Hi,

I had surgical management of a mmc last week at 11 weeks pregnant and i’m trying my best to keep looking forward. I just wondered if you’d also experienced a mmc-

1- what method of management did you opt for?

2- do you remember how long it took to test negative on a pregnancy test again?
3- how long was it before you conceived again? (Assuming you kept trying).

thanks
xxx

Sorry for your loss @HashB

  1. I had surgical management in May 2019 at 12 weeks pregnant.

  2. It took exactly 3 weeks to get a bfn on a test.

  3. I conceived again on Christmas Day 2019 and my daughter was born in September 2020.

HashB · 17/07/2023 15:27

@prayforthecottransfer What a Christmas present!! Pleased it worked out for you in the end xxx

Sorry for your loss OP.

i had a missed miscarriage in January and opted for surgical management, I got a negative test after 3 weeks exactly and I conceived again this month so took 6 months

Blue2020 · 17/07/2023 15:31

So sorry for your loss. Yes keep up hope, I know that’s easy to say and I’ve been there, it’s horrible.

  1. mmc found out at 9 week scan it had stopped at 6+4 apparently. I contacted the epu and was in the process of repeat scans when I naturally passed at 11weeks… only I still tested positive at 15weeks and had surgical management at 16weeks for retained products. It felt like a very long winded miscarriage.
  2. Tested negative about 5 days later once I stopped bleeding, partly because it had already been 5 weeks of bleeding.
  3. conceived again 3 months later. I used opk and bbt to make sure we were covering ovulation. Good job I did because the cycle I conceived I had ovulated 5 days later than usual, even my body had given up the signs, cervical mucus had stopped.

Ds is now 15 weeks old and I still can’t believe he’s here and ours.

Bumblebee2022 · 17/07/2023 15:36

I’m so sorry you are going through this.

i had surgical management for a MMC in July 2005. I don’t remember doing a pg test afterwards, but I remember having a period 4 weeks after, so my cycles went back to normal immediately. We didn’t try again straight away, but I fell pregnant the first month we tried in the December.

Redpanda21 · 17/07/2023 15:38

Sorry for your loss.

Mine was quite complex. Discovered blighted ovum mmc at 9+5.

1&2) had to have medical management as covid meant no surgical management. Tested positive 3 weeks later so at 4 weeks after medical management, had surgical management for retained products. Still tested positive 3 weeks later and had another round of surgical management.
2) a week or so after second surgical management
3) well, my period didn’t return for another 18 weeks and it was cycle 6 after that when I successfully conceived.

I was told my situation was out of the norm.

Hi Op. I'm
Really sorry for your loss.

I had 2 MMC's last year, Jan and June. Surgical management for both as I did not want to miscarry naturally.

I am currently 38+2 with baby coming on Friday from an ELCS.

Best of luck to you. I sorted after my losses (I wasn't significantly overweight but advice was to try and get BMI lower in the normal range) and cut out a fair bit of sugar, and made sure I was exercising 30 mins each day. Doing that has also really helped this pregnancy.

I also has progesterone pessaries for the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy.

Best of luck.

justanothernamechangemonday · 17/07/2023 15:40

So many spelling errors. Sorted = dieted! The rest I'm sure you'll get! Sorry!

magnolia1997 · 17/07/2023 15:53

A long time ago I had a mmc at 9 weeks which was surgically managed.
That was in the September.
We took a small break as was recommended then and got pregnant in February. Baby born in November.
Sorry for your loss. Good luck.

HashB · 17/07/2023 16:03

Thank you all so much for your replies.
@justanothernamechangemonday did you ever find out why this happened to you twice? They’ve told me there is no more chance of it happening again as there was of it happening this time, but this is my biggest fear.

i told all my family my ‘happy news’ and when they’ve given me the measurements, the baby had already died before I did that. My morning sickness continued way beyond the baby living, I thought the first sonographer had really got it wrong. Feels like a really cruel practical joke. I’m so sorry you had this twice.

Hi sorry to hear this happening to you . I was am 38 with 1 3yr old DD . I was diagnosed MMC 8th March at 8wks .

  1. Had medical management which i thought had worked but after 2 weeks i started bleeding and 3 weeks i still had a positive test . At 4 weeks I had surgical management .
  2. I had a negative test in less than a week .
  3. took 39 days to have a period next period was 34 days , 3rd cycle has been awful very PMS/cramping and on day 34 BFN and no period , i’m still all over the place . It’s been really hard .
JenniferBarkley · 17/07/2023 16:07

I had surgical management and tested positive for about 3 weeks after. I then very quickly got my period and was caught short as I thought it would take longer after testing negative, just to warn you!

I conceived the following month and had a healthy baby at term.

Good luck. Flowers

Tea94 · 17/07/2023 16:10

Had an MMC and opted for surgical management.
Honestly, I was not in the right place to even test afterwards, so I had no idea when my BFN would have been (not recommending)!
I then became pregnant 3 months later, was absolutely terrified, easily hidden because of lockdowns, and then my daughter came around the anniversary of my MMC!

Cdoc · 17/07/2023 16:11

So sorry for your loss OP🤍it’s such an awful thing to go through.

I opted for medical management. A scan 2 days after taking the tablets showed that everything had passed, but it took 2 weeks to test negative.

I started tracking ovulation the moment I tested negative and fell pregnant before having a period (effectively day 23 of the cycle counting the miscarriage bleed as day 1). Baby is now 4 months old. I know they don’t always recommend to try before you have a period but I was desperate (and very fortunate that it worked).

