Hiya everyone I'm new on here so bare with me lol . Basically I'm pregnant with baby number 5 I tried breastfeeding with my 2nd,3rd and fourth children ( I didn't try with my first ) and I failed it just didn't work out , after the experience I had with my fourth it's put me off trying this time but Is it bad of me because I've been called selfish for not even wanting to try.

Please don’t listen to this post OP, it’s absolutely ridiculous.

PP clearly has no consideration for the previous experiences women have, the situations are they are in, and the lack of support.

I support your decision 100% and will be doing the same with my second child, due to my previous experience. If I can, i’ll get some colostrum, but I even couldn’t produce enough of that last time.

Thank you , I guess there's always one person to be negative x

Not selfish at all.

I didn't want to but then felt pressured into it at the hospital. It didn't work out no matter how hard I tried. I ended up hugely mentally unwell with the stress.
Both me and baby miserable for first two weeks. Wish I had just listened to my gut and gone straight to bottles.

Do what's right for you, and if I had the chance for a re-do I'd make my decision before baby comes and stick to it. Otherwise you end up in the endless "if you just keep trying for three more days it'll start getting easier" loop of misery.

You do whats best for you, none of this stuff matters. Where I live it is very uncommon to breastfeed. Same among family and friends

What a load of disingenuous inaccurate codswallop.

@0MammaBear0

All medical scientific based research says otherwise but hey why let facts get in the way.

Emmamoo89 · 09/07/2023 15:54

Do what's best for you and your baba.

I breastfed my first. God it was hard work as he had tongue tie and was so painful. Got the point i didn't want to feed him i was in tears but thank fully got sorted pretty quickly and was a breeze after. And also pumped and that's hard work. Time consuming and just so tiring.

I'll be breastfeeding my second as imo I think that's whats best for my babies.

I suppose it is a bit selfish not to even do it for a short time, but we make decisions all the time in parenting that benefit us rather than our kids! Not point in doing it, if you'll absolutely loathe it.

OP do not listen to this. It's not selfish in anyway.

shakeitoffsis · 10/07/2023 16:40

@Honestlyy selfish? What an archaic response!

Iv had 2 kids, both induced at 37 weeks due to IUGR. Was asked if I'd like to breastfeed during both pregnancies as they were going to be so tiny and I simply said no it's not for me. There was never any convincing or bullying me into it. I was so grateful for that.

I simply never ever wanted to breastfeed and that's ok!

I don't know what "scientific facts" you're referring to, because all of what I've said is factual. Moreover recently they found many formula brands which contain toxic metals like lead and were under review. Maybe you're referring to the propaganda by the manufacturers who want to sell you their product for profit....yeah, when does that happen that corporations prioritise profit over other people's wellbeing...?

Your original post was deleted by mumsnet, so most of us don’t know what you’re referring to.

But you seem to be quite anti-formula, when the fact is that formula saves many babies’ lives, including mine.

Zimunya · 12/07/2023 12:20

Mine too.

Nothing selfish about not wanting to breast feed. My DC’s had formula from day one - my choice. No guilt - why would there be? It’s an amazing product. Healthy babies and happy parents.

Where was that then because I've never heard about it?! Formula and baby food ( that's a whole different argument) here in the uk are made to strict standards so I wouldn't be worried about it's safety tbh .
