Hi I was out for dinner with friends and they ordered the chateaubriand and it was medium rare and it was definitely rare in the middle I had eaten two bits and then I remembered! Now I am freaking out. Apparently you won't even l know if you have it. Anyone else been here? Shall I go for a blood test?

What is it?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 13/05/2023 14:01

No, what you do is sit down with a cup of tea and a biscuit and stop panicking over a non event.

MrsMiagi · 13/05/2023 14:04

Its fine. You'd known if you got ill. Relax

Jk987 · 13/05/2023 14:04

What's the risk? What can you catch that you need a blood test for?

I thought the only reason you're advised to avoid unpasteurised food and shellfish etc is the risk of an upset stomach. If you haven't been sick or had diarrhoea then you don't need to worry.

Don't take that as red though, check on the NHS website if unsure.

LysHastighed · 13/05/2023 14:05

You’ll be fine but you could ask the restaurant if the beef is frozen at any point. That takes you from tint tiny tiny risk to zero risk

Apparently you could get toxoplasmosis which can cause Miscarriages that's why I'm worrying. And apparently you don't even know most the time you have it.

This

HarrietJet · 13/05/2023 14:20

It's a risk from undercooked lamb or pork, op. Not beef.

Skinnermarink · 13/05/2023 14:22

I’d panic if my beef WASN’T medium rare, pregnant or not.

😂😂 usually that is me but I've miscarried before twice so obviously I'm heightened worried x

Fudgewomble · 13/05/2023 14:26

And OP I’ve had 6 miscarriages so I do appreciate the fear.

custardbear · 13/05/2023 14:45

You'll be fine! I also worried a lot on pregnancy, same reasons, I got caught out by Ice cream and a bag of lettuce leaves ... my two kids are fine though as I panicked but nothing happened ... it's just lessening the risk of you avoid

That's pretty harsh. Cheers.

PickledScrump · 13/05/2023 16:54

@ConfusedMumma87 wasnt intended to be harsh at all. High anxiety can be markers for needing extra support in pregnancy and after birth. The earlier you can get help and speak to someone the less chance you have of your anxiety spiralling out of control. Mental health concerns can become really dangerous in pregnancy and beyond, far more risk than a bit of beef.

Emmamoo89 · 13/05/2023 16:57

It'll be fine. Don't worry 😊 x

HarrietJet · 13/05/2023 16:58

This isn't an example of an emerging mental health concern, @PickledScrump

KezzaMucklowe · 13/05/2023 16:59

I'm really sorry to hear about your losses.
Of course you will be extra precautious.
Try not to worry though, as pp have said it will be absolutely fine.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 13/05/2023 17:00

I wouldn't say she's having high anxiety she's literally just responding to the over the top NHS guidelines about rare meat.
Op, in Japan they still eat raw fish when pregnant. Our guidelines are hysterically over the top and put the fear of God into women unnecessarily.

Cherryblossoms85 · 13/05/2023 17:00

Ah I remember the fear. I didn't know I was pregnant and made myself a bleeding rare steak with half a bottle of wine and my 9 year old is top of his class. Don't worry.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/05/2023 17:01

If you have what?

Chill. Entire nations in chow down on rare beef through pregnancy.

Beekdet · 13/05/2023 17:05

Being so unbothered that you didn't even think about it until you'd already eaten doesn't sound remotely like the same person who has generally heightened worries around this based on past experience and would get this worked up.
