DD was 2.2 when I had ds. Now almost a year later we still use our double buggy although much less in the last few months. I would be happy with just a buggy board now (just turned 3) but for us it would have been difficult any earlier. Having said that several of my friends don't use double buggys as they drive everywhere. Depends how much you walk I suppose.

JudgeJudyAndExecutioner · 18/02/2008 20:47

I use both but then I have a 3 yr old a 2 yr old a 1 yr old and one due in July!

Am I crazy? ......excuse me while I go and howl at the moon

sweetkitty · 18/02/2008 20:50

judgejudy but what fun your house will be

I will have 4yo DD1, 2.6yo DD2 and newborn and have been wondering the same thing, at the moment I'm trying to convince DP we should get a Phil and Teds as it goes from single to double. Baby can go in the back DD2 in the front for a few months then baby in the front and DD2 has a little seat at the back if she needs it.

JudgeJudyAndExecutioner · 18/02/2008 20:53

They are all boys too, I think it is fair to say that the Judge is completely outnumbered and resigned herself to never having the toilet seat left down.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/02/2008 20:54

Dd will be 2.8 when dc2 is born, and I plan on just keeping a single, and putting baby in a sling/carrier initially, and then deciding whether to get a buggy board or not. Certainly have no intention of getting a double buggy.

micegg · 18/02/2008 21:01

DD will be 2.6 when DC is born. I have bought a Phil and Teds double buggy as DD has a tendancy to run off so I like the idea of having something I can strap her into. I will probably also get a buggie board once the youngest is old enough for the stroller.

A · 18/02/2008 21:02

We bought a double buggy (fortunately second hand) when ds2 arrived (ds1 was 1.8), and only used it twice as ds1 was so disruptive in it! As I walked everywhere, I ended up using a front carrier + buggy, then back carrier + buggy.

sweetkitty · 18/02/2008 21:06

One of the reasons I want a P&T is that there is no way I could keep both DDs under control out on my own. DD1 will only be 4 so still a handful when out and about and DD2 is wild so theres no way she will walk nicely beside a pram.

pedilia · 18/02/2008 21:08

DD will be 1 1/2 when DC4 arrives in June, I have bought a new single buggy( my pilko pramette is wrecked) I will use the sling and then hopefully DD will be walking properly by then
She walks but goes off doing her own thing or just stands staring at things, luckily for me neither the school/nursery/shops are more than a five minute walk away

pedilia · 18/02/2008 21:09

ETA she loves the buggy board but tends to sit on it rather than stand

Pheebe · 18/02/2008 21:10

We went for the P&Ts too mainly because you can get a carrycot insert for it and it goes completely flat

Mercy · 18/02/2008 21:11

My dd was 2.9 when ds was born. I didn't bother with a buggy board or a double.

Are you planning or having to walk very far?

gigglewitch · 18/02/2008 21:13

I found double / tandem pram much more successful (and less stress) than buggy board. We had 2.11 gap then 2.3yrs, used pram for over a year each time. In fact still occasionally dd age 2 and DS2 age 4 still get a ride in the tandem buggy if i'm in a hurry!

PrettyCandles · 18/02/2008 21:16

Ds1 was 2y3m when dd was born. He wasn't a good walker (he walked perfectly well, just couldn't walk at adult walking speed and got knackered very quickly) but was also easy-going and relatively well-behaved. The buggyboard was perfect for us. Until I felt confident of his behaviour on the buggy board I kept him in reins.

gigglewitch · 18/02/2008 21:16

BTW has anyone mentioned that you may need Mt Tickle arms and big shin-pads if you plan to have a buggy board

JingleyJen · 18/02/2008 21:19

we have a lascal 3G buggyboard and it has been fantastic, we use it on the M&P MPX Chassis that has slightly longer handle than average. but I feel like I am walking very strangely with DS1 on the back but less strangely than if I were having to carry him!

FourPlusOne · 18/02/2008 21:19

Sweetkitty - mine will all be roughly that age (tiny bit younger) - can't decide what to get. Have heard good and bad about p&t, so may go for double. Definitely don't want 2 on foot - can't run in 2 directions at once! DC2 will be old enough to walk but won't have the same stamina that DC1 had when younger.
Used sling lots when DC2 was a baby with DC1 in buggy. Does anyone do 1 in buggy, 1 on foot and 1 in sling when all are little? Am worried about darting off after a toddler whilst wearing a sling and not being able to go quickly enough! Like to walk a lot so am going to have to consider all options.

Bigboydidit - if your LO likes walking then maybe a buggy board would be enough. You could always keep a sling in the basket for if your DS gets really tired and wants to sit down.

sweetkitty · 18/02/2008 21:23

4+1 - I was thinking one in sling, one walking and one in buggy might be too much. Don't really fancy an out and out double again because I don't think I will get that much use out of it and I need to get a new single anyway, I'm thinking when DD2 is 3yo and baby is 6m, P&T would be good if I need to contain DD2 for a bit although chances are DD1 would want in the pram and DD2 will walk! I also thought about the Mutsy Urban Rider with Duo seat but got put off it by MNers.

Nemoandthefishes · 18/02/2008 21:24

Depends on child and how much you walk.
Ds was 2.2yrs when dd1 was born and we got a second hand marco sky which we used for about 4mths then I found out I was pg with dd2 so started making ds walk to get him used to it. DD1 is 2.2yrs now and will happily walk for miles but at a rather slow pace. So if I am not in a rush she walks but for school run I take the phil and teds as it is 15[adult]25[toddler/child]min either way walk. I have used a buggy board for the walk to but I am not a fan and dd1 would rather hope on and off it than just stand still.

gigglewitch · 18/02/2008 21:24

4+1 sounds like a shopping trolley with babyseat would suit you nicely

sorry ssorry

Nemoandthefishes · 18/02/2008 21:25

Meant to say also agree with gigglewitch about the bruises etc..I hate the buggy board and have barely used it. However it is one fo those stupid step ones.

lilyfire · 18/02/2008 21:27

DS was 2.10 when DS2 born. We got a Phil and Teds, because we walk quite a lot (we had a dog) and DS was rubbish when decided he was tired and would have been outraged at being chucked out of his pusher by new baby. It was great to be able to strap them both in while going round shops and to be able to get into the shops and round with the pram. We didn't need it for that long, as DS really stopped using it after about a year or so (v lazy child when unmotivated), but it was really useful during that time. I justified the expense as I sneakily hoped we'd have another one and am expecting no 3 in 3 weeks, so it should come into its own again. Also I think they hold their value quite well, so you can always reassure yourself (DP) that you'll get most of money back when you sell.

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 11:56

That is exactly my justification - P&T's hold their value so we can resell it afterwards. TBH wish I had got one when DD2 was born but DP talked me out of it.

PotPourri · 19/02/2008 14:21

I think buggy board. They are much smaller and lighter. and if you 'sel' it properly to the older child they will love it. DD1 didn't like the double buggy after she was 2.

spugs · 19/02/2008 16:51

dd2 will be 1.11 when dd3 comes along and ive gone for a single a board and reins. shes a good walker and is good most of the time about holding hands etc apart from in the park when she likes to do her own thing.
