am about 20 weeks pg

When I have a day when I am on my feet loads, the next day my fanjo aches like billy-oh

it kind of feels like a dragging period pain in my actual vagina I guess

my pelvic floor is a bit poor but I do try to do Kegels etc

is this normal or a sign of something sinister? (ie my internal organs are about to fall out)

Is it a subsequent pregnancy, cause the first few months of my second pregnancy I felt like everything was gonna fall out. I think it just normal as mine didn't

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 20:01

perhaps everyone IS squeamish?

Might be varicose veins in your vulva?

Vague memories that one of my antenatal group had them (was 8 years ago so memory hazy)

DumbledoresGirl · 29/02/2008 20:05

OH F&Z, I know that feeling. I think it is hormonal actually as I have also had it in the middle of a period. I wouldn't worry that it is all going to fall out - mine hasn't yet.

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 20:05

varicose veins
oh crikey I wish i had never asked
what are they and do I have to look for them?

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 20:06

DG it doesn't actually feel fally outy
I just wondered if that was the logical conclusion
it just aches and feels a bit draggy

StripeyMamaSpanx · 29/02/2008 20:07

Oh yes I get mid period, and also round ovulation sometimes too.

Nothing has fallen out so far, and generally my pelvic floor seems ok. Not sure what its all about though but hormones are always a likely suspect.

DumbledoresGirl · 29/02/2008 20:08

The feeling I had was quite an intense solid feeling ache (iyswim) right at the opening of the vagina. It was horrid because it was actually quite painful and the temptation was to hold myself, in the way you might hold your head with a headache, but of course, you cannot hold your fanjo!

hecticmum · 29/02/2008 20:09

I always get that in the first two days of my af - no fally-out feeling whatsoever, it is just an ache, almost like you'd get in a muscle after too much working out the day before iykwim. My pelvic floor is ok imo, think its just one of those things.

FourPlusOne · 29/02/2008 20:09

I am at about the same stage as you, and also get this (nice isn't it!). 3rd pregnancy, but had it last time too. I kind of though it might be a varicose vein!!! Pain went after DC2 was born, but now the throbbing is back. Have never dared to look too closely or ask my midwife . I try not to stand up for too long though as I get quite sore legs too (only if standing still - try to move around a lot though).

By the end of 2nd preg I was using those gel freezer packs about twice a day - the ones for post birth (femepad??). They seemed to help a bit.

Don't know what it actually is though - sorry!

FourPlusOne · 29/02/2008 20:11

Have x-posted with loads of people!

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 20:19

oh gosh fourplus that sounds like you have had it nastily
an ache from overusing a muscle sounds about right
is it because standing uses your pelvic floor more when you are pg?
so is standing good exercise for your p floor or does it strain it?

(have no advice but opened this thread susepcting from the title it was you!)

AitchTwoOh · 29/02/2008 20:25

i had this for about a month after dd was born, it was fixed by kegels etc. it's ghastly, you feel like you can feel the blood pumping around your bits...

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 20:31

Oh Bee

hmm I suspect I will have to ask midwife
I never ruddy SEE my midwife though
I will ask her while giving birth, i presume she may turn up for that

Lulumama · 29/02/2008 20:34

franny it sounds perfectly normal and ok IMO

you might find wearing well fitting knickers and a santitary pad/ fairy hammock might help things feel less draggy and fally downy

you might want to have a qucik look at your foof to see if any vulval varicositites.....

if you are standing it will make you feel more achey. try to sit down and get your feet up as often as you can

everyhting is growing, stretching, changing so you do get aches and pains

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/02/2008 20:39

Sorry, Franny, didn't mean to gross you out

eandh · 29/02/2008 20:42

I had this at the end of pg with dd1 but from 5/6months with dd2, it felt very bruised/swollen I used those frozen gel pads too (make you go when you first get them out of the freezer) I had to give in and ask midwife in the end and it was vericose vains disappeared aftr dd2 arrived

(both were elcetive sections as my dd's are incapable of being the right way round dd1 flexed breech and dd2 transverse so pelvic floor/fanjo fairly intact)

eandh · 29/02/2008 20:43

and i must learn how to type!

FourPlusOne · 29/02/2008 20:48

Yes Franny, was not awful or anything, but was something that bothered me! Not anywhere near that level of discomfort so far, but then I have over 4 months left for it to progress .

I just worked on the theory that if it was a varicose vein then I should get off my feet as often as I could (though it's not easy with other DCs is it!). Might start wearing maternity tights. No v veins in my legs, but don't want to get them.

Never see my midwife either! Saw a midwife when I had scan last week, but my DH was there and I haven't mentioned it to him (want to retain some kind of dignity so don't tell him every single unpleasant pregnancy ailment).

Am trying to do pelvic floors often. Hope your pains don't get any worse, I am sure that mine will given past experience. If it's any comfort, my 'bits' felt totally recovered within a couple of days of having DC2 and no post birth ill effects from all that throbbing. Didn't even use the gel packs after birth (and had them for about a fortnight after DC1). Sorry if TMI.

aiti72 · 29/02/2008 20:59

Franny, I was going to ask this same question, you beat me to it. 19 weeks, second pregnancy and that dull ache down there. No pain in abdomen, baby's heart beating fine and nothing seems to be falling out, I quess it's just hormones..

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 21:00

well fitting KNICKERS
ooh lordy this has all been a bit much for me
Lulu I can't face it right now, it takes a strong woman to have a look down there since ds

not standing for long periods is going to be a problem, really

hmmm

thanks all
