Hi all. So my 3rd day in hospital today being induced . After 3 failed pessaries and being so exhausted I'm losing my shit 😫 so just seen the doctor and been offered even a c section or trying to attempt to break my waters at 1cm and going on the drip which I'm now on a list for and stuck in hospital! I am experiencing on and off cramping and constantly being sick so having anti sickness injections as well as barely sleeping. I really didn't want it to come to a c section but think that's what might happen😫 trying to dilate more by taking hot baths, using the birthing ball and walking but still no progress. Has anyone got any tips or am I just preparing myself for a c section as it might fail even trying to attempt my waters 😫 it's hard! Keep crying as seeing people coming in and out going into labour straight away and I'm just stuck at 1cm!

after this long I think I would go for a c-section. Meet your baby.

loveclipbook · 31/07/2023 18:10

Just have the C Section it is the safest way for you both after 3 days of no progress.

Offredismysister · 31/07/2023 18:15

You’ll probably be so tired & dehydrated from the vomiting & stress you’ve had so far. I’d be surprised if your labour progressed. I’d have the section.

Nat6999 · 31/07/2023 18:16

I was ininduced labour for 60 hours before an emcs, I got to 8cm but couldn't get any further, I was shattered, hallucinating from lack of sleep, swollen up like a balloon with all the fluid. I wish I had just taken the c section at the beginning like I was offered. I would have been home quicker as well.

loveclipbook · 31/07/2023 18:29

You will meet your baby very quickly with a C-Section. Best wishes.

I'm a great believer in preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best, and I would be preparing for a C-section. Up to you how much you really want to try for a vaginal birth beyond that. I did, and went ahead with the drip both times.

As a little bit of hoping for the best though, my induction with my first started at 1cm, and went swimmingly. Waters gone at 3am, drip started at 5am, baby born 4.44pm. I will admit that I didn't have a 3 day wait, but I had barely slept the preceding 2 nights, and was shattered nevertheless.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 31/07/2023 19:05

This happened to me, after 4 days I made it to 4cm and by that point I was exhausted and my baby was in distress.

It ended in an emergency c.section.

If they're offering a cs then I'd take it tbh.

Drip worked a charm for me. I wasn't dilating with all the other methods and then had the drip and was fully dilated within 6hours and gave birth within the hour. If you have it make sure you also have the epidural as contractions are intense.

AlanJohnsonsBeamer · 31/07/2023 20:43

I was in your position in December. It was so frustrating, I ended up waiting it out, had the drip and gave birth after 34 hours of contractions. I wasn't offered a C section as I eventually dilated. But if I could, I would have definitely had a C section.

Congratulations! Not long to go and baby will be here 🙂

The drip worked for me! Day 1: Induced in the morning with the gel. Day 2: Failed to progress beyond 1cm dilated and was tearful everytime a woman moved to the delivery suite despite being in the induction ward for less time than me. Day 3: My waters were broken at noon despite being 1cm dilated (cervix was softer though). On the drip at 2pm and delivered my baby 8 hours later. This was my first baby.

There is hope yet so no need to have a c section.

I also had a four day failed induction.

I was SO TIRED. So in pain but going nowhere. The thought of going on the drip and then needing a crash section anyway? No fuckin way.

I had a requested section at 4am on day 5 and it was a PLEASURE.

(As much as having your tummy sliced open can be, but honestly have one)

Yes, the tiredness from a failed induction which extended over several days before I was even in Labour really made my first few days as a mum horrendous. Hallucinating with exhaustion and it made the Day 3 tears a particularly sad memory looking back.

I will return to this thread if I’m lucky enough to have another baby to be reminded how I felt and why an elective is right for me.

Jo190 · 31/07/2023 21:19

Just realised my message above is negative. Sorry OP and anyone reading who wants encouragement. I have previously posted about how incredible my experience of a section was after a failed induction.

MayBe6 · 31/07/2023 21:23

I’ve been there with my dd, induction took days to take effect, then in labour for another 2 days then baby started getting in distress, I was exhausted and only got to 6cm in all that time. Midwife has to try and force the rest of my cervix to open with her fingers, which was as joyous as it sounds. Then consultant shouted at me that I’ll need surgery if I didn’t start pushing harder. Ended with huge tears and forceps delivery which was awful, lost a lot of blood. It put us off trying for 2nd baby for many years.
Have the section and save yourself the unknowns- my second was born by section and it was a dream compared to my first experience.

PurpleReindeer2 · 31/07/2023 21:26

Good luck OP. If you are still struggling then I'd go for the section.

Greybeardy · 31/07/2023 21:29

Have you asked them how ‘ambitious’ an ARM it is/how likely they think getting into labour is? (There’s a bit more to it than how many cm dilated you are…but I’m just an anaesthetist so it’s a mystery to me!). If they think it’s a bit sporting then maybe the section might be better? In the meantime, the labourpains website has lots of info about epidurals/pain relief options if you’d be interested (lots of women who go on the drip do ask for an epidural).

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 31/07/2023 21:29

I’d go for a cs. I had a very long stage of early labour and was exhausted by the time I was given the drip.
Ifyou give the drip a try make sure you get an epidural first. I had a sleep for awhile with the epidural.

SunshineAndFizz · 31/07/2023 21:29

I'd have asked for a section by now, no question.

I've had two and honestly have no regrets. Get baby out safely, and for your benefit too.
