Does this sound like I'm getting spd?

In so much pain. Never had this in first pregnancy. 16 weeks, 17 on saunday. My legs, lower back and hips hurt real bad. When I walk my left hip clicks/grinds.

Doesn't help I'm on my feet with my job and wondering if I should go to the doctors on Monday.

Tia x

I had spd. It's 13 years ago so I can't remember the early stages but I know I initially thought id pulled muscle in that class overstretching in Pilates. However I remember later on lying in bed and it being too painful to turnover so I'd have to sit up and get DH to help move me into another position. And also struggling to walk. It was agony. Get to the doctor or midwife and if you have got it ask for physio referral. I left it quite late and should have got treatment sooner.

Thank you. I just never want to waste anyones time. I don't know if its cause I'm over done it and it's normal or could potentially be that. Suppose it's better to be safe than sorry x

I had spd with all three of my pregnancies from week 13 so yes see a doctor asap. Try to at least get a belt and physio.

Alba82 · 15/07/2023 00:07

It sounds very much like it. I've much sympathy for you as I had it with all 3 of mine, each time it was worse & it actually the reason I stopped at 3. Ask to be seen by a physio who specialises in pregnancy & also look into getting reflexology, it really helped me. Speak to your midwife about options for delivery

I will thank you. Definitely going to the doctors about it. Is it normal tho to not have it one pregnancy but get in the next? I thought it was something you'd get in all pregnancies x

It's awful. The clicking/grinding is definitely not normal. That's whats worrying me and shouldn't be in this much pain. I will do. Thank you.x

Yeah it's SPD. My pelvis used to pop and grind mainly when I turned over at night, I also couldn't manage to walk for more than a few minutes at a time. It's really nasty and i hope you get some relief. Definitely reach out about physio xx

Mine ATM just happens when I walk. I never had it with my first. Well from what I remember. I definitely will as I really don't want to get worse. It definitely a pain in bed too when I turn over xx

I’m suffering with it really bad at the minute, I’ve been signed off work for 2 weeks until I go for my 20 week appointment and then they’ll hopefully refer me to physio🤞🏼

Emma543 · 15/07/2023 18:35

Hi OP
I'm a specialist women’s health physio and it definitely sounds like pelvic girdle pain (or SPD as it used to be known).
Rather than going to your GP I would contact your midwife first who can straight refer you to physio who can assess you and provide any treatment. Double check for your local trust but there has been a roll out of self referring to improving access to care so may be with a Google if you can refer yourself.
We only advise our patients to contact their GP regarding this if the pain is so bad that you can no longer cope and need a prescription for codeine.

it’s a really common condition but the earlier you learn how to manage it and get treatment the outcomes are much better.
hope that helps! X

Same here. It was utter agony. I did have physio but it didn't help, and I refused painkillers. The more I did in the day, the more pain I had later on. I hope you can get signed off and some help, as it's not something I would wish on anyone.

Try sleeping on side with pillow in-between knees, this helps a little.

lemonyellows · 15/07/2023 19:15

So painful.

I found getting in and out of the car was so painful. Having a plastic bag on the seat helps you to slide to move.

lemonyellows · 15/07/2023 19:16

And keep knees together when you get up.

Wfhandbored · 15/07/2023 19:18

Have you got a pregnancy pillow? It was the only thing that got me comfy enough to be able to sleep with SPD

Yeah I have to walk home and its absolute agony. My job is hard word and having to be constantly on my feet is hard work. And lifting heavy stuff although I'm stopping but I'm stubborn and hate asking for help. If I can't get signed off but lighter duties just to cut right back I'd be fine with that. My Co worker slagged me off to the boss saying I'm not being fast enough but I've explained I'm in a lot of pain. Its frustrating not getting listened to. I'll ty that thank you x

If the doctor advises for to take time off ill do it. But we've had people leave and it's a small business there's only 4 people working there so I'd feel bad if I'm not there but know I shouldn't as I need to put my health first. But I'm struggling and don't think I'm getting heard. 😕 not taking me seriously at all. Thank you for all the comments and advice x
