3rd day of induction.. stuck at 1cm😫

Hi all. So my 3rd day in hospital today being induced . After 3 failed pessaries and being so exhausted I'm losing my shit 😫 so just seen the doctor and been offered even a c section or trying to attempt to break my waters at 1cm and going on the drip which I'm now on a list for and stuck in hospital! I am experiencing on and off cramping and constantly being sick so having anti sickness injections as well as barely sleeping. I really didn't want it to come to a c section but think that's what might happen😫 trying to dilate more by taking hot baths, using the birthing ball and walking but still no progress. Has anyone got any tips or am I just preparing myself for a c section as it might fail even trying to attempt my waters 😫 it's hard! Keep crying as seeing people coming in and out going into labour straight away and I'm just stuck at 1cm!

A c section isn't the worst thing to recover from, and you might end up with one anyway after hours on the drip. That's what happened with my first. With the benefit of hindsight I think I would have asked for a c section rather than the drip for many hours, then an epidural then an emergency c section. But, of course, that's hindsight for you and I know now that nothing would have helped me dilate any further than I did.

But maybe it would help for you to have a definitive end of the process rather than the seemingly endless process of attempting induction.

Go for the c section!

TeaKitten · 31/07/2023 13:57

I’d just go for the c section, I found recovery from c section much easier than both my inductions, and if you aren’t progressing then the induction could end in emergency section anyway.

Amidlifecrisis · 31/07/2023 13:57

Go for the section. Your body doesn’t sound like it’s ready so realistically you are facing hours more of extreme pain on the drip and very likely a c section and/or lots of interventions at the end anyway. At least if you opt for it now tue decision can be made calmly and you can conserve some energy. Best of luck!

If this is any help, I had an induction in May and my waters were broke at 1cm, was rather uncomfortable but it did work. They were broke at 9pm and baby was here by the next morning. No drip was needed for me either, I know everyone is different but just sharing my experience Grin

N4ish · 31/07/2023 14:05

Honestly, just go for the c-section! If you know when it's happening then you can try to get some rest and relax as much as you can. Good luck, hopefully you'll be holding your baby very soon.

HelloHello183 · 31/07/2023 14:08

sorry for got to add obviously if you would feel more comfortable and relaxed going for the csection then go for it, just do what you think is best! congratulations

I was stuck at 1cm at 37 weeks for a couple of days. They broke my waters (tiny painless nick but I was so worried about that) and then I had the drip. It was actually fine. I gave birth 12 hours later with no tears or interventions. Recovery was quick, I was out walking my dog the next day with baby in a pram.

My sister had two drip inductions and was fine also. I was so so worried about having one, especially after my birthing class, but it was okay.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 31/07/2023 14:15

So sorry. A planned c section is meant to be a calm experience, and I would probably go for it if I were you. You will be exhausted to go through further interventions, labour etc. If you're too tired to push, forceps may be needed.

Your decision but if they're offering a c section you may be best off going for it

thinkfast · 31/07/2023 14:20

I'm surprised they've left you 3 days before trying the drip. The drip can be more painful so you might decide you want an epidural with it (I did).

If it's been 3 days and you're exhausted, ask to speak to a consultant or lead midwife, explain how you're feeling and your worries and talk through the best / safest option.

Yorkshiredolls · 31/07/2023 14:28

The c section was the nest thing about my failed 3 day induction, I wish Id just been offered one on day one.

For me it was staffing levels and space on the labour ward. I was at the top of the queue three nights in a row, and then an emergency or someone further dilated would come in and take the spot. I was thinking that's what the OP meant by seeing people coming in and feeling frustrated

neleh87 · 31/07/2023 15:09

Hi, I was in your position exactly 17 weeks ago today. 3 day induction, still 1cm dilated, the whole weekend in hospital being monitored every 4 hours. I was really tired and fed up and winding myself up about the birth.

