This is my 2nd pregnancy. 1st child didnt feel movement till 21 weeks, but this pregnancy ive felt movements flutters since 13 weeks at least a few times a day some days strong . I had a gender scan a week ago and all was good my placenta is posterior. Since then I've felt nothing for 5 days, ive tried lying on my back sugary drinks etc and nothing is working. I've had 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy so obviously worried. My midwife seems to think it's normal but im not a fan of her lol. Surely the movements would becoming stronger not stopping. Anyone had a similar situation?

I'm 21 weeks now and felt movement very early on, from about 13 or 14 weeks.

Quite a few times when 17 / 18 weeks I'd panic as I'd have days of basically no movement.

I think there's still so much space for baby that this is normal.

Its only the last week I've had regular movement every day

AlligatorPsychopath · 07/07/2023 12:50

It happens all the time. The baby has almost certainly just moved into another position where you can't feel them.

allgoodthings84 · 07/07/2023 12:53

It’s totally normal at that stage. Probably moved position.

If you’re really worried then you could give your EPU/FHU a call but they will only check for the heartbeat (which can also be hit and miss at 17 weeks). They don’t normally get concerned about reduced movement until 28 weeks

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/07/2023 12:54

Call and go in for a heartbeat check

How many weeks are you? It's such a worry isn't it. Gave midwife a call she wasn't conserned.

Im really hoping I start to feel movements again. Its such a worry I'm a natural panicker. Asked my midwife of she would be able to listen to heartbeat for me gave me a very firm no. Not great when ive had misscarriages was hoping for more support from her.

Really hoping this is the case. It's crazy how much we can worry.

At that size baby is still small enough that you don’t always feel everything. It’s likely baby has just moved. It’s completely normal. Midwives ask you to monitor movement patterns from 28 weeks.

Only spoke to midwife this morning she is very firm and said she wouldn't listen to heartbeat until after 20 weeks ish. Was really hoping I'd get more support after having misscarriages 😕 really hoping I'll stray to feel baby again soon

Agh how frustrating :-(

The only thing you can now do to reassure yourself is book in for a private scan- under £100 if you can afford it then that's worth the peace of mind x

From replys it does seem normal, didn't have any problems with movements with my daughter. But with this pregnancy after miscarriages im very anxious and worry about everything. I know its still early but from feeling them daily to nothing it scared me. Midwife wasn't conserned she is a very firm and told me to stop worrying and she won't even listen for heartbeat yet. Was hoping for more support after miscarriages. I just hope I start to feel movements again soon x

I'm sorry, that's rubbish the midwife wouldn't do a quick heartbeat check, especially with your history.

I panicked several days (I remember one very long day on holiday!) so I do know how you feel.

It's almost worse when you can feel kicks earlier, because then you start expecting them every day. With DS1 I didn't have kicks so early so then didn't worry about not having them!

No support they don't offer you any unless you've had 3 misscarriages ive had 2. I actually got pregnant staight after my second. I had a private gender scan a week ago since then I've had no movements. But all was good at the scan im having a boy 💙

A lot of midwives won’t check the heartbeat that early because there’s still a chance they won’t find it which obviously causes so much more stress. It’s totally understandable to be worried but it is completely normal. I have had several days of no movement and then get a good solid thump again.

From 16 weeks you should be under the maternity assessment unit as at the hospital, I was at good hope at least. Give them a call, they had me in at 17 weeks when I was freaking out
