolate2222 · 13/09/2023 15:30

I have stage 4 endo and also had a blocked tube. For me the blocked tube was a problem as fluid was backing up in the tube and then releasing causing a toxic environment for implantation. I had the tube clipped and a cyst drained. I was due to start ivf but fell pregnant naturally 4 months post op.

Teaandchocolate2222 · 13/09/2023 15:32

Oh and like someone else said, the egg travelled from the cut off ovary to the working tube - amazing!
