Thinking of becoming a doula and just wondered if there are any expectant mums out there in the pembrokeshire area who would consider hiring a doula! Dont worry i havent even done any course yet just wondered if its worth doing it!! Cheers!

Hi all

I'm 5 and a half month's pregnant and live in London but I'm considering hiring a Doula. My best friend lives in Kent and has offered to be here but that isn't definite. My mum would just panic and stress - and I don't have a partner.

Click on the doula uk link below and go to find a doula. There are plenty in London. As so many have said...it's amazing!

i wish I had had a doula- we thought it wouldn't be necessary, but I think my prgny and cs would have been much better. less stressful and safer tbh. my dh orginally said no as he thought that it would be ok with the nhs, but now he wishes he had let me go ahead.
i would have one if i have another baby though- lulumama isn;t always on mn! totally the best help...thanks again

sarah733 · 27/02/2008 21:49

Sponge cake- Well its difficult to know how you labor is going to be, but i know that with my first child, whom i had in birmingham, i wasnt treated very nice by some of the midwifes and even though my mum was with me it might have been betta to have had some one who was on the out side ie emotions. Who could have seen the way i was being treated. Im not sure if im getting my point across so im gonna shut up now!!!

Your last point makes sense sarah!

I had a doula for second baby and would totally recommend it. Will hopefully have her again if when I have a third.

So go for it, the more doulas the better. As someone said, the NHS sadly can't be relied on. Often no fault of the overworked midwives themselves

Akiandme · 28/02/2008 10:23

Yep, I hired a doula for the bith of DD. I wouldn't have had any where near such a positive birth expereince without her. Worth every penny.

schneebly · 28/02/2008 10:27

I am ttc at the moment and really excited about the possibility of having my friend and super MN Doula, Lulumama, to help me!

Peachy · 28/02/2008 11:59

Sarah- just a small reference for Jofeb LOL! She hasn't done the labour bit (yet) but she's been lovely when we've met and has made me and Dh feel more confident about a tricky set up for labour.
She's lovely

clareandbean · 28/02/2008 14:54

I had a doula and she was amazing. I was induced and the midwife was so busy faffing with the equipment that she didn't have time to look after me. The doula talked to me, held my hand, made me feel safe, secure, looked after and confident. I would do it again without a shadow of a doubt.