Best of luck, be kind to yourself x

ChloeN · 17/07/2023 16:35

@HashB sorry for your loss, I also found looking forward and hoping to be pregnant again the only thing that got me through!

I had medical management, tablets didn’t work immediately so took a second dose the next day, was bleeding but didn’t pass any pregnancy tissue. However passed it all 3 days later, it was really painless for me and I was lucky the bleeding wasn’t heavy, that may have been because it took a few days to work! It took 3 weeks to be negative on normal tests and 4 weeks for the sensitive early ones, it went completely negative as soon as I got my period! It took me 3 cycles to concieve again, I’m now 38 weeks xx

Indreams21 · 17/07/2023 16:43

So sorry for your loss @HashB

  1. I had the surgical management for a missed miscarriage in February. Unfortunately I actually had to have it again in March as not all the pregnancy tissue was removed.. that's another story altogether 😅
  2. It took me 3 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test from the 2nd surgery date. So it was a longer process than most, probably took 6 weeks for it all to be sorted out, from finding out about the miscarriage to a negative test.
  3. We were really lucky and I conceived again quickly in May/June so only a few cycles after. I am 8 weeks pregnant now and fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Remember to take your time and always put yourself first ❤️

LMM91x · 17/07/2023 16:50

so sorry you're going through this - sending lots of ❤️

I had an mmc in January - discovered at a scan but I had been spotting for a few days anyway so it progressed naturally over the following days - it was v painful if I'm honest and I would have certainly wanted surgical if I'd had the opportunity.

I tested negative exactly 14 days after the 'full bleed' - the next day I ovulated and fell pregnant again (absolute whirlwind to be honest) I'm now thankfully 26 weeks and all looking really good❤️. Emotionally it's been hard, i'm not sure I've come close to even dealing with the mmc but I've had to focus on the new pregnancy.

sending you lots of strength at this difficult time xxxx

LS888 · 17/07/2023 16:50

I had a missed miscarriage in July last year. I had surgical management as it wasn’t happening naturally. We conceived again in mid November and am now 37 weeks pregnant.

I don’t remember when I tested negative. But after I was told it was a miscarriage I was still testing positive for quite a while. I still had pregnancy nausea until I had the surgery which is just cruel.

Cheetocat · 17/07/2023 17:24

Holding out hope if being pregnant again really got me through too. I had a mmc last year at the end of May.

I found the thought of surgery really scary and invasive for me personally. I was given the option to wait and see if my body would expell everything naturally, so I opted for that. It did start but I had some remaining tissue in there so had medical management the next week.

I didn't take any tests afterwards.

It took us a year to conceive again and fingers I'm going to be nine weeks along tomorrow.

CaliGirl47 · 17/07/2023 19:52

Hi OP. @HashB I am so sorry for your loss 💐 MMC can be so cruel, and it can be so hard to feel like you can trust your body again when things like this happen. I hope your physical recovery goes smoothly, and things go well for you going forward. Here is my experience:

I had a MMC discovered on November 3rd at 10 weeks. I opted for surgical management on November 16th. I was still getting a faint positive at 3 weeks post surgery on December 7th but then AF arrived at 4.5 weeks on December 17th…I was planning on giving my body a few cycles to let the uterine lining build back up properly. But I ended up falling pregnant on New Year’s Eve and got my BFP on January 13th. I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with that rainbow baby and all has been well. 💜💛💜

Sending you lots of love and hope for your rainbow 🌈

p.s. anxiety in pregnancy after mc can be such a scary place. If you do find yourself in that place, I found Tommy’s miscarriage clinic really kind and helpful. They gave me emotional support and extra scans in early pregnancy which really helped me to cope with the long wait to 12 weeks.

moosey89 · 17/07/2023 19:58

So sorry for your loss OP.

My first MMC in July 2019 I had surgical management (I was 10+4, baby stopped growing around 9 weeks). Took 3 weeks to get a negative test. Me and my husband tried for another 6months ish after that, but didn't get pregnant. After that our relationship drifted (it was doomed anyway even before I got pregnant, looking back at it) and we ended up splitting up so had a gap in trying.

I am currently going through my second MMC (with my new partner) and no living children, and have opted for surgical management which is booked for Thursday, but it feels like my body might start the process before then, so I'll have to wait and see.

justanothernamechangemonday · 17/07/2023 20:01

Thanks OP. I know that my second loss was due to the baby having Edward's syndrome as my trust very kindly tested the baby's remains due to my age (38). I don't think that's routine, but my hospital is fab.

The first loss was unknown. It was a 12 week loss which is why I opened for surgical management. I'm not sure I could've gone through with losing baby naturally.

Best of luck.

HashB · 17/07/2023 20:45

@moosey89 I’m sorry this is happening to you too. By the time I got to hospital, I had started to lightly bleed, and the doctor did ask me if I wanted to let things happen naturally but I still opted to go ahead with the surgery so I could know it was ‘all done’.

I only had my surgery on Friday so our timings are quite similar. You’ll be in my thoughts xx

HashB · 17/07/2023 20:49

@CaliGirl47 thank you, your story gives me hope. It’s good to know that there is a good support for pregnancy post MC, I was so nervous of something going wrong the first time and there was not even the slightest hint that it had, I don’t know how I’ll ever be content in pregnancy again. I feel so tricked.

good luck with your lovely rainbow baby xxx

moosey89 · 17/07/2023 21:03

@HashB thank you - I hope my body can hold off as I'd rather have the surgery and recover from that than go through it naturally. I've been spotting for 10 days now so hopefully can hold on for a few more!x
