So I'm currently 4 weeks pregnant (just found out) but I've had few miscarriages and ectopic pregnancy. My anxiety is sky high as in worried that every pain and twinge is a start of a miss carriage. Can anyone give me advice to keep this pregnancy safe and not end up in a miscarriage 😔

can't give you advice to keep a pregnancy safe as i have lost 3 in total and got told i had secondary infertility for some unknown reason but but based upon my own experiences can't you see your gp to refer you too EPAU? Or have you ever been under a recurrent misscarriage clinic or on a waiting list from your local area?

Kappi · 12/06/2023 21:31

I just wanted to say, I think I can understand where you're coming from - not to diminish your own experience. Everyone's different, of course.

I've found out I'm pregnant again after 2 MMC.

Im not sure I'm in any position for advice as neither of mine went to full term. I just wanted to drop by and say you're not alone xx

Jenks27 · 12/06/2023 21:34

I am going to contact my local midwife tomorrow to let her know that I am pregnant again and see if I can get referred to the EPAU.

@Jenks27 sounds like a good idea to begin with! How many misscarriages have you had in total?

Jenks27 · 12/06/2023 21:38

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX I've had 4 miscarriages and 1 ectopic

OP posts:
MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/06/2023 21:45

@Jenks27 I'm surprised you haven't automatically been referred to a recurrent misscarriage clinic by your GP, as that's what mine did after my 3rd! But I suppose it depends on your area, ect where abouts in england do you live? I live north x

Jenks27 · 12/06/2023 21:47

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX I live in Wales - yeh I'm surprised as well that I haven't been referred

OP posts:
MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/06/2023 21:53

@Jenks27 you definitely need to contact your GP/midwife anyway, raise your concerns over previous history and hopefully they should refer you to an epau at the least, I don't see why they shouldn't tbf! sounds like you've had quite a journey to get to where you are now, and I 100% can relate with my own experiences to how you are you feeling!! Currently 5 weeks myself and going through all the same emotions and feelings of the unknown again but I'm trying to take it day by day, not letting my brain think too far ahead and just trying to appreciate the moment x

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/06/2023 21:57

All we can do is hope that it will all go ok 💕

Jenks27 · 12/06/2023 21:59

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX I'm hoping that they do refer me to the epau. I am trying to take it day by day but I'm just really anxious with every pain I'm getting 😫

@Jenks27 I 100% understand hun, its mentally draining if I'm honest and can consume you, I constantly check my knickers or the loo roll everytime I wipe! I think you should also say its having an affect on your mental health just so they are made aware of how you are feeling too. X

Emmamoo89 · 12/06/2023 22:08

Know exactly how you feel. I'm pregnant again after 3 losses and got my 12 week scan on Friday. X

Maxymoo1 · 12/06/2023 22:14

Hi @Jenks27, congratulations! I couldn't read and not comment, I've had 3 miscarriages, I have a 4 year old little boy and I'm almost 37 weeks now with baby boy number 2! I really know how you feel.

The only thing I would really encourage you to do is start supplements asap - I took Vitabiotics pregnancare from pre pregnant with my two boys and started them later with my other pregnancies. Who knows if it had anything to do with anything that happened, but I remember being shocked with my third miscarriage when I read a poster on the wall of EPAU about how in those very early developmental weeks, taking these can prevent problems like spinabifida and more which then can stop a pregnancy developing. I have no medical background whatsoever, this is only my own experience and if nothing else, it made me feel a bit better, that I was doing everything in my power.

Apart from that, try to remember that you aren't in control of the outcome and stay as positive as you can 💕

Emmamoo89 · 12/06/2023 22:14

So scared*

Red2017 · 13/06/2023 06:34

Are you able to contact the EPAU directly? If so request a reassurance scan and you can also request progesterone pessaries. I had 5 miscarriages prior to this pregnancy and took progesterone with this one. Whether that made the difference I dont know. I had tests and everything was fine, so no idea why I had those miscarriages.

Firsttimemumtobee · 15/06/2023 21:36

Hi @Jenks27 no advice sorry, but following your thread as I'm ttc after mc and chemical. Congratulations on your pregnancy ☺️

moosey89 · 15/06/2023 21:51

@Emmamoo89 good luck for your scan tomorrow - let us know how it goes x

@Emmamoo89 good luck for your scan tomorrow - let us know how it goes x

I should of updated. Went to hospital Tuesday night with bad cramps and everything is okay 🥰 we are so relieved! Thank you for thinking of me. Much appreciated. Will still update tho x

drumroll · 15/06/2023 23:16

I would definitely contact EPAU and ask to be seen. I have had 3 miscarriages and was told that when I next become pregnant they will prescribe me progesterone medication as soon as possible . Not entirely sure the reasons behind this ... but they said the earlier in pregnancy the better . I was also told I would receive more scans etc .

I really wish u all the luck and hope u have a safe and happy pregnancy x

Jenks27 · 16/06/2023 15:06

Thank you all for commenting. I contacted my midwife to let her know about the pregnancy and if she could refer me to the EPU but unfortunately they won't allow it as I don't have any issues with my pregnancy at the moment. (which is bullshi* ) considering I've had multiple miscarriages and ectopic. 😩

OP posts:
Firsttimemumtobee · 18/06/2023 09:15

Can you try contacting EPU yourself?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/06/2023 09:35

@Jenks27 just because time is of the essence, maybe you could see a private Dr and ask for a progesterone prescription. May also be worth ringing your GP, as some do prescribe after multiple miscarriages. I know some people take baby aspirin also after multiple miscarriages - may be worth discussing with your GP if that would be something you could do.

So sorry, this sounds so so stressful. I've only had one miscarriage and am incredibly nervous just from that.

Nelbert19 · 18/06/2023 09:52

Hi @Jenks27 - first of all, congratulations!

ive also had 4 miscarriages and am 4 weeks pregnant (also live in Wales!)

ive been on the waiting list for recurrent miscarriage clinic for almost 6 months but the waiting lists are long. We went to a private clinic and we’re due to start IVF next month, but found out I was pregnant last week!

my GP has agreed to prescribe progesterone (as recommended by the private clinic doctor) as soon as I let them know I’m pregnant. We’re actually away on holiday until Wednesday so I’m panicking I won’t get it in time 😖 I don’t think a GP can prescribe progesterone unless directed by an Obstetrician (either from EPAU or clinic).

the first trimester is SO stressful, particularly after multiple miscarriages. My second pregnancy did produce a gorgeous healthy baby boy, so it’s definitely possible even in those of us with many losses

i hope your pregnancy is healthy. Call your midwife back and ask if you should be considered for aspirin or progesterone due to recurrent miscarriages, as per NICE guidelines. If not, why not?

Jenks27 · 28/06/2023 18:15

Thought to give you all an update - been to have a private scan at window to the womb - I should be 6 weeks +1 today (28/06/23) but they couldn't see anything except a black circle which the sonographer was calling fluid? But it looked like the start of a gestational sac but there no yolk sac or anything. Finally been referred to the EPU so getting blood work done 😩 cross fingers everything is all good 🤞 and that it just implanted late

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 29/06/2023 09:02

@Jenks27 easier said than done, but try not worry too much or overtime, and don't go on Google! As I tortured myself for a week & this exactly what my first scan was like - all she could see was a 5mm gestational sac and nothing else!.. went back a week later & got to see a fetal pole, yolk sac & heartbeat 😁 so hopefully this is the same for you too hun!🤞
