Buying a pram/stroller

Hi everyone I really am pulling my hair out. I have had carpal tunnel syndrome for several years and since becoming pregnant this has worsened significantly. I am waiting to be referred to a specialist, however, long term treatment is injections or surgery which is just not an option at the moment.
I went to check prams today and all of them (including just under 10kg to 13kg) were too heavy for me to lift and caused additional wrist pain.
I also didn’t find them easy to close and looking online, auto fold is an option for some models.
Online I’ve also seen some strollers that can use maxi cosi adapters for an infant carrier, but then I can’t add a carrycot or the seat cannot be parent facing.
Does anyone have any idea which pram or stroller that is lightweight (ideally under 7 or 8 kg), easy to fold and can add a carry seat? Also anything that might be parent facing?
Any tips or suggestions welcome x

Yoyo - unfortunately not parent facing beyond newborn insert.
Uppababy do one, also not parent facing.
I believe there's also a bugaboo. Basically most of the prams that are suitable to take on a plane.

yogasaurus · 10/09/2023 20:26

I had an uppababy minu and would recommend - it has a bassinet attachment and the new version also has clips to add in a car seat (although believe you might need to buy a specific car seat)

Quality is amazing

I’m a child care provider and my last baby had an Uppababy Vista and it was wonderful! Not sure how heavy it was, but felt pretty lightweight. Junior could be parent facing or forward and had a car seat and bassinet attachment. Then when baby #2 arrived, 2 seats could attach.

Alex8899 · 10/09/2023 23:14

Thank you everyone that’s really been helpful and given me some ideas. I’ll take a look and consider the ones that are more compact/plane friendly!

Nuna Triv Next 😊

It has maxi cosi adapters (even though this isn't advertised as they'd prefer you to use their brand car seat).

It has an infant bassinet, it parent and world faces, has one of the easiest folds I've ever used, and I think it's about 8kg?

Alex8899 · 11/09/2023 13:32

Thank you so much! I’ll take a look at this one too x

You can get all sorts of attachments for baby jogger prams and a lot of them are lightweight. They normally have them on display in John Lewis or some large boots stores.

cocksstrideintheevening · 11/09/2023 13:38

Baby jogger city mini. Single hand fold.

I had the double with twins and long term carpal tunnel, it was great

Fleur405 · 11/09/2023 13:43

So I wanted a lightweight pram just because I’m very small and also I wanted a one handed fold because I need to leave it in the buggy store at nursery and I wanted it to be able to stand up when folded. I did a lot of research and went for a cybex mios which is great in many ways
but it then found the suspension wasn’t good enough for the bumpy streets where we live. So we looked at alternatives and again I did a lot of research. I’d say the Nuna Mix Next is your best bet. I found the Stroller Workshop reviews on YouTube really helpful.

QueenOfWeeds · 11/09/2023 13:56

Have a look at the Cybex Eezy Twist.

I had the vista and it was heavy and awkward to fold - I loved it, but it’s not right for what you want. You can also rent strollers and travel systems - that might be an option so you can check whatever you buy works for you?

I have Uppababy vista v2 and its about 13kg i think with the bassinet so likely too heavy for OP, but they do a new compact travel version called Uppababy Minu, which i think is only 7kg if i remember rightly? So that might work! We are thinking of swapping our vista for it now that DD is a toddler.

Try joolz Aer Plus. It's only 6 kg and a truly one-hand fold. It comes with a newborn carrycot and you can fold the pushchair with the carrycot on. No need to take it off. We tried many lightweight strollers and this was the best in our opinion. Comes in lovely colours too. Not all stores stock it though. Mama and Papa has it in three colours. We tried it there but then ordered it in another colour from an online store. It comes with a 10-year warranty too.

Blue2020 · 11/09/2023 15:40

I was looking into travel strollers that can potentially go from birth. I ended up with an Ergobaby metro plus however it’s 8kg and feels quite heavy. It’s not parent facing so I also bought a Joie versatrax as the main pushchair from 4m-1yr, which I love but it would be too heavy and a bit faffy folding for you. My main point is there is also one called the cybex eesy s twist 2 which is light and can be parent facing. I didn’t try it out so can’t say but could be an option. I don’t know if it takes that car seat etc for the newborn stage though.

DiddlyDonut · 11/09/2023 16:38

Cosatto Wow I think it is. I've stroller suitable from newborn. Can take car seat adapter. Not parent facing.

Alex8899 · 11/09/2023 19:07

Thank you so much! I’ll take a look at all of these. And I like the idea of renting before buying 😊 I’ll check the YouTube channel also x

Maybe bugaboo bee as well? Cybex eezy s twist maybe.

And would slings be a helpful option or even worse? Might be worth checking if you can find a sling library near to l you to try some out.

Alex8899 · 11/09/2023 19:50

@BertieBotts ive seen the bugaboo bee and the Cybex come up in searches. A sling might be helpful, I have it on my Amazon wish list but I’ll look into any sling libraries also x

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 11/09/2023 21:17

I would definitely definitely look into some way to try slings before you buy, because you do have to tighten/loosen most of them on the go and if you are unable to do this or it's painful then it will end up being a waste of money.

Sometimes if you have independent baby shops they will have things like this but a library or consultant is often the way to go.

Alex8899 · 12/09/2023 12:22

Thank you! I’ve managed to find a sling library near me x

Bugaboo have a new pram called Dragonfly. It looks like it might work for you.7.9kgs. Can take car seat has bassinet and parent facing/World facing seat. And one handed fold. https://www.bugaboo.com/ie-en/strollers/bugaboo-dragonfly/bugaboo-dragonfly-bassinet-and-seat-stroller-PM006446.html

I have uppababy vista which I love but it's a monster. If money were no object I'd definitely look at dragonfly. We bought the bugaboo butterfly for travel, and its brilliant but wouldn't use as everyday pushchair.

Consider whether slightly higher weight is better if it’s then a smoother ride with larger wheels so less bouncing on your wrists.
We have a mountain buggy swift (9kg), and a babyzen yo-yo (6kg). Both have benefits and we like both, but the mountain buggy gives a might easier ride, as the large wheels mean I can push with a much lighter touch. It also bounces easier over bumpy pavements, off road etc, where as if I use yo-yo it’s more effort up and down curbs. But the yo-yo is handy for car, shopping indoor areas, travel.

The out and about nipper, mountain buggy, baby jogger, all do a range of jogger type prams that might help, as they have more suspension

Alex8899 · 05/10/2023 23:11

@Caspianberg sorry just saw your message. That’s really helpful thank you. We have bought a cheaper Joie one to start us off which is 7kg and I’m already wondering about the smoothness of the ride, however, currently the lighter the better. I’m hoping the carpal tunnel issues improve soon after birth or a year post partum so we can upgrade if needed :)

We have ordered the dragonfly .
Could not believe how easy it was to fold!! Me and DP managed it first go up and down.

Always holds with bassinet and seat so no extra faff.

Super light compared to most and has a shoulder strap. Still has good under carriage storage.

We did look at uppababy Cruz but I didn't like how the seat wasn't properly flat and it just felt really big.

Alex8899 · 09/10/2023 22:23

@PositiveThoughts11 we had a look at that one and I liked it. The other one I liked was the Nuna triv nexxt which was incredibly agile.
