One fallopian tube. How long did it take you to conceive?

I'm trying to decide when enough is enough of unsuccessfully trying to conceive naturally. Trying for approx 1 year and half (with laparoscopy in between)

I have one blocked fallopian tube with adhesions (No hydrosalpinx) and one open healthy tube.

Anyone in a similar situation - how long did it take you to conceive naturally if you did?

@Teaandchocolate2222

Was this a hydrosalpinx you had? In my laparoscopy my tubes were both checked for this but apparently I definitely don't have that - it's just blocked with adhesions. I am doubting it though... ☹️☹️

Congratulations - I'm so happy you managed to conceive naturally x

Hi, yes it was a hydrosalpinx I think. The adhesion was further up my tube so I guess the fluid was backing up the remainder of the tube and then flushing out? They tried to unblock the tube and, when they couldn't, they clipped it to stop the fluid. Good luck with your journey, I remember feeling like you do right now - much love xxx

Do you mind me asking how they diagnosed the tube as being blocked with adhesions? Could the adhesions be seen or was there just no fill and spill?

I was diagnosed with both tubes being blocked, but a subsequent consultant queried this. I was told my tubes looked totally healthy from the outside (no hydrosalpinx), and sometimes as the dye is flushed through the uterus (I think?!) goes into spasm giving the impression the tubes are blocked when they aren’t. I wonder if this could be a possibility for you too if the tubes look healthy and without hydro.

In my case though I do think they are blocked, we had no hint of a positive test in all the time we TTC. We do now have a beautiful daughter through IVF. Wishing you the very best of luck x

@GodspeedJune

I had an hsg at the time of my laparoscopy - my surgeon could see the adhesions as far as I know but he did say there was no fluid spillage from that side at all - I had biopsies taken and any other adhesions sent away and the histology showed that it wasn't endometriosis. I've also never had an STI etc. so my surgeon put it down to an unknown reason. My other tube is completely clear and healthy. It's been 10 months since my laparoscopy/hsg.

Im so pleased you managed to have your daughter. Do you still have your tubes or were they removed? My surgeon told me I'd likely need my blocked one removed before ivf but that it definitely, definitely isn't hydrosalpinx (which confused me!). I wonder if ivf meds can cause alterations with the blocked tube.

I had an ectopic pregnancy which needed removing along with one tube - the other looked healthy.
We waited 6 months to try, then I was pregnant immediately, had a very early miscarriage at 4.5 weeks, then was pregnant again that month.
Obviously the whole situation wasn’t ideal, but I was pretty chuffed with the remaining tube.

Lost my tube due to an ectopic in 2017, got pregnant in 2020 but had a mc. Got pregnant again in early 2021& DS is almost 2. I was 37 when I got pregnant with DS so could explain why it took so long.

Ah ok, if the surgeon could see the adhesions that explains it. I did get a diagnosis of endometriosis at my lap but like you I’ve never had an STD, so how the tubes became blocked I don’t understand.

Both of my tubes were left in place which I found odd and worrying! This was under the guidance of both the infertility clinic and the IVF clinic. I was told nothing needed to be done in the absence of hydrosalpinx. I was very fortunate that my first transfer worked so it obviously didn’t cause any issues with implantation.

I had a tube removed in 2001 due to a massive cyst. I tried to become pregnant naturally for a year 2014/2015 then went for IVF. We also had male infertility factor. DS was born in 2017 Flowers
