This is my 2nd pregnancy. 1st child didnt feel movement till 21 weeks, but this pregnancy ive felt movements flutters since 13 weeks at least a few times a day some days strong . I had a gender scan a week ago and all was good my placenta is posterior. Since then I've felt nothing for 5 days, ive tried lying on my back sugary drinks etc and nothing is working. I've had 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy so obviously worried. My midwife seems to think it's normal but im not a fan of her lol. Surely the movements would becoming stronger not stopping. Anyone had a similar situation?

From 16 weeks you should be under the maternity assessment unit as at the hospital, I was at good hope at least. Give them a call, they had me in at 17 weeks when I was freaking out

Must depend on areas, my midwife said i cant call maternity triage until I'm 20 weeks. Anything under is 111 or the gp midwifes. Honestly they are useless. I'm gonna give it the weekend and I'm still gonna call hospital if nothing by Monday. I'm just hopeing as others said its pretty normal and baby is tucked away in a place I can't feel. X

I suffer from anxiety myself and are on tablets for it. The midwife knows all about my mental health this is why it's shocking they don't seem to care. I'll be calling hospital Monday of still nothing even tho she told me they won't check me under 20 weeks x

@Jolayla what hospital are you booked at?
I suffered with awful anxiety in my last pregnancy that I had to be medicated for, your midwife sounds very cold and should show a little more compassion as to why you're so anxious.
I would just call the hospital regardless and see what they say ! If not, book a private scan and change midwife

Walsall manor west midlands, she is I havent took to her at all. Sorry you wasn't feeling great either. I only had a private gender scan a week ago and shorty after movements stopped. It's so had when you have mental health isn't is? This pregnancy has been so hard and I'm not even half way though. I'll definitely call hospital and ask for advice. X

@nirthernmoneky yeah I know, but abit of compassion wouldn't hurt would it. When you have suffered losses the anxiety is all consuming in subsequent pregnancies

Thing is I've got pregnant straight after my 2md misscarriage so im not fully over that loss either it's all just been so much for me. Pregnancy after miscarriages is so hard and mentally draining. X

Baby is still so small so will have just moved position most likely. This is why they say don’t take too much notice of movements until after 24 weeks as that’s when a pattern will form. I know it’s really hard not to worry I had a terrible time with my 1st with lack of movement x

LMM91x · 07/07/2023 17:45

Totally get the worry here :( I got pregnant straight after a MMC and you just don't get time to process which ultimately creates so much anxiety :( I echo what others say thoigh - there's so much room for the tiny baby that not feeling them is totally normal at that stage. I'm now 25 weeks and even now i'm not in any proper pattern or anything just thankful to feel them moving around more! Try to relax have a cold drink and a lie down , but honestly baby is probably going crazy in there and you feel nothing cos so tiny!!! ❤️

With my daughter my placenta was at the front and didn't feel anything till 21 weeks and was consistent from then. So with this pregnancy having so early in when they stop it's an instant worry especially after miscarriages im trying not to worry after hearing all your replys it has calmed me down a bit. But if still nothing by Monday I'll call hospital just for a piece of mind x

Aww sorry for your loss, ive had 2 since October. And it is certainly hard pregnancy after miscarriages the anxiety just doesn't go does it. I think just because we feel the movements early we don't expect them to go was hoping they would get stronger. But hearing from you all and realising that baby may have just moved has relaxed me a bit for now haha. I've drank a cold drink and hasn't worked so far ill try another in abit. I need a toilet break 😂 xx

No definitely not, West Midlands x

I'm 17 weeks also and also West Midlands.

I also feel hardly anything, just the occasional wiggle, but I'm not 100 % convinced that's the baby :/

It's such a hard time, isn't it :(

Your midwife sounds like a tw*t though, she should support you more.

No real advice I can give you, as I'm in the same position.

You can get reassurance scans at window to the womb for 49 pounds, I think

LMM91x · 07/07/2023 18:20

@Jolayla stay strong - i've definately felt better since my 20 week scan that this might actually all be ok ❤️ the worry and pressure of monitoring movements is something I hadn't really appreciated as a first timer though!!! xxxxxxx

Is this baby your 1st? It is a constant worry. But according to alot of my replys it's quite common for baby to go into another position where you can't feel. I'm hoping that's the case anyways. I hope we both start to feel more movements soon 😊 ive had 2 scans at window to the womb only one a week ago for a gender scan then the movements stoped staight after 😕 so ill have to wait till my 20 week scan now and yes she is a tw*t 😂 have not took to her at all x

Thank you. I think after the 20 week mark most people generally do feel more relaxed 😊 I know with my daughter it didn't faze me at all but now wow im a wreak lol. Stay strong too and wish you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy xx

When I was 20 weeks went for a scan and was admitted due to dehydration. I had the scan but by the night it took the nurse’s about 20 minutes to find heartbeat - you could see they were concerned had said they could get mobile scan up if needed . They did find heartbeat finally but this is why they don’t listen for it routinely. If they can’t find it will cause more anxiety .

Aww bless you. Are you and baby ok now? You must have been so scared. But yes I'd be terrorifed if they couldn't find a heartbeat early on. I'm gonna hold out for abit and hopefully like others said baby may have just moved to where I can't feel him xx

No, it's my 3rd. I already have an almost 3 year old boy and a 1 1/2 year old daughter.

It's funny, because I haven't felt the baby all day long - however, half an hour ago my son and daughter were playing with a ball. My daughter is very vocal and she did a high-pitched scream while playing.

All of a sudden I felt a massive baby movement. Reminded me of an electric eel and it felt like the baby tried to move upwards. But it was unmistakenably the baby and nothing else.

Not sure if that was just a coincidence or if they can already hear at 17 weeks?

Anyway, now the baby stopped moving again and has gone completely quiet.

Probably the posters are right on this thread that it's still too early to feel regular baby movements. Our babies are only the size of a turnip and can hide anywhere in there.

I'll hope you get your reassurance soon xx

Definitely sounds like a baby movement mine felt very sudden aswel. I belive they do start to hear about now so could be a high chance your daughters scream did it. I'll ask my daughter now to do the same lol 😂 thank you and you too hope you feel more movements soon roll on Christmas for our babies take care xx

I think it's really positive that you had a good scan last week, as pp said baby is probably in an awkward position.

It's not great that the midwife didn't offer more support based on your history and mental health. I once asked to change midwife because I didn't feel supported, perhaps that's an option for you.

Yeah was great to see my little boy wiggle about in the scan and I'm hoping as others said he has just moved im just a very paranoid person I worry alot. There are alot of useless midwifes nowadays unfortunately if she carrys on ill definitely be asking to change her. Thanks for advice xx
