Hi all, but if a weird question I know as everyone feels ready at different times.

Just wondered if many of you starting trying to conceive in your mid twenties? It seems young but we feel ready…

Intrigued to know what people think. Been with my partner for years and we have recently renovated our house together.

Thanks in advance

Not at all! Especially as you never know if it'll take a month or many years to have children. If you are happy and settled and have discussed what having children will change in your life, all the financial discussions etc then go for it :) the average age to have a first child is just under 30.

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 07/08/2023 17:56

It wouldn't be considered at all out of the ordinary round here!

mrssunshinexxx · 07/08/2023 18:01

Had mine at 27 and 28 felt about right

Erinsborough · 07/08/2023 18:09

I had my last (2nd) not long after I had my 27th birthday, had my first not long after my 22nd birthday and my husband got the snip nearly 2 years ago now when we were 31. Everyone is ready at different times. The way I look at it is we will still be youngish when our kids are grown up. But every person is different.

Crabwoman · 07/08/2023 18:09

Had mine at 26 and 30. It was right for us.

SmallbutMighty1 · 07/08/2023 18:09

First at 27, second at 29, third at 31.

Married and the 1st and 3rd planned 😂

LolaBumble · 07/08/2023 18:13

If you want to, go for it!!

I started trying at 24, now finally pregnant with my ivf baby at 27!

Whilst there is never a perfect time I’d ask myself some honest questions. 1) is my relationship with my partner in a good place and are they equally on board with having a kid now? 2) can my finances take this-think about how you will manage childcare and make sure you can afford it (it’s often more expensive than people realise) 3) do I have any burning desires to climb Everest/travel the world etc that I need to satisfy first? 4) am I in reasonable mental and physical shape and able to deal with pregnancy?
Provided you can feel confident in these things then go for it. There is no right age to have a child and what others may gain by waiting in terms of finances/stability/ career have trade offs in terms of energy and age when the kids leave home.

I had my children 30,32,37. My daughter had her child at 26 . She has so much energy and drive and recently completed her masters at the age 29.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/08/2023 18:22

If you're ready, you're ready
You're not a baby, you're old enough

At any age, can you afford it, do you understand how you'll work finances whilst you're off, do you think he'll be an equal parent etc.

tealandteal · 07/08/2023 18:32

I had my first at 27 and then one at 32. My mum had me at 27 and her mum had her at 27! It’s a good age, lots of my friends had babies around the same time as well and we are in the middle of the pack for age in DS class parents.

lemonyellows · 07/08/2023 18:33

It's your life. It's up to you

aperolspriitz · 07/08/2023 18:38

It is pretty much the ideal biological age for conception, if not a bit older, so this is a strange question OP.

Of course you're not mad.

MrsJ6921 · 07/08/2023 18:41

I’m 26 nearly 27 and due early January! It took us 18 months to conceive and I’m married, a home owner, have a degree and also on a fast track programme within the police and my husband has a great job in HE. I would say it’s the perfect age especially for us.

chickabilla · 07/08/2023 18:47

Not at all mad. I got married at 26 and conceived my (planned) first child shortly after. I had been with my husband for 5 years before we got married; it didn’t feel quick. Oldest child is 16 now.

Twoleftlegs · 07/08/2023 18:52

Absolutely not without marriage.

i know a wealth of couples who were cohabitating (with joint mortgages) in this age bracket and literally none of them are together past 30. many engaged or married to others now, men included.

I would need that assurance and active commitment that it was for the long haul, rather than going through the motions to get on the property ladder together

usernother · 07/08/2023 18:53

It's not at all young Grin

Luhou · 07/08/2023 18:58

Deffinetely not. I had my first at 22 and now due 2nd at 25. We were married homeowners with stable jobs. May seem young but if you're in a commited relationship and have financial stability then go for it.

Worded that odd. We're still homeowners with stable jobs. Just meant we were when we decided to start a family.

Be preprared for people asking you if it was planned.

AnIdiotSandwich · 07/08/2023 19:08

We were 23 when we had our first. Both had stable jobs, house with a mortgage. No reason not to!

user1477391263 · 07/08/2023 19:08

No problem at all. However, I personally would not get pregnant without getting married first (even if it was a case of “sign papers in registry office now, have the proper wedding a few years later”).

GreekDogRescue · 07/08/2023 19:11

It’s quite old biologically

Babydust00 · 07/08/2023 19:17

Not old, we’re TTC soon and you can guess my age from my username. Echo getting married first though.

Rivermedway · 07/08/2023 19:18

When I had my dc, it was a fairly common age for first time mums. I felt one of the older ones at thirty, and if you waited until, after you were thirty, you were really chancing it with your biological clock.

Rivermedway · 07/08/2023 19:22

Average age of mothers
