(PIC BELOW)

I’m currently at work, been to the toilet for a number two and come to look down I see a bit of bright red blood on the tissue? (I checked to make sure it was definitely coming from my vagina and not my bottom)

baby is kicking and moving fine, I’m not cramping as it happened so I don’t know if it’s because my (poop) irritated my uterus?
my bump is tight, but I’m sure that’s normal too.
I’ve been in a number of times to the hospital for cramping/low back ache but they checked for premature labour and it was all fine.
seeing this was just not what I need!

You're really putting your baby and self and risk, you could massively regret not going in sooner

Could it be a cervical ectropion? Harmless but bleedy, very common in third trimester. And red blood is NOT always bad, despite what everyone seems to think - ectropion bleeds are red and can be very heavy. Great that you’re getting checked out though of course. Good luck!

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that red blood is always bad. The whole point is that you should NEVER assume it’s fine unless you’ve been told otherwise. What’s the point in asking OP if it could be cervical ectropion when she won’t know until she’s been seen, and she needs to be seen straight away? It could delay her getting the care she needs.

Posts like yours can be dangerous and lead to women not following actual medical advice. What if OP read your post and thought “oh yeah it’s probably that. I’ll wait until later”, and it was too late?

Wow, aggressive. For a start, I only posted that when op was already on her way to get checked - as you might have noticed, I said it was great that she was getting herself checked. I would certainly have advised it if she’d been sat at home wondering what to do.

Yes, I realise that she wouldn’t know it was an ectropion at that point. But it was clear she was reading the thread on her way to the hospital and I wanted to offer a (realistic) alternative that may have stopped her panicking while she was waiting to be seen.

I wasn’t actually having a go at anyone on this thread about red blood. It’s just that I’ve seen a LOT of comments on here along the lines of ‘If it’s not red blood you’ll be ok’ which is so wrong in so many ways. For a start, miscarriages can start with brown blood - mine did, earlier this year. And red blood can be harmless - when I had red bleeding a few weeks ago (I’m 10 weeks pregnant) I assumed I was losing the baby, partly because of Mumsnet posts. I worked myself up into a panic attack while having to wait three days for a scan at the EPU and then found out the baby was ok.

ALL bleeding should be checked out (I would NEVER suggest otherwise), I guess I just don’t want others to automatically assume the worse and make themselves super anxious while they’re waiting for an appointment or on the way to the hospital (as op was). I’ve been there, it’s hell.

I don’t think mine was a dangerous post at all and hope I’ve clarified things. I’m not getting involved in further debate/argument with you - pregnancy is stressful enough, and this is not my thread.

Firm, direct and to the point? Yes, because it’s an important topic. Aggressive? No, because I know you don’t mean any ill-intention.

Given you have just given a whole lot of context that explains your post, perhaps just reflect on how your previous post, in isolation, was not well-positioned.

Agree there’s no further debate to be had here.

OP, I hope you are doing ok.

grass321 · 03/07/2023 20:01

I had bleeding at that point and it was cervical abrasions. Hopefully you've been checked and all is well.

TTCJJB · 03/07/2023 20:02

OP, how did you get on?

As a reassurance I had a similar bleeding at 14 weeks after a BM. All ok.

Kiwiandstrawberries · 03/07/2023 20:05

Hope all ok OP .X

Little update! My phone had lost battery within 10 mins being in hospital.

But all is okay, I was monitored, baby girls heart beat was lovely, they did an internal check to see where the blood was coming from and to see if it was still coming from cervix which it wasn’t, they said I could have irritated it whilst passing the BM.
they checked for preterm labour which came back negative thankfully.
They were happy enough to send me home after a few hours, but been told to ring back and be checked if it happens again.
Thank you for all your responses!

Under certain circumstances I couldn’t get there earlier than I tried but I’m glad I went the time i did.

