Hey all!!

First time Mum to be here… I’m 32 weeks and on the hunt for a good breast pump.

Please could you share if you used a breast pump, which one and any pros and cons to it!

Thank you in advance! 💓

If you’re looking for an electric one, with my first I had tommee tippee which was excellent, but that was 12 years ago. My second I had an avent one which wasn’t fantastic but I managed to pump for a few weeks. This time while searching I’ve seen you can hire a hospital grade medela one which are really good so I’m tempted to do that this time. Depends how much you are thinking of using it really

I bought a Medella Swing double which is fine but not sure it is any better than the tommee tippee I had 4 years ago. Double is great tho as saves time. This time I have done more hand expressing tho as DS only gives me short windows to express and it takes me time to get a let down with a pump. Best of luck. X

Bella baby , best bang for buck - take a look at the reviews on amazon. I had the standard one (the hand held one with loads of reviews) but I noticed recently they have launched a hands free version too.

It really depends on why and how you plan to pump: Do you plan to pump only occasionally? regularly? exclusively? only at work? and in that case, do you have access to a lactation room? with an electic outlet? or will you need to pump on the go? Here are few things to consider:

  • If you plan to pump occasionnally, a manual pump might be enough (and cheaper)
  • If you need an electical pump, get a double pumping one. Not only will you save lots of time, but it is also more efficient. If both breasts are stimulated at the same time, they will produce more
  • hospital grade pump are really more efficient than the commercial ones (Lansinoh, Mam...) and Medela and Spectra a the most recommended brands. Also the problem with commercial pumps is that they often have only one or two flange size available, which means that the flagne size will most likely be the wrong one. A wrong flange size makes pumping more painful and less effective
  • That being said, if you only plan to pump at work, it might be a good option to buy a commercial pump and leave it at your office, rather than carrying a heavy pump every day...
  • The electrical pumps that have a battery (like Spectra S1 rather than S2) are often more convenient
  • Wearable pumps (like Elvie, Willow, Momcozy...) are extremely convenient in the sense that you can pump anywhere. But they are not as effective as the regular ones (obviously as the motor is smaller). And the best ones are the most expensive
  • If you plan to or end up exclusively pumping, it's really a good idea to get 2 pumps

I exclusively pumped until my son was 14 months. I had a hospital grade Ardo pump in the beginning, then tried the Bella baby pump (very painful - I don't recommend), and settled with the Medela Swing double which is fantastic. I also tried a Momcozy but it didn't empty my breasts.

Inbetween the first two pumps I used a manual Advent pump which I loved! It was just too much work for an exclusively expressing mama. 😊

Hi there, first time mum due in 3 months.

Finding it difficult to navigate the information online regarding breast pumps.
I would like a hands free electric pump but I don't want to spend ridiculous money.
I will be breastfeeding the usual way, but I would like to pump regularly as well. Partly so my partner can share the feeding, but also because I wish to return to work earlier than most.

Can you please help me with some recommendations?

KMum2BO · 14/01/2024 10:19

Prame/Pushchair recommendations, please?

The first child is on the way and want to know if it's worth investing in a 3-in-1 (prame/pushchair/car seat) or shall we look at a single to a double (a prame for one child that can be upgraded to two). We are thinking about having two kids relativity close together.

Or maybe something completely different?

Any thoughts and advice is appreciated.

Try Bella baby hands free. I used the Bella baby normal pump with my first (they hadn't brought out the hands free at that stage) and the normal one is amazing for bang for buck. I've read good things about the hands free version too.

Following as I’m also looking to get one.

I tried the Elvie wearable with my first and was so disappointed. The Bella Baby was brilliant at the time though not wearable / hands free & I’ve seen they now do wearables which I’m tempted to try! Momcozy also keeps coming up so I’m not sure which to lean towards…