They broke my waters at 3.20pm, put me on the drip at 5.45pm and DS was born at 11.49pm. So not a super long process. I got a bit of an adrenaline rush when my waters broke. The drip did make it quite painful for a couple of hours. If I was already feeling sick like you, I might have felt worse. I'd go for the c-section in your position.

Best of luck, how exciting!

summerlovingvibes · 31/07/2023 15:22

Similar experience, couldn't get past 2cm and that was WITH the drip! Ended in emergency c-section as after a few days I was so exhausted. It was a total mess (albeit covid lockdown times so a lot of blame on that for staffing and visitor issues).

Second time I just went straight for the c-section. Mentally prepared, thought about recovery in advance and worked out what would make recovery easier. No way was I going to risk a second induction and emergency c-section.

Jo190 · 31/07/2023 16:09

Couldn’t read without replying. I could have written this post with my first. I ended up having a section for the same reason and it was incredible. I was immediately disappointed when they told me that was the next step but I was then suddenly so excited to meet my baby and knew we were both in the safest hands as the team introduced themselves and put us at ease. I saw my eldest being born and it was unforgettable. I really don’t believe it would have been the same experience had I continued with the vaginal birth which was already traumatic by that 1cm stage as the frequency of my contractions was in line with a far more advanced stage. I actually think I would have looked back on my birth more negatively too had I had a vaginal delivery! As long as you are both safe and healthy. All the best. ❤️

Jo190 · 31/07/2023 16:11

Ps I will opt for an elective next time - that’s how awesome the experience was, despite being classed as an emergency one.

justanothernamechangemonday · 31/07/2023 16:12

Take the section!!!!

ejg504 · 31/07/2023 16:20

This happened to me!

They did eventually manage to break my waters and I went on the drip but my labour still failed to progress. He wasn't ready to leave! I had done all my hypnobirthing techniques and was really set on a vaginal birth but my body was just having none of it!

In the end I had a c section but honestly it was such a lovely experience! it wasn't a rush or emergency (other than being in hospital for 4 days we were both fine) the midwife took a video of him being born and first cuddles!

Recovery was fine- I just kept on top of pain medication and kept moving. When speaking to my friends I seemed to be in less pain than others who had had really difficult births and tearing.

I'm now pregnant with my second and having an elective c section.

Good luck! I hope baby is here soon

TheInterceptor · 31/07/2023 16:24

ELCS all the way.

Blahblahgingerbreadlady · 31/07/2023 16:25

I would get a c section!!! So much better

PrancerandDancer · 31/07/2023 16:27

I had this situation and was waiting to have my waters broken... I was warned I was likely to end up in theatre anyway so I asked for the c section. Zero regrets and recovery really wasn't that bad. Good luck whichever path you take x

Rummikub · 31/07/2023 16:34

after that long - c section.

Similar to me. But I had my waters broken, 2 failed inductions and manually making me go from 2cm to 4cm!

I wish I hadn’t waited as I was exhausted.

good luck whatever you decide x

Octaviathethird · 31/07/2023 17:47

I was also stuck at 1cm, I let them break my waters and then had an epidural and the drip, it took 4 more days for me to be dilated enough to push but I couldn't push her out, I think because I was exhausted. I needed an episiotomy and forceps in theatre, with the surgeon waiting just in case I needed an emergency section. With hindsight I should definitely have gone for a C-section, as it is, I'm left with ligament damage in my leg from being in stirrups for 4 days, and a prolapse from the prolonged pushing and forceps. So I think go for the section, good luck!

LividHot · 31/07/2023 17:52

I also had a four day failed induction.

I was SO TIRED. So in pain but going nowhere. The thought of going on the drip and then needing a crash section anyway? No fuckin way.

I had a requested section at 4am on day 5 and it was a PLEASURE.

(As much as having your tummy sliced open can be, but honestly have one)

Rummikub · 31/07/2023 18:04

I thought I was getting a tummy massage when I had my c section. Then minutes later there she was!