Glad everything was OK OP. Always better to be safe than sorry. Wishing you an uneventful last trimester x

Back with unexpected news…
I went back in last night at 7:30pm with more bleeding, they ended up diagnosing it as cervical ectropion but they wasn’t completely 100% of their decision on that, they then checked for the leaking waters and it did come back faint positive, as precaution asked me to stay over night for monitoring, as they class it as positive regardless how faint. Two lines is two lines.
now 10:45am next day and been told I may have to stay another night, got another scan as last night showed she was breach.
i have been on antibiotics since last night also with my first steroid injection and having another one later on in the evening today.
they want to take more swabs to monitor the water leakage, there’s me hoping it’s a false positive result as the tests aren’t very accurate only when negative.
😟

Ttcmumma · 05/07/2023 10:47

I lost 80% of my waters and their tests came back negative! They were convinced I had wet myself until they scanned me. So definitely go by the scans and not the tests. They tried to send me home and everything 🙄

Currently waiting for my second scan as we speak, then more swabs to follow 😩

So I’m on weekly monitoring, they were happy to send me home last night just about but going back Friday morning for my first observations, they have said to keep an eye on the discharge I’m getting presuming waters and to ring asap with any cramps i have from here on out to make sure it’s not the start of preterm labour, if she stays put we’re thinking of going to 37 weeks, only problem she’s breeched positive so if I was to go in to labour any time from now it’ll be an emergency c section if they can’t stop the contractions.. I’m very overwhelmed so trying to keep positive.. I’ve having to start my maternity leave also from Monday… 32 weeks today. 😟

OP posts:
CatsOnTheChair · 06/07/2023 18:11

If you dont want yo start maternity yet, can you get signed off as unfit for work right now? If baby stays put, that would be 4 weeks sick pay before maternity leave has to kick in.

I was contemplating that but the pay isn’t enough when on sick, me and my partner would struggle as unfortunately for us been hit with some unexpected bills, such bad timing! I have worked out with my work to allow me a week or two holiday next year before I return to help with sorting out 30 free hours for my girl when she turns three on the 12th April so I’ll be back to work 15th April, so it works out better this way, I just might lose a few extra weeks with bub at home..

OP posts:
CushionBlanket · 06/07/2023 18:20

Hope you're okay. It might be worth signing off sick for now though as the 30 free hours for childcare don't start until the term after LO turns three so that will be September if they are born in April.

Princesspeachee · 06/07/2023 18:32

You'd have to check with your company policy regarding sick. Some will automatically start your maternity if you are signed off for a pregnancy related reason

The company I’m with are pretty great when it comes to that, they would offer me to go on sick pay with a valid note off the doctors, and not start maternity, but as I’ve stated it’s not an ideal situation regards of sick pay wouldn’t be sufficient for what we need to pay out at the moment 😩. I’m okay with starting maternity now, a few weeks less with baby will be fine I’m sure we have childcare all sorted and holidays to take before I go back

OP posts:
Princesspeachee · 06/07/2023 20:16

@Xxshannyxx12
Yes if mat pay is better defo do that.
I had to go at 29 weeks with all of mine but made it work. You don't need any extra stress right now

Xxshannyxx12 · 10/07/2023 11:37

So I’m here again, just wondering if anyones been through this situation?
so I’m on weekly observation, I’m next in tomorrow morning for monitoring and blood tests.
Past couple of days my lower back has had a constant dull ache, sometimes it eases off but eventually does come back and stays, Especially near the end of the day it’s very uncomfortable even changing position doesn’t help it, it’s not exactly painful just uncomfortable, sometimes I feel it at the front like a very dull period pain, but nothing that’s alarming to me. My mum and sister have also mentioned to me this morning my bump has dropped massively. (Can this still happen with a breech baby?)
the midwives have said if I experience any cramps to let them know but I’m unsure what kind of feelings these are?
you’d think I’d know with it being my second baby but my labour happened quite quick with my first i didn’t experience any early labour.
and with this being a risk of preterm labour, as waters are leaking I’m not sure if I need
to let them know about this lower full back ache today, or just wait it out till tomorrow when I’m being monitored anyway.
it’s definitely not your typical sore aching back you expect in pregnancy I know that!

Hi, just seen this thread for the first time, I would 100% let them know today! I had a very similar experience to you and the consultant kept on asking me about back pain, it can signal things happening with your placenta I think but he was very keen to know if I ever felt it . Could be nothing, but definitely worth mentioning.

Even if it’s just dull aching? I’m contemplating massively, I know I shouldn’t but I think it’s because I know I’m being seen tomorrow I’m putting it off, and because I’m not in pain 😕

Yes. Contractions can be felt in the back.
