Nanci
Or

Also opinions on the name it would be paired with Irene

It’s a cute little name. If you’re not keen on the “y” I’d go for Nancie.

sashastuck · 28/05/2023 18:15

Nancie :)

excelledyourself · 28/05/2023 18:17

This is top of my list of baby girl names right now, even though it's never happening for me again!

Definitely Nancie if not Nancy.

38andtrying · 28/05/2023 18:21

If you've any Irish background in Irish it's spelt Nainsí which I think is very pretty

ApolloandDaphne · 28/05/2023 18:24

Why mess with a perfectly good spelling of a very pretty name? It will be misspelled all her life and she will never find any product with her name on it. This is a THING for many young girls and having given DD1 a traditional Scottish name she hated me when her name was never on anything.

38andtrying · 28/05/2023 18:28

@ApolloandDaphne in Ireland traditional irish names are common, we wouldn't anglicise them, Scotland and Irish are basically same language so I guess a lot of similar names however I know they aren't as common in Scotland so i get it isn't a thing, in Ireland however i think if people can't spell or pronounce the names that's on them, its cultural and these names are Irish and children are reared to love their name and heritage and rightly so.

I don’t think it’s a problem these days getting personalised items.

You are absolutely right but I didn't get any feeling OP was going with a traditional spelling due to heritage; more that she just wanted it to be different to the usual spelling.

hedwigismyowl · 28/05/2023 18:34

Not from the internet maybe, but it is in 'tourist' shop where you can pick up a pen/ badge/ mug/ bookmark/ notebook with your name on.

My sister has a traditional biblical name and is everywhere, mine wasn't as it's uncommon. Even now, my dm buys me something of that ilk if she sees it with my name on.

Although I like my name, I thought it unfair, so named my dc with traditional names.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/05/2023 18:34

If you spell it Nanci now, how will she ever rebel when she's a teenager?

Kanaloa · 28/05/2023 18:36

I would reconsider the name rather than spell it incorrectly. I have a name that’s really unusual plus spelled wrong and it’s a pain in the bum. And if you like the name Nancy why spell it wrong? Like if you’re not keen on the name Nancy it seems daft to name your child that name but just spelled correctly.

38andtrying · 28/05/2023 18:55

@ApolloandDaphne you're right lol can I be terribly nosy and ask your daughters name ? I love traditional names and interested if it's one we use in Ireland or unique to Scotland ?

openstop · 28/05/2023 18:57

Sorry but unless it is the tradition of your homeland or where you live now just spell it the way most people would. Otherwise people are just going to spell it wrong.

Spottypineapple · 28/05/2023 18:58

I doubt the OP will find a 'Nancy' bookmark/water bottle/magnet in a tourist shop either....what a weird argument. 90% of names won't be featured on a fixture that can hold about 50 different named things. So I don't think this is a reason not to call your kid a particular name....

I recently found a 'they didn't have my name' which I thought was funny and got for DD.

No the point of the thread sorry

OP I'd choose Nancie at a push....but........it's Nancy

Sorry I'm not going to post her name. She is an adult and i wouldn't do that without her consent. I often post about where I live and it would be immensely outing if anyone put two and two together.

38andtrying · 28/05/2023 19:01

@ApolloandDaphne no problem, totally understand, is it very unique? Like is she the only person in your area with the name?

Treasureboxkey · 28/05/2023 19:01

As an adult with an 'unusual' spelling of my given name I would urge you to use a proper spelling.
I feel a right dick whenever I have to spell my name out.

No it's not unique at all. Fairly common in Scotland.

BettyButtercup · 28/05/2023 19:06

We've got a Nansi which is the Welsh version

EggInANest · 28/05/2023 19:08

Nancy is a great name!

Nancie if you really must.

Marylou62 · 28/05/2023 19:29

As someone with a very unusual name which I have to spell every time I would never name a child something that isn't straight forward..
A friend told me she was going to call her DD Alyce.. beautiful name I said but you know she's going to be 'Alyce with a y'..every time someone asks her name you'll be saying 'Alyce with a y'...

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 28/05/2023 19:46

Definitely not Nanci.

I don't think that pairings with middle names really matters (I'm assuming Irene would be a middle name?) as they are hardly ever said together.

Muncha · 28/05/2023 20:20

Nancy is lovely. Nancie isn't.

Ttcmumma · 28/05/2023 20:48

I have a very common name can find my name in any gift shop and surprisingly still have to spell it for people often... Lauren. And I HATE that I have the same name as so many other people. Would much rather have had a more unique name so I guess each to their own.

With the options you like I prefer Nancie, Nanci is cute but feels incomplete 😊

SpringNotSprung · 28/05/2023 20:57

Just spell it properly - Nancy.

All the Debras, Jaynes, Tracies, Barbras, etc, have questioned their mother's wisdom for years. The Millies, Evie- Maes, Esmees, etc, will soon.
